  1. Last chapter is the problem. Read the content guidelines, please. Preview chapters, author note chapters, and etc, are not allowable. You were emailed 1/10, so you'll want to check your mail as well. As with bad disclaimers, we GIVE you plenty of time to correct the situation. First step is to hide, then it's deleted 30 days after it's been hidden.
  2. Yes, you can still do a/n's IN your chapters, we simply ask that you keep them brief. The limit imposted for a/n's within a chapter is 600 words, per chapter. Not 600 words per story. Hope that helps.
  3. no, that's perfectly acceptable 1. With a collection of microfics, I gave each one a separate chapter with an "index" chapter listing tags and whatnot for each microfic (so they could jump to the one they wanted). Is this wrong? show me an example, and I can better answer you, for some reason I'm not seeing this 2. I am writing a parody of Macbeth adapted into 40k, am I doing it wrong by having each scene have it's own chapter? no, not at all 3. With my Sisters of Chaos story, I have an index at the front which lists tags for each part (as each of the 4 parts is drastically different and it also warns the reader as there are some fetishes in there that some would find very off putting. Is this acceptable? There's nothing wrong with extended warnings within a chapter 4. I am also currently rewriting the whole series and the number of chapters (post-rewrite) have changed. Is it okay to delete the old chapters and then upload the new ones? Absolutely 5. Also, I have an almost finished story that is meant to be read as a report and it is over 6,000 words long, breaking it up would ruin the look of it or should I just break it arbitrarily into chunks?) This change is not going to happen for quite a long time. So, it's a matter of something to be aware of for future, and then structuring stories accordingly.
  4. Here's the thing. The whole POINT of eliminating AN chapters is to keep this database viable. Again, each chapter insert is anywhere from 256K to 2MB in size with the current software. So in order to keep the thing from having more problems like what happened last Friday, this is one of those things that have GOT to go. Further, with the new software in development expect a word limitation per chapter. We are sussing out exactly what that limit is, but at this point, a conservative estimate on the world limitation per chapter will be 5000 words.
  5. Rather than posting each and every time I run the db utilities, here is the schedule, for every day. 6:30 am EST 4:30 pm EST 10:30 pm EST Expect slowdown for approximately 5 to 10 minutes as the utilities work their way sequentially through the tables. This is in addition to the nightly maintenance routines which are run between 4:10 am and 4:30 am EST

OOOOOO When I get some time freed up (haha, or when a day is extended to be 72 hours maybe ) I plan on maybe making some trophy graphics and stuff for things like KILL rates and whatnot. That's part of the fun of it.

  8. We've been coming across this a fair bit recently. Someone sees a story which is unfinished, maybe abandoned, hasn't been touched for a long time. That person decides that they'd like to see it finished, so go ahead and do it. Here's the thing. UNLESS the original author has given permission to take over the story, this can't be done, as we will treat it as a form of plagiarism. Unless the user can provide proof they've been given permission to continue the story when asked for it, the user can expect that the story itself will not be allowed to stay on the site. Now, since this is something that hasn't been made clear in the past, here is how you can expect to have this handled. Rather than an instant deletion of your account, the first time this happens, the story will be hidden, and the user emailed so that the user can remove the story in question. If it happens a second time, one can expect to be processed completely as a plagiarist, which INCLUDES account deletion.
  9. running db maintenance utilities, expect some slowness for approximately the next 5 minutes. I will be working in the buffy and tv subdomain tables off and on tonight, so those subdomains may experience slow down as well, while I work.
  10. first one for today, expect minor slow downs for approx 5 minutes.
  11. Last one for today, expect a some slowdown while the utilities run for the next 5 minutes approximately.
  12. That's easy, and addressed in a FAQ. For placement of crossovers, it should be put where it is based as far as the primary fandom in the story.
  13. running db utils, expect some slowdown for the next 5 minutes or so.
  14. At this point, I am trying to avoid any future crashes. Until we get the new software up that's in development, I have to take measures which protect the database from problems. This is one of them. So, as I said, discuss all you want to in the forum. Not in long ANs, AN chapters, or review boards. If that continues, Friday will be a cakewalk compared to what I'll be dealing with with database problems. I really, really don't want that. The content guidelines are in ADDITION to the TOS. They do not supplant it.
  15. As I said in news, here it is. Running db utilities, it takes approximately 5 minutes, so things may slow down as the utilities run through the tables you're in.
  16. Like I said, as long as it "lives" in the same sub domain, the author is perfectly capable of moving it him or herself. You move it to where it best fits. Although at this point in originals, it's a crap shoot, to be honest. The thing is a right mess, and has been for a very long time. So, if you feel it belongs in original-misc for now, then that's where you should move it to. Once the clean up crew and I get to that subdomain, we'll be sorting and cataloging it all, and I'll be moving it all around according to what they found. But, that's a ways away yet. If after we've placed according to sort, the author always has the right and ability to move it to wherever they feel it best fits, regardless. Hope that makes sense for not only what you need short term, but also in the long term.
  17. Hey, "Another Code" is also known as Trace Memory? And "Style Savvy" as Wagamama Fashion: Girls Mode? Just confirming on those two
  18. To ensure that users know what is and is not allowable; this page has been added to the archive, and is accessible from all menus.
  19. yes, the content not displaying was the problem I was referencing. The database suffered a minor crash, I got one of the hosting company techs to do a restore right away BEFORE I left for work this morning.
  20. You'll notice there are some problems happening with the database at the moment. I will address this when I get home from work.
  21. If you still need some help on 1999 music, here's a top 100 list
  22. As recaptcha is used in both archive and forum, here is how you address the issue of the code box not displaying. First, check your browser settings. (Generally in Tools). Make sure that scripts are allowed. If it's not the browser, the second part to check would be your firewall. Be sure it is allowing the action from your browser.
  23. sure is, if you're using the same email now as you were then, I can simply look it up and change it. I'm guessing you're also using the same pen name? The other option would be for you to post to your current, and I'll still change it. Either way, so long as I can get the information for the field.
