You can always go with the American thing and do a turkey. Or an old hand passing down an object (a candle? a torch?) to a smaller, younger hand, thus symbolizing the keeping alive of the tradition.

  12. As far as I know, the links in profile were not meant to be clickable, but only text. I can check on that though.
  13. There are over 400 Supernatural fanfics. You can find them here. Since you've been away for a very long time, there've been many, many changes to the overall structure, and that's an ongoing thing. Good luck in finding a co-writer!
  14. How you do that, is in the field, input - See Full disclaimer below Then, for each chapter, you have your disclaimer as the first part of the story, and as you need to add names, you do. Now, if the reason is just to make a verbose disclaimer which simply won't fit in to the field, input - See full disclaimer below, Chapter 1. As long as there are no changes to people involved and what not, it only needs to appear in the one chapter. Technically, that part really only applies to standard fanfiction, as with real person based fiction with many people, your disclaimer and it's needs are going to be very fluid, depending on if you're adding more to your story or not. Which is why you'd simply copy/paste from your first chapter, insert it to the next chapter and make additions as needed. We even had one author who was adding/deleting people as she went. So, what she did, was put the disclaimer at the end of her last chapter, and used the field to tell us that's where it was. A bit unusual for placement, but certainly workable.
  15. Actually your original image size was okay. A slight variance above or below won't make for ginormous images in the sig. Your edited image size is okay as well. For example, if you look at my sig, the image is short in height, but actually a bit long. But, it doesn't overwhelm the signature area. As we've both said, if you use common sense in constructing your siggy, it shouldn't be a problem. If it's too big, trust me, I or someone else will let you know.
  16. I'll tell ya. This just points even more strongly as to why the beta should be picky, and set ground rules from the start. It also points to the fact that I was LUCKY in the authors who chose to work with me. I was upfront and honest with what I could do and was willing to do as a beta reader, they returned the favor in telling me what they needed from a beta in the first place. Knowing to say no to a prospective writer who's expectations of a beta reader is helpful as well. Just as it is helpful on the OTHER side, where the author knows to say no when the beta oversteps his or her bounds. A trial phase as pittwitch mentioned is helpful as well. Think about it. An author may not like your style in how you beta, and you may not like what you find with an author that you are beta reading for. What a test chapter does, is let the beta and the writer find out if they're going to be able to work together. In order for you to have a successful working relationship with each other, it's best you find this out right away.
  17. A good rule of thumb, no more than 3 images. You can link your images to something (like a WIP). Try and keep the images no bigger than 300x300, so that it's not overly large and ends up making your siggy bigger than your posts.
  18. The current variants are: System Lock 2011 Security Inspector 2010 Security Essentials 2011 ThinkSmart Ms-antivirus.net That's just to name a few. These are all what are called "malvertising", which tend to be loaded with trojans and browser hijackers.
  19. The archive shows you as active at 5:13 pm today. When you're in the archive, select the drop down menu "Member Tools". If you see an option for "Author Panel", you're logged in. If you don't, and see options for "Register" or "Login", then click the login link and log in to the archive. Once you make sure you're logged in, then you need to navigate to the part of the archive where you wish to have your work added to. The default in the archive, is to go to the anime subdomain. If your story does not belong there, simply use the drop down menus above the category and story listings, or the jump menu in your profile and/or user panel to navigate to the subdomain where you want to publish to.
  20. Check your browser settings to make sure you didn't accidentally magnify the page.
  21. The author contacted US. Minimal research on this end, honestly. As you can see, this one is very old, from 4 years ago.
  22. Well, it's a day late, but happy birthday!

  23. That's why I have CDs....loads and loads and loads of them. Sure, I can load up a playlist, but, if I have something specific I'm up to, I'll pop in a CD and get busy.
  24. Once again, we have someone who thought it'd be CUTE to not only steal someone's story, but try to steal their writing identity. The author's actual profile (on Live Journal) note that this account was created in 2004 The fake profile Mind you, the user only added the ONE story, and only logged in to add that ONE story. Whereas the real author has quite a bit of work published at different sites. Original story Story was posted ten months before the stolen copy was posted here. Stolen story Notice that it's word for word? Of course, the publication date speaks for itself, yes? I don't get it. Do you? Why is it that people think this is okay to do? It's NOT okay. This user is never welcome back to this site.
