  1. Honestly, there aren’t a lot of members who would deliberately game the system. We did have some in the past, but they tended to also demand reviews and indulge in other objectionable behaviors. I’m not going to say that an author shouldn’t fix a glaring typo, or formatting issue, simply to avoid bumping up a story. I think we can trust our members to not strive for front page dominance in an archive.

  2. And my dirty mind instantly turned this thought as a flirtation with staff via hidden stories…

  3. Hello, all. AI generated art is nearly worthless at its very best. More frequently, it is completely worthless, or worse. It will absolutely hallucinate, or “deliberately” get things wrong. Beyond putting gibberish on signs of all kinds, it just naturally screws things up. People don’t match the descriptions you give it. Cars, as in real, actual cars where you could Google pictures of real ones, it screws them up, and badly. Honestly, a better “bribe” would be to not generate AI art. Cheers!

  4. Hello, @DemonGoddess and all. Any hope of getting an “alignment” button installed in the Jodit editor on the archive side? On the “example” editor they put out for public view, they do have a single button that can allow the user to change text alignment. Thanks in advance either way. https://xdsoft.net/jodit/

  5. It’s the Joey and Chandler problem from Friends. They found out they had access to free porn all the time and suddenly every thought turns in that direction. Sadly, I don’t deliver pizzas.

  6. So, on this wonderful April the 1st, are we going to be leveraging AI to auto-finish all those WIPs lingering in the archive?

    Parody category?

How about Television > Misc TV Shows > Crossovers?

    Parody category?

Okay. This is trickier. Are all the fandoms within a single archive?

    Parody category?

Our general take on cross-fandoms stories is that we allow them, but the various fandoms need to be disclaimed individually, and the story should be posted in the main fandom. Clear as mud, right? As an example, the main fandom is Supernatural, but some characters from Doctor Who, Roswell, and Torchwood are included. The story is posted in Supernatural, as an AU, and you would disclaim all the fandoms. If they can’t all fit in the disclaimer, you can note in the disclaimer that additional fandoms will be named in the chapter in which they first appear, and then just put an author’s note at the top of the chapter with the additional disclaimer.

  10. Hello, BronxWench and all. Yikes! I wouldn’t knowingly “tweak” or fix errors just to bump a story up, either. And, up until the (truly welcome and awesome) Great Fix, the archive didn’t work like that. But now it does. 😮 What kind of “leeway” will be involved here? Obviously someone deliberately “gaming” the system isn’t cool. But does an author need to ignore a newly discovered yet potentially glaring typo, plot-hole, etc until they “unblock” themselves and post a new chapter, no matter how long that time might be? Thanks in advance, whatever your guidance might be.

  11. I did make the effort to update the FAQ section for the new code…

  14. That’s something @manta2g needs to look at to implement.

  15. I’ve tried this with multiple tags and across different archives. I’m unable to replicate. I expect as BronxWench said, you need to clear your cache.

  17. So I just published my first completely new story with the upgraded archive and I noticed a difference. On the old archive, you had to publish the first chapter when you published the story. Now it seems like on the upgraded archive you don’t need to do that. My question is, can I create a placeholder for future stories that I’m not ready to publish in my story editor without it showing up on the archive? I immediately published the first chapter without thinking that I should check if the story is live. How does that work?

  18. Well, I saw this and this is part of what I meant. I would love to create a bunch that are visible only to me and staff. I’m kinda curious if I can just change that and have it be visible to everyone later.

  19. Oh! If you can hide it via your story manager, that’s fine then! I honestly forget what is available to non-staff members anymore...

  20. Okay, just to be clear on what I mean about placeholders, if it could be a hidden “draft” in my story manager in the correct category. If that’s not possible, that’s fine. It’s fine since I usually only publish when my piece is a few chapters deep or complete.

  21. If you create a story, even without content, it will appear in the archive. Interestingly enough, we don’t allow placeholders, so my recommendation is not to create the story until you have the first chapter ready to publish. You can create the story, check to see if it’s live, and then add the first chapter right away, though.

  23. I stopped looking back at the Holiday 2025 anthology like a month ago, so it’s very fortunate that @Thundercloud sent me an email to let me know he left a review for Meaningful Gifts! And believe me, that was something I was concerned about! 😄 I’ve always felt that exposition, properly delivered, can be very engaging and fun, but a lot of the time the reader gets bored, so I did my best to make sure that information was delivered in a way that both didn’t overwhelm the reader, and also that didn’t feel so much like they were having things explained to them, so much as that they were kind of seeing beats of the siblings’ story, if in a past tense kind of way. Wow! Thank you so much! I can’t remember how long I spent on that, but I spent a lot of time trying to make it as good as I could, so I’m really happy it paid off! And thank you again! I’d been thinking about posting it on its own, so that may have been the final nudge I needed! I feel bad for those who’ve already read and reviewed it, but maybe it’d be worth a reread when I post it. 😅 I’m not sure when I’ll have the next thing ready for posting, but I’ll keep chipping away at it! Even if it’s only a little at a time, any progress is progress!

  24. Could’ve been a legit account that got hacked. AFAIK, Discord’s pretty responsive to complaints. As to art, find a real artist (there’s likely websites for that), or figure out chat GPT yourself.

  25. TBH, the flattery can be nice. The last one I got on AO3… the spammer took a moment to read the chapter (or had AI do it), And according to what I’ve read, the request to other websites for comms, will eventually lead to $$ demands. Not sure if they *actually* produce AI generated art or not, but $$ and fanfiction mix as well as gasoline/matches .

  26. They just spam that crap all over. I feel bad for vulnerable users who might think it is genuine and get scammed :(

  27. There’s no way to make the code differentiate. Any change to a story, whether a chapter edit or a new chapter posting, will bump the story up. Honestly, it’s not like you're tweaking errors just to bump your story up. If we do see that some members are doing just that, however, we will take action.

  28. Ok, so I was away from home for a while, but we have some more reviews for WitS from @GeorgeGlass! This is definitely an area where the compressed timeframe of the story affected how fast it moved. This whole thing takes place over about a week, and I had a hard time believing Eparlegna would wait too long to make his move. Given that, I definitely ended up having Luzurial come to her decision faster than if the story had taken place over, say, a month. I was definitely aware of what you’re talking about, which was why I stretched the timeline out by one more day, so that Luzurial had around an entire day to think about what she was going to do, rather than, say, a few hours. Thank you! That kind of came from JayDee. In Whore of Heaven, the barrier is described as looking vaguely like smoke, so I figured there might be a sense of that as it expanded, and with the agents driving away from it I was kind of reminded of the pyroclastic flow scene from Dante’s Peak. Correct. I didn’t think I’d be able to create a Sloth monster that was actually threatening, but figured out I could make it work if it sapped the energy from people around it. The Gluttony creature you only hear about, from the elevator shaft, actually has a little bit of extra story behind it. I remember talking in the review thread for one of @InvidiaRed’s stories about insect mouthparts and the proboscis, and posting by way of example a wheelbug up close to show it. Invidia was like “Well THAT’s terrifying.” I couldn’t resist having a creature design with a similar organ and have someone else take Invidia’s “Well SCREW that!” attitude toward it. Thank you again! I was rather fond of that one. *shakes fist at the sky* JAAAAAYDEEEEEE!

  29. Be detailed in the issue you’re experiencing that is unexpected behavior for the software. If possible, provide screens of the issue. Be sure to state where in the archive you were, when you experienced the bug. This helps us locate the error and fix it more quickly, if it exists, and rule it out if we cannot duplicate it.
