  1. Status of funding, and how it's been used to date Current PayPal balance: $152.84 AFF balance in that account: $137.84 September 1 hosting bill was paid in full 9/10, for 499.95 With expected funding from banners, we're almost set for October's payment! My goal here is to make it so that the banners actually pay for the hosting, and that it is able to be budgeted. That I can have a forecast of receivables for the month. More on that a bit later. As I've said before, I will gladly make available a balance sheet for the PayPal account. All anyone needs to do is ask me for it. If you have questions about any transactions after viewing it, ask that too. I have NO problems with answering any questions about this. Real Person Fiction We've recently seen quite an influx of stories about people who, in real life, are not yet of age. This is something we actually cannot host. This is mentioned in the Terms of Service for the site, as well. Some of you will have been affected by this, in having stories deleted for what may seem to be no reason. This would be it. Tagging Your Stories As you all know, we have very little in the way of restrictions for actual content. What we do need for you, the authors, to do; is to make sure that you have properly tagged your story when you initially add it. Of course, as your story grows, there is often a need to add additional tags. Simply add that as a line at the top of the chapter. This, of course, would not count as an author note. That is one of the most common complaints I see, where an author has not tagged his or her story correctly, and a user is surprised, often in a way they really didn't want to be. The list of story tags is available here for view. Coming Changes The next set of changes has to do with the advertising subweb. One of the things I've been asked about, is the possibility of recurring payments for the advertisers. So, this is something I should actually have completely set up by the end of the weekend. Most of our advertisers do prefer to go month to month, as that is more convenient for them. These are one time transactions and do not recur UNLESS the advertiser wants to renew when their ad is expiring. At that point, I get an email that they'd like to continue. Otherwise, the ad is allowed to expire. Having said that, however, one can easily see why the recurring payments option is a good thing. This allows me to budget for KNOWN receivables coming in monthly. It certainly will make it easier to plan for the next month's hosting fees needed. Volunteers Needed We are in need of people to help with sort/recategorization/clean up of the archive. We are in need of additional archive moderators. Here are the qualities I look for: Orderly thinker Attention to detail Ability to follow instructions, often “on the fly” Have at least 4 hours a week to give, in 2 hour increments. This would mean 2 days, at 2 hours a day. If you're interested, please email me at seawitch061@gmail.com. I'll set up a time to meet with you in IM, when it's convenient for both of us. ––––––– I cannot express enough times how thankful I am for the support that has been shown in the last few weeks. Without it, the bills would NOT have been paid. Thank you! ––––––– Please remember that this site is free to use. As such, the authors receive nothing for their efforts, except reviews. Do let them know that you read their stories, please! I'm sure they'll appreciate hearing from you!
  2. You're all set. Sorry, got caught up in at home work project.
  3. I need to remember one of these years to put up something referencing disallowed characters and where it applies. As it applies to login names, chapter titles and very likely story names. I don't think I remember it affecting anything else, but will have to look through my notes.
  4. Sure thing, I'll be looking at it after work today. Sorry for the delay.
  5. First of all, you should find many of your answers in the FAQs. Links which should help you are the following: How to Add a Story When to use the jump menu Story Codes This should be enough to get you going. If you need more help, just let us know.
  6. I've gotta say, the support that's being given to the site and staff has been positively wonderful! Thanks to all of you!
  7. First I need to look at exactly what you pointed out, which is the likelihood of multiple accounts. Of course one of us will communicate with the authors as well, and if it turns out to be plagiarism. The plagiarist will be deleted.
  8. I just checked in the table and looked at the record. What's in the text area, is the text you inserted. The title field only contains the title. The number you referenced is the story ID number. I think what may be happening is that by using the '#' symbol in your title, it may be confusing the script. So what I did is removed that from each chapter title. See if that helps.
  9. Definitely not gotten to yet, as we've not started the new sweep yet. You know, looking at that first one, that wasn't a miss, I'm thinking. Particularly with the dates on some of the stories, and when I ran a query subdomain by subdomain, section by section to FIX them all. Which tells me the author went back in and changed 'em anyway. They're all wrong.
  10. Deleted them and emailed the user.
  11. Sheesh! Show a LITTLE imagination why don't ya?? This one stole his story from an author named Avatrek. Not only did he plagiarise, it was yet ANOTHER direct copy/paste. and here we go... The original story The plagiarised story
  12. This is what you have This part is the problem First, you don't need to name the characters broadly or in any other sense here. Secondly, you have to the name the fandom itself which you're writing ABOUT. For example, if you changed it to that would be acceptable. As you can see, it clearly names the fandom you're writing about.
  13. If the story is hidden, it won't show in your profile. Not even for me. . This is why we keep track of it all in a spreadsheet so we know what to look for, and where to look.
  14. yep yep, but still, not bad

  16. Couldn't find it here, but I did find I Will Survive, which is an NCIS crossover and Miami Knights which is a CSI Miami crossover. Checked SpanderFiles (she has crossovers there too) and no luck. You might want to ask at BloodClaim.
  17. In light of some very large natural disasters which have occurred, I'm putting up links to these organizations and pinning the topic. American Red Cross AmeriCares International Federation for Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Network for Good United Way Worldwide Disaster Fund I realize things are tough for all of us. It's not easy in this economy to find extra, particularly when so many of us don't HAVE it. Having said that, there are always ways to contribute other than actual money. So please, assist where you can, if you are able. Every little bit makes a difference.
  18. fairyslayer and untamedlady, thank you. WotanAnubis- You're right. Not only would the forum not survive it, neither would the site. Having said that, that's the whole point of having complete transparency of that end of it. I keep things out in the open and readily available, this removes or at least greatly reduces the ability to hide things (not my thing ANYWAY). As to getting in to things on a money end, that had to do with monies being sent, and actions not being taken on behalf of the sender. As that was site income, I had to do something to ensure that any future transactions were properly handled, as I'd found out they hadn't been for a long enough time to create some real issues for the site. This is one of those situations where my applying real life work experience is something I see as a benefit overall. *sighs* needs to respond when NOT just waking up, B)
  19. Antaris, Thanks very much. I'm quite serious about providing information when requested. It's not hard to do, after all. You're right transparency is very important. WotanAnubis, Snark away...I'm rather thickskinned and thanks.
  20. I also checked this one's age. Wasn't able to find anything there. However, did find instances where they'd trolled elsewhere. Deleted user and stories

  22. Hey xax, Was wondering where you've been! Glad to see you're still around. You bet, could always use help in different places, as you well know. Thanks for the offer. Hey Joe, Thanks for the "atta girl". I sorely needed it.
  23. B) ah well. And here I thought I'd worked through all the open possibles. I'm hoping to have the data transferred from this thread to start work up on it all by the end of the weekend.
  24. Does direct copy/paste of someone else's work count as your own? I think not! Here is the original upload date and story (another site) And here is the copy.. I guess my eyes were mistaken and I'm not actually seeing identical words, right? B)
  25. The past two weeks In the past two weeks, I found out that the site was in serious arrears ($1800) with the hosting company. In June, Jaxxy had asked them to look into some payments which she felt belonged to the site. This belabors the point the hosting company has, in that it is up to the SITE to keep all this straight, and make sure the bills are paid. In any case, they completed an internal audit which showed that AFF did, in fact, have $1200 not applied. As soon as they found it, it was applied. There were then some donations, and some advertising monies sent directly to Nexcess. The upshot of it all, was that there was then $103.87 due to pay the balance of the August bill. After I switched the payment option to me (at Nexcess's request), there were then some more donations, and more advertising money. I paid the August balance in full on 9/1/10. I've also transferred personal funds in the amounts of $15 and $30 to it, to cover a payment made 9/1 for $30, and one due 9/27 for $12. The current balance that is strictly AFF funds is at $152.29. Unpaid staff Finally, the last thing I wanted to cover was the fact that the staff is comprised of member volunteers, who are not paid, but who do this out of site loyalty. Please remember, that while we all do try to make ourselves available to you, there are some things which make it so we're not readily available. Things such as work and college, or other obligations in real life. I want to say that without the rest of the volunteer staff, I would be lost. Thank you ladies (and gentleman), as you do make it so that I can handle other tasks when the need arises. In closing, I thank you for the continued support, in whatever manner you see fit to give it. Without the time and money donations, we wouldn't be here. Thanks again!
