The 5 Most Baffling Sex Scenes in Fanfiction
DemonGoddess replied to Helluin's topic in News/Current Events
trekqueen, you have to use her name JoanDoe instead of JayDee, otherwise it won't let ya. I thought the writer of the blog was a wee bit full of herself, even tho I did find it amusing. -
no prob. Could you be sure to leave the flames up in your review board for now? I took a quick peek and saw what you mean, but I gotta get a nap before work, so me or someone will get to this hopefully before I go in tonight.

Suggestion to Demongoddess regarding story status's

As most of you are aware, the current software does not support this function. However, it IS something we're looking to do with the new stuff. -

Also look for a temporary save file, if you have the autosave option turned on. If so, Word will autosave whatever you're working on. the extension to look for is .tmp

Gotta say, I agree wholeheartedly with Keith about the summaries. That certainly is a factor for me even clicking a story link. If the story describes via its tags something I'm not interested in, I DON'T read it. It can and should be that simple. As a reader, I rarely review. When I do it's not much of one other than I liked what I read, and generally pointing out something I particularly liked about a chapter or something. As a mod, however, people may in fact see a review from me, or any other mod, pointing out something that needs correction. That's different than reading the story, and has not a damn thing to do with it. Having said that, I can also say that AS A MOD, if I find I cannot be objective and impartial in a particular for instance, I defer it to someone else. It's the only way to do it, really. So, for example, with some objections I've seen raised with Kip's story (and there really haven't been that many) because it's subject matter I find I cannot be objective about, inquiries have been sent to other mods to handle.

Actually, the admin validation queue is gone through at a minimum once a day. If it's a work day for me. On my off days, I go through that queue several times a day. There are a number of criteria before a forum membership is passed. One is a valid link to the archive user for the forum registratrant, if I can't find one, that forum registration will be denied. Second is valid emails. Third, and most important, is age. Just as in the fiction portal, I do not approve forum members under the age of 18. Wish we could that in the portal too, but we cannot at the moment. It certainly would make things easier on that end. I'm working on the blocked thing, that's an att/sbc server problem, so we have to get that unblocked again.

As I said before, I PERSONALLY don't like the story nor the concept. What I like or dislike has no bearing on what I am or am not allowed to delete. Yes, if it were solely up to me, I'd make it go away. But it's not, so I can't. Here's the other thing, I find I cannot in any way, shape, or form be objective about this story, nor the story content. As a mod, when that happens, the mod has to step away. I'd just like to point out that when I first posted on this topic in June? At that point, I had nothing at ALL to do with archive moderation. Just the forum, and cleaning up the corrupted data in the archive.

okay, first of all, when a fanfiction has been deleted with similar objections, there have been other reasons that make that deletion happen. Not the age of the character, but the overall content. For example, the last few that I personally know about, the author was actually a troll. You've all seen troll fics, I'm sure. Below is an example of what I'm talking about, and what was the kind of thing deleted from the fanfiction sections.

There are consequences to having a non disclaimed or improperly disclaimed story. When an improperly disclaimed fiction is found, the Admin will post a REVIEW stating the disclaimer is in violation, and what needs to be corrected. The user will have one week from the Review date to properly disclaim their work. After one week, if the fiction is still in violation, it will be HIDDEN. After a story is hidden, the user will have 30 days from the date the story is hidden, to properly disclaim the work and contact the Admin, requesting the fiction be returned to public view. If after 30 days, the fiction is still in violation, or the user has not contacted the Admin, it will be DELETED. Finally, yes, WE ALL DO realize that fanfiction by its NATURE is not for profit. However, if it's not stated, it's still not a proper disclaimer. So, whether some of you think it's obvious or not, it still MUST be stated. A blanket disclaimer in the user profile is not acceptable, it HAS to be attached to the story.
