I checked yesterday following your email, and had people checking for me while I was at work. None of us were able to duplicate the problem. How do you connect to the internet? Slow connection maybe? The only other thing that makes sense is some sort of browser issue. But, without knowing what browser you're using, I couldn't even begin to make a good guess.

It could be that there was an unexpected spike in traffic. When this occurs, have you tried to navigate to other parts of the archive to see if you get the same error? The other likely possibility, depending upon time, is that I'm running a database utility and it's running through those tables at that particular moment. How long does this last when it happens?

Something else to keep in mind is we have authors who MST others, which is fine. Now, in those for instances, should the author being MST'd have a problem with the story, then I would be obligated to remove it, yes. But most of the time, the authors have great senses of humor, so I've yet to encounter that as in issue.

Well, you may have been inspired by the other fic, but, as long as you're not using any part of it, or referencing it (other than maybe saying that this gave you an idea or something like that), I don't see a problem. Where the problems come in, is when people state that it's not just inspired by xx story, but is using xx stories characters, writing an alternate scene, etc. THOSE need permission.

Okay, that one I do remember. You were underage at the time of posting the stories. So, because the content was posted prior to then, it had to be deleted.

First of all, before I can even TELL you why it would've been deleted, I'd need to know your pen name. Second, if it was deleted a few years ago (before August 2008) none of us would've been the ones to have done so. Third, once records are removed from the database, they're permanently deleted.

You're sure this was in originals and not maybe an AU AnK story? You wouldn't happen to remember any part of the author's pen name, would you?

The point here, is that the user was under age when the account was created. That means that she got deleted even though she had turned 18 before we found her. THAT doesn't matter. What matters is the age she was at time of registration. Thing is, this is clearly stated everywhere. There's a splash page which says you must be 18 or older, there's a page where you have to fill out your birthday information, there are even the RTA (Restricted To Adult) labels, both visible and in the meta information throughout the archive. It's not like it hasn't been made ABUNDANTLY clear any where you want to look, that this site is restricted to users 18 and older. Sure, she can repost now that she's old enough. That's perfectly fine. The point YOU seem to be missing, is the age issue to begin with. She knowingly used the site as an underager. There are consequences to that. There always have been. Have a question, how is it that deletion is being confused with a ban? It's not the same thing.

Well, what I do to confirm the obvious dupes is search the db by email. Often, because the archive doesn't send a confirmation mail, people will think they weren't registered, and then REregister. Now, when they reregister with identical information, that actually causes them problems in trying to login and use the archive. I generally hear about those right away and from the users themselves. In any case, as it's not the pen name itself that's unique, this is why you see many with an identical pen name.
