  1. Facebook profile My mom talked me in to this, apparently most of my cousins are on it too. Doubt we'll do what the one poster suggested...BUT....I know I have an active Vampire Wars clan, Mafia Wars mob, and a Pirates crew...
  2. I'm waiting before performing the upgrade, to ensure that they have the bugs under control first, as this initial release is apparently quite buggy. Also, to ensure that the major modifications I have in the board already, are re-coded to work with IPB 3.x So far, none of them are, as they are ALL having to be rewritten.
  3. Sorry all, been working now for 10 days consecutively, so I've been coming home and just ....falling down. ugh. Will get to all this in the morning. I'm guessing that the manga link is not active on the main index? I'll have to fix that...
  4. Sure, could do, but thing is, we do have a subdomain for the manga based stuff now too. I expect once we get to that subdomain for sorting, I'm going to be doing lots of moving of stuff that was put there because there WAS no place to put the manga based stuff
  5. the above request, is your story based on the anime arc or manga arc? We have a subdomain for each, so please be more specific
  6. There should be a link with the warnings. If not, I'll have to see about getting that fixed. As to the search engine, there is an upgrade we have planned FOR the search, which is an entirely different engine that is designed to work with a large database. In fact, the thing will not work with a database that is less than 500MB in size, or in the case of a forum, a forum with less than 2,000 members. Kind of depends on the application. In any case, this particular engine is, as I said, designed to work with large datasets. So once we have that in place, it'll be much easier to find stuff. I'll have to check and see if we can do that sooner rather than later, as well.
  7. The standard disclaimer autofill made a problem with the code itself, to where it destabilized it, as near as we can figure. It had been discontinued long before either manta2g came back, or I came on board. This is, of course, an educated guess, going by the code snippets we had to clean out throughout the scripts to stabilize the program itself a couple years ago. Some of the snippets we removed were definitely PART of that function. Now, we do have something planned to take its place, which will work better. Unfortunately, it won't be implemented for quite awhile yet. Have other things that need to be done first, and are being done.
  8. Insertion of oddball characters will happen from time to time, for a variety of reasons. The most common, is a word export to html, and the user not cleaning up the file of the many disallowed html tags. I'll have a look at this one too, of course, when I get to this part.
  9. Sorry for not getting to it 'til this morning. Saw your reply as I was leaving for work last night. It's all fixed up now...
  10. it may be a few days before I get to the merge, I hope not, but that's how it's been working
  11. Without looking at it, bet it's a self insert sort of thing loosely based on the Buffyverse.
  12. seeing it's a 600xxx sequence story, looks like it's a minor we deleted in past.
  13. This one I have to figure out where to put. I COULD change the top level of Movie/TV/Sports to include Political.
  14. Suggested core disclaimer If you look at the structure of it, you see EXACTLY what we're looking for. Now, when we say word it however you like, it's so you all can get creative with it. Trust me, I've seen some DAMN funny disclaimers that way, that not only contain the core points we need, but are just flat out giggle worthy The point is, in fanfiction disclaimers, we are looking for the following- The entirety of the fandom- Generally speaking, taking anime as an example, if you use the anime TITLE, we take from that that you are disclaiming the entirety of it (characters, locations and etc) by saying you do not own it. no money/profit made from it- This, is of course, very important. As the original creators are the ones who make money from it, and the ones who borrow their worlds to write IN, should not BE making money from this. At least, not without that person's permission and sharing WITH the original creator of course. Because the archive covers a WIDE variety of fandoms, covering books to manga, to anime, to movies and etc, is why we ask that you ensure that you and your work are protected as best as we can manage by doing this. Granted, this is not bullet proof protection, but it at least makes it so that the worst that I could see happening (and others I've asked about this in depth) is having to simply remove the work from the site. That's much better than other alternatives I think. It is NOT possible to add a blanket disclaimer for all 22 subdomains and 500+ fanworlds. If it was, we would have already done that. We do, however, have something in the works, but it's a long ways off. Believe me, I wish it wasn't as much as the rest of you, as it certainly would make mine and the other mods' jobs a bit less time consuming just for this part of it. So, since it's not even a feasible option yet, I'm not even going to describe what it is, but it WILL make things easier on the authors. Hope that all helps
  15. Hey there, From what you're saying, if the main pair in the story is a yaoi pair, it belongs in yaoi. If it's more of a thing where it's not concentrated on the relationships, and/or just plain old friendship, and/or just an adventure type thing, then it'd go in general. Hope that helps
  16. Figured I'd check on the link for you, apparently they're requiring a login before you can see it.
  17. It was hidden because of the disclaimer. You disclaimed the characters, not the entirety of it, (world, characters and etc). That's why, if you simply state "I don't own InuYasha" or whichever fandom you're in, and then that you make no money, we pass it by, or if it was warned, note it as corrected in the working document and leave it alone.
  18. so this is a duplicate user as well as story?
  19. Technically, yaoi would apply to fanfiction based on anime and manga (and other stuff from Japan with fiction written about it), whereas slash covers all the rest of the m/m pairings
  20. Did a quick search based on the last poster's info... This it?
  21. It's certainly worth looking at. Often though, when someone "adopts" a story, it's been abandoned and they have permission. However, we still do look in to things like this and make sure that the person who took it over DID have permission from the person who originally started the work.
  22. nuked 'em
  23. Not only has this plagiarist returned for the THIRD time, but he/she actually plagiarised, of all things, the Lord of the Rings screenplay. Before that, it was an author who goes by aimlessflame, who's story had been published in 2003. Not only did this person steal that author's work, but posted in all over the archive, in multiple subdomains. So, here is the latest of their wonderful "original" (NOT) work Transcript of LotR screenplay Story that was posted here in Naruto subdomain Uhhhhhh....did this user HONESTLY think that no one would catch this, especially with the direct copy of Aragorn's verses???
  24. We'll look in to the user problem for you, but in the meantime, navigate to the originals subdomain via the top menu, and then go in to your user panel. You'll then be able to access it ANYWAY. As long as you browser address bar says "http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/" or whichever subdomain you want to be working in, you can access all your data within that subdomain. If you're IN the subdomain, and still cannot access the story, give me a link to it, and I'll have a look and see why you're unable to get in to it.
  25. You've obviously not read what you're being asked to do to make your story compliant with site requirements. If you do that, and fix it accordingly, then the stuff is unhidden, if it's been hidden. If you don't, it remains hidden, until we get to the last phase for it, in which case the user gets an email and we give a final attempt to help you get it to where it needs to be before it's deleted. Unless you're a kiddie and don't belong here, we'd really rather NOT delete your work out of hand, which is WHY we use the hide function. This HAS to be done for each and every story. There is a field that you should be using to do this. The latest one which you were sent something on, is a crossover. Rules for that are specific, in that you must disclaim all worlds involved. Also, as it involves a real person/celebrity, rules for disclaiming ABOUT real people are not only specific, there is absolutely no wiggle room on them. Real people are of course their OWN intellectual property, so if a user is not careful, and the person in question wants to, not only can he/she go after the site for your fiction, he/she can go after YOU. So in that particular for instance, you would not only disclaim the fandom, say you make no money, but it would have to state that it's a work a fiction, and you don't know the person involved. I just checked my working document, and the other stories you're talking about, it looks like you deleted them rather than fix what is needed. Of course, it's always the user's choice to not abide by the very few rules this site has. When that happens, WE (the mods) then handle things accordingly, to enforce the site terms of service, which EVERY user agrees to abide by when they create a login to this site in the FIRST place.
