Because there are more than a couple people doing this, it's easier if we just make it so we approach each disclaimer in the same manner, regardless of subdomain and fandom. So, if you read the FAQ for disclaimers, it's really quite clear as to what needs to be in any given disclaimer, as to the core of the disclaimer. That is, in fact, what we all look for.

Review Bombed AGAIN
DemonGoddess replied to Harley Quinn hyenaholic's topic in Trolls/Flamers/Spammers
with the age of the archive software, I'm rather limited in how exactly I can track these kinds of people, unlike the forum software which affords me much better options. However, I have something in mind which will hopefully stop most of this. -
The avatar upload thing is being reworked. If I'm remembering the conversation correctly, the users will be linking to them offsite, rather than uploading them. Alternatively, I SHOULD be able to sort the avatars into subdirectories for the fandoms, and make an avatar gallery of some sort, like what we can do with the forum. Dunno for sure, we'll have to look in to that.

scheduled for tomorrow I think (provided time works out for it anyway) Two, actually. One is to bring the board current, the other is a fix for the guest posting to hopefully avoid the spam we've been getting lately. An enhancement to it. Before I do the version upgrade though, I will be making sure that any modifications in place, are not affected. That will affect how long the version upgrade will take. To combat the spam, I'll putting all guest forums on posting moderation. What this means, is that when you post, the topic won't automatically appear, it'll have to be approved. A pain for all of you who are supposed to be able to use the forum, but it'll kill the spam. So, don't freak if the post or topic doesn't appear immediately, there will be someone going through all the queues fairly regularly, several times a day. Also, Invisionboard has announced that 3.0 is going to be ready for beta turn of the year. So, I'll be putting up a test forum to have a look at what it's got, and then prepping the forum for the full release after beta is over. There are significant changes in code, which means that the modifications may or may not carry over properly. So, until the mod developers catch up to it, we may have to do without some of the toys at first. But, that is a few months away at least, so not a problem at the moment.

The problem is the archive code you know. BECAUSE it's so old, it doesn't allow for certain things. We are trying to port something in to help track these cretins, but again, due to the script's age, it's not playing very nice yet. If we can get that ported in without it causing problems everywhere else, it'll be a relatively simple fix in the future.

Crapload of review bombs
DemonGoddess replied to Harley Quinn hyenaholic's topic in Trolls/Flamers/Spammers
on my way to kill the reviews -
here's the thing. If you get something like that in your story, and it's not someone you also see here in the forum as a listed mod, then they are not a moderator. If that happens to you, PLEASE let me know, as they would obviously be misrepresenting themselves in an effort to cause you or another member problems.

yep, will do

What you have are a bunch of politicians blowing hot air like they always have done. As far as the mainstream news goes, they haven't done REAL reporting on this crap for quite a few years now if you think about it. Brings to mind past history and yellow journalism, ya know? What's really sad, is when all this started, I found myself surfing for news reports from outside the country, because I kinda figured we weren't being given anything but what ever it was they wanted us to hear. What made me angry then, and still does, is that it turned out I got more accurate news from outside of the country, then from our normal news sources.

Let's hope 3rd time's the charm... Needless to say, I've deleted this one again
-
All I can do is what I just did, which was to search all the review tables for the both the anonymous and logged in reviews from this person, and delete them.
-
was a spammer actually. This person did this both anonymously and logged in. All reviews from the user have been deleted so far as I know.

review board spammer in anime
DemonGoddess replied to DemonGoddess's topic in Review boards/AN Chapters/Excessive AN fixed
the spammer targeted primarily the anime, buffy, and inu sub directories, and only a part of the hp subdirectory. Deleted all 2000+ reviews. -
So you are aware, there are only a few of us, and literally hundreds of stories we look at each and every day. So, why would you insist we make a task that is time consuming to begin with, more so? You, and everyone else, will continue to get the reviews if there's a problem. You're certainly not being singled out. Using the reviews is the quickest and most efficient way we currently have to do this.
-
Well, we have our anonymous spammer who likes to leave very large reviews of nothing to stories back in action. If any of you are experiencing problems with your review boards (won't load) because of this, please click this topic link, and reply to it with a link to your story. I'll get them cleaned up.
-
The story is hidden until you correct your disclaimer. I know that you were reviewed to tell you what was wrong with it. You might want to read the FAQ here in forum about disclaimers as well.

This has probably been answered elsewhere....
DemonGoddess replied to NutsAboutHarry's topic in Harry Potter
You contact me. Also, if you notice, the story is still accessible in your user panel. Just not open for view. -
mod list That shows most everybody. Thing is, with the forum, there's no way to for me to make a separate listing just to show the archive mods, or it'd be there too. Most of the listed forum moderators actually are not forum mods at all, but archive mods. Only a few of them do both. Thing is, there used to be a time where the stuff the archive mods did was set up and handled through a yahoo group. We've discontinued that, and everyone now is here in forum. If they're not registered in the forum, you can bet they're NOT archive mods at all.
-
I'll do what I can for you, as I'm sure any other mod would here. Maybe if the mail comes from another site's moderator(s) and/or admin, as WELL as the affected user, it'll make them pay more attention to your mail. It's worth a try, at any rate.
-
Actually Ez if you look underneath your forum profile it still states cleanup crew (which you're still part of), and if you look in the board listing for moderators, you are listed with the other archive mods as well. No, we don't currently have a way to make an auto-adjustment to a moderator to make them known in the archive, as that was never a part of the software. However, all the current mods have had no issue with being open about their moderator status. In fact, they're ENCOURAGED to be open about it. After all, it's easier to contact someone if you know who to contact, rather than having mods who make ghost memberships, and hide who they are. If I'm finding I have to make one of those reviews, I WANT people to be able to get in touch with me if they need to. For that matter, I encourage the same for other things as well, such as tech support for either application. Going back to the original question, yes, there has already been discussion on how to denote the users who are also moderators in the archive, so that users can see that as a glance. For that matter, should a user question whether or not someone who's saying something to them is in fact a mod, all they have to do is ask me, or any other of the listed archive mods. Who was the author asking for help? If they misplaced a story, that's a simple fix for the most part as well. If it's in the same subdomain, they edit the story properties. If it's not, delete it and add it to the right subdomain.
-
it's actually a simple fix, and I'll get to it after some sleep before I go to work tonight. What happens sometimes, is that a user, when registerising will refresh their registration page and accidentally create a second login. This means the details are identical, so the db will stop on the first one it finds, which would be the newest one. What I'll do is search the db directly, and delete the duplicate after verifying which one has the story data attached.
