  1. I am definitely a pantser as well. As long as I have a spark of inspiration and some vague idea of what the main conflict might be, I'm usually good to go. Though I've done stories with less. I reverse outline. Once I have a couple chapters written, I go back and outline what happened in them and note down important details to keep things consistent. Then, if it's feeling aimless or something doesn't flow right, I'll jot down more specific things that could happen if the characters are kind enough to oblige.
  2. Yes, and that drives me bonkers
  3. I finally read and reviewed your story a couple days ago @BronxWench. Sorry I was a little late with it. To everyone else, I'm going to disable contributions in a couple days, so if anyone else wants to put a story up, you can let me know and I'll wait for you or you can save it for next year's anthology. Awesome job everybody! Hope to see you in the Holidays one where the theme will be... Drumroll please... Holidays! I know, I'm surprised too. Any holiday centered around december/January. Have fun!
  4. Dogsitting over, time to get back to the important shit: writing smut. Soon as I get a good idea. … … *Crickets* … … Fuck it, I’ll just work on my Christmas fic.

Dog shitting?  Hmm… might make for a crappy Christmas story, just saying….

  5. @BronxWench did someone else post a story, or was that last review for ‘chapter 8’ a dig at your own?
  6. There usually is. People tend to be busier around Christmas so there might not be as many participants but I'm in.
  7. It’s 6 am. I’m sad that the sun’s not up yet to see me off to dreamland. I miss summer already.

Actually it’s still Spring.  Summer starts in December.

Summer never really leaves AZ. So I assume there are other seasons not consisting of Hot, Really Hot, Living here is an act of hubris and slightly hot?

  8. I always love your reviews. With your specificity and encouragement, you really know how to make a writer blush. I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I don’t do ‘feminine’ women often, so it was extra important for me, given the ‘femininity’ unfairly attributed to victimhood and pregnancy, to give her a spark. I’m glad she turned out fierce and fiery, and not just, you know, broken. Also, don’t tell anyone, but being a m/m writer where men are always the heroes of my tales and women are usually relegated to support roles if they appear at all, it was fun to do a little men-bashing in this one. The very word ‘nautical’ makes me smile. Finally hearing it attached to one of my stories is awesome. I wish I wrote more nautical shit. I’m so glad Concha’s feistyness felt real. I really wanted her to be the primary hook in this story and to do that, she had to have that shred of fight left in her. Thank you so much for the review. I’m glad the rapes were decently written. I wanted to make them super brief to hit that note of ‘numb bitterness’ you mentioned, and make them a statement of both her psyche and the times in which she lives, rather than a pivotal event of the story. (Also I hate writing M/F sex scenes, so there’s that too lol.) And I’m sooo relieved, you have no idea, that the F/F scene went over well. Thank you for commenting on that. Like of course the same pacing and flow would work as with M/M scenes, but the issue for me is word choice. I haven’t read nearly enough F/F to know which words are cheesy and which are too clinical, you know? Thank you for the tips and thank you for the thoughtful review. Thank you, InvidiaRed! Morbid is my middle name, after all. Well, Actually it’s Dawn, but… Chloe Morbid would be much more fun.
  9. I'm trying not to think of my Christmas oneshot until Halloween is over but I'm definitely already thinking about it.
  10. We should read them to each other. You bring the marshmallows, I’ll bring the flamethrower to cook said marshmallows.
  11. Yay! Updated the table of contents! I’ll try to find time to read this and Synth tonight. I’m excited!
  12. Finally read Apprentice and did my review replies. Now back to Hannibal for me!

  13. Yes. Definitely a sign. Thanks for the review! Thank you for pointing those out. That’s what happens when I continue to edit after it’s been betaed. I’m glad the F/F smut bit went well enough. I think that was what I was most worried about, especially with the awkward boob grab. Still not entirely sure why I didn’t rewrite that bit, lol. Thank you for the review!
  14. It’s a mature, television thriller. I wanted more of it, I wanted to see it go places the tv producers couldn’t take it, so I thought I’d check out the fandom. I thought “Oh, the fans of this show will be mature”, “I’ll totally find some dark and angsty fanfics on this one!”

You fooled me again, internet. Well done. I’d better go to bed as soon as I can stop cry-laughing.

Lol my problem wasnt that there were fics like that, it was that all the hannibal fics on that particular site were like that.

      JayDee

Fair enough! I hope you find what you’re looking for elsewhere. I think a lot of Friday the 13th fics have much the same issue.

@CloverReef Hannibal with an eating disorder, right?

  15. BTW that Riggs & Mortis thing made me laugh
  16. The anthology is up!
  17. Title says it all! Our own little nook to reply to reviews and discuss stories in the 2018 AFF Halloween Anthology. Find the stories here: http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600109141 Party hard everybody! Lets make our ancestors turn in their graves!
  18. You can leave a link to your challenges thread. Maybe someone could use the inspiration.
  19. So many words! I love words. Give me a moment for my organizational neurosis to take over. My brain won’t let me do anything else until I make a list. It likes lists, and I like to keep it sated. Curator Concierge Fixer Factotum Gopher Acquirer Fetcher Go-Between Obtainer Personal Shopper Broker I had to look factotum up. It’s close to what I’m looking for, but does it imply one single employer? I like fixer, because it’s a word/title everyone’s familiar with, though I’m not sure he does enough ‘fixering’ to warrant it. Thank you for all the suggestions, guys. I gotta think this through and indulge in my bad habit of way overthinking small details.
  20. 5 more days until the Halloween Anthology will be up and running! Everyone is welcome to add a story!

If you haven’t started yours yet, there are some Halloween story ideas in the Original Challenges forum. And don’t worry if you don’t get your story done by the 20th, you can still submit an entry up to Halloween and beyond.

@Sinfulwolf oh good you're a perfectionist too. Welcome to the club! I've been doing that constantly with chaptered fics for the last year. But I churned out the 3 Halloween fics I wrote in like 2 weeks. Complete switch around from last year.

I still can’t focus on the one story, but since I’ve got the other one, it’ll definitely go up and  give that nice creepy Christmas feel….

I wouldn’t say perfectionist… but I do like to put out something good and entertaining at least.

  21. Question! Okay so there’s this place. Let’s just call it the ghetto. It’s pretty dangerous and filled with abject poverty and crime. And there’s a dude who gets paid by various rich people to go into this place and do various things for them. Usually just buying things for them on the black market or something that they can’t get elsewhere. So what would you call him? What would his job title be? Errand boy seems too… I guess less specific? Like he’s not picking up dry cleaning or taking dogs for a walk. He gets paid a lot of money to go into this place no one else wants to go, to do somewhat menial things, but things that are important enough for someone to pay a fair amount for. I’ve had him call himself a glorified errand boy, but that just doesn’t really hit the mark. And I’ve had other people call him a mercenary, but he’s not hired muscle. He doesn’t rough people up or intimidate anyone.
  22. Alrighty let me know if you change your mind about colt45
  23. Sounds like you’re a little gunshy about it. Is this your first time doing an OC that’s not based on someone you know? It should get easier after you’ve done it a few times. I’d suggest you sit down and just force yourself to write a scene or two with the character. Maybe look for writing prompts online just for random practice ideas. If you need any help, feel free to PM me.
  24. I’m not sure if I’m 100% certain what your issue is, but I’m going to try to break it down a little. How I avoid the Mary Sue pickle: Don’t hesitate to make the character ugly/unattractive. I don’t mean overall. This site is a haven for smut so most characters will be sexy, but every single one of their flaws shouldn’t be sexy. They shouldn’t be sexy every moment of every day. In fact, they’re sexier if they’re human, if they have something to contrast with their sexy. For example, maybe she has a bad day. Maybe she says something nasty and other characters have a hard time forgiving her. Maybe she has an ugly mole on her ass that freaks Sanzo out. Its good if she’s not perfect, and not perfect means making bad choices, lasting consequences, and sometimes turning other characters off. Cementing a character in my mind: Writing out the strengths and weaknesses is a good start, but I think inspiration is even better when you’re having trouble getting a clear picture. Take some time to read a book you love or listen to music or watch movies, just to find a basic personality you can pluck out and use. If you’re going with YOUR personality, find one similar to you or even drastically opposite to you that you can embellish the character with. There are writing exercises you can do before you write this character into a story. Just to get her right in your head. Such as writing little scenes of her backstory. Or write an interview of her in script form. If you google it, I’m sure you can find a lot more. Good luck!
  25. Welcome Superwhiteboy! Always happy to see new writers pop up. I used to write in the tekken fandom but now I only write original M/M
