  1. Okay, thought I'd let you know I've constructed a query which I'll be using sub category by sub category, to construct them as they should be. However, with all the OTHER stuff I happen to have going at the same time, it's going to take some time. So, please be sure to add your disclaimer as needed for the book fandom you're writing for in the mean time. I won't be using it for any sub categories that are crossovers, as those need to have any of the worlds in the crossover disclaimed, and it's simply not an option for me, as I don't have the kind of time needed to be able to do that, story by story, which is mostly what would be needed. Where a crossover world has its own sub sub category, those can be done when I run the query. I will be doing this in the sub domains with multiple fandoms FIRST, as those are going to actually take me the most time. That being the case, with everything else, I'd say running the query as I will be, will take me roughly a month for that sub domain alone.
  2. I'm re-reading Bag of Bones (Stephen King)
  3. Just like with ANY website, this one is in a constant state of change. As you must surely be aware, there are over 100,000 stories across the entire archive. That means AT LEAST 100,000 chapters, but realistically, most of the stories are multi-chapter. As we work through the archive to catalog, sort and repair, it's as I said a time intensive task. Without what has been getting done, this archive would have been UNABLE to support its summer traffic, just as it was unable to support its summer traffic for the last few years before this. This is the FIRST summer where constant down time has NOT been an issue. That is a direct result of all this work that's being done. No, it's not readily apparent yet, unless you're following our progress. Apparently in past years, it was said that the corrupted stories were unfixable (a lie), that bandwidth would ALWAYS be an issue (another lie) and there was simply no way to address the corruptions that existed or the overages that were a constant occurence. Obviously, those people were without doubt WRONG, as has been proven in the last year. By repairing the records as I have been, that helps with bandwidth, as did the initial recategorization, and ongoing sort and sub categorization that is being done sub domain by sub domain. You've obviously not taken the time to have a look and see the volume of work, which we all post here in forum as it's easier to track that way. In addition, the initial recategorization did a very important thing for the database itself, BESIDES stabilizing it, which was DRASTICALLY reducing the query load. The query load before hand was in a large part responsible for more down time, as more people would visit. A very good example of this are any of the multi fandom sub domains such as books, anime, and cartoons; to name a few. each one, individually, went from over 300 queries to load the initial categories page, to about 20. As its obvious that any improvements, and any work are irrelevant to you, I think I've said quite enough on the subject; other than to reiterate that when we get to the hp subdomain, we will get to it. I don't have a time frame quite yet, as we're not near enough to getting to it, to GIVE one.
  4. I get this newsletter in email, and this article is interesting. ----- EFF Sues President Bush Over Internet Surveillance Mike Sachoff | Staff Writer The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) has filed a lawsuit against President George W. Bush and others in his administration for the illegal surveillance of emails and telephone calls without a warrant. The suit also names the National Security Agency (NSA), Vice President Dick Cheney, Cheney's chief of staff David Addington, and former Attorney General and White House Counsel Alberto Gonzales. The lawsuit, Jewel v. NSA, is aimed at ending what the EFF says is "the NSA's dragnet surveillance of millions of ordinary Americans and holding accountable the government officials who illegally authorized it." Evidence in the case includes undisputed documents provided by former AT&T employee Mark Klein showing AT&T has routed copies of Internet traffic to a secret room in San Francisco controlled by the NSA. EFF attorneys filed a suit against AT&T in 2006 alleging that US telecoms giants had opened its network to the NSA without warrants. This year Congress passed legislation giving telecommunications firms immunity from spying lawsuits. The case is now stalled in federal court. "In addition to suing AT&T, we've now opened a second front in the battle to stop the NSA's illegal surveillance of millions of ordinary Americans and hold personally responsible those who authorized or participated in the spying program," said Senior Staff Attorney Kevin Bankston. "For years, the NSA has been engaged in a massive and massively illegal fishing expedition through AT&T's domestic networks and databases of customer records. Our goal in this new case against the government, as in our case against AT&T, is to dismantle this dragnet surveillance program as soon as possible."
  5. I have no clue why a cartoon would be under anime, but it's not the only one that we've found there. There is a small avatar section there as well, which will end up moved to cartoons.
  6. since the warnings add to the story description, it's the only way TO do it at this point in time, really. Otherwise you run into the character limitation for that field, the more you add. However, part of what's going to happen (not now, but when the new stuff is ready even just for beta) for the story description field and the disclaimer field, is they'll be made into text "blob" type fields. So any character type limits will be much higher, and that won't really be a problem any more. Also, if I'm remembering right from past discussion, the plan for the warnings field is to make it so it inserts much like the disclaimer allowing for the description to be ONLY the description. <--is half asleep at the moment
  7. Tit for tat part 2 is in celebs, belongs in movies (movie title Once Upon A Time in Mexico) Bolomang is in originals, belongs in games (AD&D campaign Eberron)
  8. yeah, it's in one of the many sub domains we've yet to sort.
  9. I set it up so that the parent forum is a category, and the child forums display under it. So, by looking at the entry page (provided you're logged in), it's actually right there, and clickable.

    Oops

If, by some chance she had the autosave function enabled, look for a file that begins with part of the file name, followed by ~.tmp. That would be the last saved version.
  11. If she can access it through her author panel, and I bet she can, she needs to correct her disclaimer.
  12. OC categories are a long ways away from coming back, if ever. We are limited at this point in time to three levels of categories only. As the software does NOT support limitless sub sub and sub sub sub, an so forth categories, what you're asking is quite frankly impossible with THIS software. Of course, there is also the ongoing project of writing a much more robust program to take the place of the current, which will allow many things I CANNOT even think to do with this program we currently have. However, programming takes time. Debugging takes time. Even if I work a 90 hour day most of the time. And that's not as facetious as it may sound. We each cram an awful lot of WORK into every day, with what we do. The function of the initial recategorization was to stabilize the database, which was in IMMINENT danger of crashing severely. The next step is the re-sort and subsequent sorting and proper placement of stories subdomain by subdomain. It's a time intensive task. As I've explained many, many times, we will get to the subdomain you're referencing in SEQUENCE, not before. While I appreciate you voicing your misgivings of giving support to an unfinished product, by the same token, understand that it makes no difference to me as to whether or not these very large ongoing projects will continue, in the voicing of those misgivings. The work will continue, and you'll have to wait. Just like everyone else.
  13. The problem with the current search function, is that it was designed with no bigger than a 200mb database in mind. That being the case, the current database (6GB in size) simply overwhelms it. We have a replacement for it, that WILL work with a large db, but so far it doesn't seem to want to play well with the old software. It WILL work with what we're putting together, but that is months away from even being available to beta test. Make sure when you're searching, you check the check box for mySQL boolean search mode, or the results will not be narrowed down at all.
  14. We've not actually sorted the tv subdomain yet, so any crossovers between Angel: the Series and Harry Potter will more than likely be lumped in with all the rest of the them. However, we HAVE almost finished sorting in the buffy subdomain, and there is a sub sub category for BtVS/HP. I'm sure once we get to the slash section, that we'll find more for that sub sub to be moved there as well.
  15. Also check your author panel, you'll see the story in the listing, even if it's not visible.
  16. 2112: Overture --- Rush
  17. Yep, in the books sub domain
  18. As I said, the forum part is EASY. For those donors who wish to be known as donors, I can easily create a user group that says that is what they are. All I need from them is their forum user name, and I move 'em into the group. That way, anyone who looks at 'em here will SEE that under their names, rather than member or junior member. And, as part of registration requirements for the forum is giving a valid archive user link, all anyone has to do is click that link to see the user's profile. Something for far in the future (and I do mean far, like a year at best) that we can likely do is linking between the profiles in the different programs, once we get the new software working in the manner it needs to be. But in the meantime, at least for the forum, it's definitely very very easy to do. Thank you for your donation Harley!
  19. No prob, I'm sorry I didn't see it. Must've been too tired too dammit. It's unhidden now
  20. pffft, we have a bible section too. My guess is this person decided to post that where she did, when she did, as a preachy type thing, and obviously the users just weren't interested.
  21. Okay, this is what your disclaimer says (I just checked it before posting)- It adequately covers the fandom. It does not cover the no money/profit made.
  22. Please read this FAQ. I just rechecked your disclaimer, and it's missing the no money/profit part that is required yet. As soon as you add that, let me know, I'll check and it'll be unhidden.
  23. I need the story name and the subdomain it's in. Once I have that, I can recheck, and provided it's all fixed, unhide it.
  24. not a problem at all. A VERY quick fix ya know.
  25. ack....just waking up here. So anyway, I went ahead and CHANGED your login name, so that you lose none of your attached data.
