A rare outbreak of good taste amongst the writers?

The question I couldn't see where else to put it...
JayDee replied to JayDee's topic in General Staff Questions
Thank you for answering this. Yes, I'd certainly credit it properly (with the URL to the picture in the artist's gallery, where allowed). I just hadve this nagging feeling that it feels like using an idea without permission - the artist wouldn't have created the picture without the commissioner commissioning it, so it's kind of like the commissioner's idea (even if he didn't originate the idea of the game character in that kind of situation, he did put it forward to the specific picture that originated the story) I'd be using without permission, rather than the artist's. This was probably just a case of me worrying over nothing -
It's basically reduced to just me shouting abuse at emptyness, and I get my fill of that at on the hilltops at home!

Ahh, that's very kind of you. I have nothing else to add then, sorry!

While I kinda like the idea that there's a secret forum that makes people see posts and maybe go "OOh! I wanna be there!", the AFF Reviewers Association thread now probably fulfills that, so a "lock all the threads and move 'em to the ancient ass end of aimless babble" policy probably wouldn't go amiss.

The question I couldn't see where else to put it...

'cos I really don't see this as being something that needs a FAQ, and that was the closest! So my understanding of disclaiming is that if we do something based on a video game, we'd disclaim ownership/profit making etc of said game as usual, and the same if the story was inspired directly by a particular still image taken in-game, or released as official art by the game's producers/designers/PR/whathaveyou. It is also my understanding that if we have a story idea inspired by a piece of fanfiction, say with a particular offshoot storyline, we'd need to disclaim the original fandom as usual, as well as the inspirational fanfiction, and also get the full prior permission of the fanfiction writer (basically a step further than we take the process for the original game, where we don't ask the game producers before publishing the story, we just cross our fingers and hope they don't notice.) So I figure it's much the same with a piece of fan art as with fan fiction. Ages ago I did a story based on a piece of fan art and, at the artists request, wrote a story on it where I credit 'em for the picture at the start. Just recently I saw another piece of fan art capturing such a perfect moment in time that it inspired a story of how the moment came apart, the moment, and the aftermath. So I spoke (well, emailed) to the artist who is fine with me doing a story, seemed impressed with how the rough draft looks (the word 'Excellent' was used ), but has firmly pointed out the artwork was commissioned by someone else. The artist spoke to the commissioner who likes the idea of a story based on the picture in concept, so I emailed them for their permission a while back and didn't get a reply. (There's a slight possibility they were thoroughly appalled by some of my more extreme stories, unrelated to the fan art inspired story... ) What all this is building to is, when basing a story on commissioned fan art, while it would obviously be necessary and ethical to credit the artist for the picture, and the commissioner for commissioning it and so originating the idea - though the scene composition/anatomy is probably more the artist's area of responsibility - , is it also necessary to get a commissioner's permission to post a story, or is this (and any similar) likely to have to remain unpublished? I figure the answer is likely yes, and that there's even a good ethical reason I can respect for why, but I can't think of it. S'a good piece of fan art though. ...does this even make sense? You can probably tell why I thought this didn't belong in a normal support forum request. NOBODY would ever ask it, and there's no Unfrequently Asked Questions request board. -
If you don't mind PWP, This one of mine proved quite popular for used and abused. [/blowing own trumpet]

I cannot think of the phrase with which to express my gratitude.

Thank you! And please!

How about a general questions board - the other support boards are specific (eg FAQ suggestions is just for them, tech support for tech support, reporting for reporting and so on...) I realised I've probably PM'd DemonGoddess two or three times with general questions in the past, but it seems unfair to just PM a specific admin all the time? Right now I have a question about whether something would potentially cause incomplete disclaiming, or worse, and there's nowhere really to ask it on forum, that I can see... Edit: I just realised I neither said please, nor thank you. Um. Please and thank you?

A Whore's Gallimaufry Written some time back for the prompt: Gallimaufry, has been stumbled upon and reviewed a second time. Shockinly I can't see anywhere I thanked BronxWench for the first review, so, um... sorry! Maybe I sent a PM? Maybe I was just damnably rude in failing to say thanks Sorry again, thanks for that 1st review! Second review: Thank you for your review. I see what you mean, with the story's stew suggestion at the end in place of pie! Didn't have Mrs Lovett in mind when I wrote it, but in a musical sense, maybe people would say the mercenary went for her ass because she had the "worst pie in" the village?

Nymphadora Necrophilia Thanks for your review! I've always understood that people wouldn't necessarily want their usual username associated with my stories, and that's why I've always had anon reviews active. It's basically because of that, that I support the captcha here. Besides the generically aggressive spambots shilling pharmaceuticals, there are angry trollish users who previously set spambots on different authors which were a pain in the ass Train wreck fiction is an analogy I have heard before, I can certainly see why readers feel that way. I hope the ending wasn't a disappointment!

11337 hits for Nymphadora Necrophilia, and now a 13th review! Thanks for your review! Another vote for the "Yeah, that sounds like something Bella would do, the minx!" camp I think that would have been something else, if there is sensation and more in death it'd be undead sex rather than necro Which means Flitwick would be in for a shock if he decided to pay Snape a visit, and he turned out to be a vampire after all, and woke up. "If this is an attempt at staking, you've missed my heart by some distance and lodged in my bowel." There's not a lot of room for both passion and emotion and the more mechanical smuttiness in 1000 word limit, so I think it is fair to say I maybe traded a little off, sure. On a tangent, For another forum, I came up with some commentary on part 3.... "Wow, Flitwick is on an ANAL RAMPAGE!" "In all my years of commentating I have never seen such raw power from a little man. JD must be happy with this signing!" "Look at that superb technique! He's drilling her like BP in the Gulf, with only half the mess!" "I think this is it! The climax!" "He Shoots! He SCORES!" "The fans are going wild out there...." (Leading to the writer/artist Soemele to comment, "The expression on the guy on the right is particularly amusing in the context of him watching a dwarf ass-fuck a dead chick.")

Phucked by the Phocomelus , the story AFF got because I didn't like the way the "Lara Croft's Mountain Vibrator Adventures" was going, fanfiction for one of Dick's more obscure books. At least, it doesn't have a movie. Yet. Didn't expect a review on this one, thanks for yours! Hope you had some toy fun

In the above post I incorrectly identified my first prompt story. A quick check back at the week one thread actually shows it was Haunting Horsecock, which originally lacked a title. What with a whole year of the fucking things inspirational prompts done I decided to finish off with a return to that first story. 'cos it took less effort and imagination and effort, hence part 2, the Wandering Witch. Assholish alliteration abuse, anyone? Anyway, much to my surprise I got a couple more reviews, Thank you for your review. Always happy to hear I've piqued a little curiousity or appealed to someone where it normally wouldn't! As for lack of reviews with my stuff, I tend to assume that readers drawn in by the description don't necessarily want to have their romantic fiction writing username on a review for, say, horsecock. I allow anonymous reviewing, but all the logging out, reviewing, logging back in is probably too much effort I can vouch for a small part of the realism: A friend of mine did claim to see a ghost horse after drinking a few litres of home fermented rough cider. The rest? eh, imagination! Before these prompts here on AFF I never managed a creative writing deadline, so it was a big deal for me Thank you for your review. I never pardon puns, I love 'em too much . Maybe a third of my prompt stories revolved around them I can understand your frustration with wanting a particular type of story and getting another. For what it's worth Molly's tongue almost certainly penetrated the horse's External urethral orifice But I think if I had a story like this without the Beast tag on this site there would be a sizable number of users who would be irritated simply because they'd view orally pleasuring a horse falls in the wider definition of beast content and demand a warning should exist. Because there really are users who would see a title with Horsecock in it, and be offended to then encounter horsecock. You might better enjoy my story Unleash the Beast in the Harry Potter section which does feature full penetration with a girl and a dog, is considerably more detailed at around 2700 words, and doesn't require any fandom of the series being PWP. I hate to leave a reader disappointed, however, and so I will try to find the time to write a longer story featuring ghosts, beasts and penetration! ...I wonder how Discworld fans would react to Binky taking Ysabel's spirit for one last ride?

I, uh... well that told me. Um. Thanks. Hey, Peter got raped by a bull in a normal episode! And Meg's loofah up the ass after she was in prison. They don't give a fuck! Most people seem to move on to Dr Lecter; the man's very cultured! I bet you're better than you think you are - practice is good! I know how it is though, reading something by another writer is often a lot more enjoyable than reading your own work, particularly from a pr0n point of view.

I've never encountered this. There's a published author who does silly underlined subheadings in the text before flashbacks but that seems to be for humor value and works quite well. I guess a heading just of FLASHBACK would annoy.
-
That's another good reason for me not to do it - I don't think I've ever written anybody in character! I'm a bit useless at the whole writing thing, but I try and show pluck at least! Good luck again finding someone to do it.

Spent today thinking about writing this, but I don't think I'll get it done, sorry! Maybe someone else would do a Bill story....

How about Buffalo Bill, Precious, and a jar of peanut butter?

Happy to help!
