The 2009 version. was actually less stupid-weird but perhaps a bit more creepy, though it still was heavy on the jarring aspects at times (especially at first, IIRC). The battle of wills between Ian McKellen and Jim Caviezel played out great throughout. Best of all, while still bizarre, it had a satisfying conclusion that actually made sense (in the realm of the show). I actually liked it a lot.
…but then again I also really liked Rubicon and Perception, so take any of my TV recommendations with a grain of salt. Also it's probably not great as fanfic source material because all the balloon fetishists will complain if you don't do enough with Rover.
