  1. Last week we had new doors fitted, and since then I keep getting locked out of my house. Yesterday, I was out there for over half an hour, dogs and shopping in tow, because my key wouldn’t work. Eventually went around the neighbours, who sent her bloke around who couldn’t get the key to work either, until all of sudden, it decided to release the catch. Unfortunately, he closed the door to try it again, and we were locked out for another ten minutes. So today I’ve had the council back to say the keys won’t work (because my mother has had trouble too), and they all work this morning! It’s astonishing how people are disinclined to believe you when you explain what happened, as if you’re a moron or something who doesn’t know how to work a catch. I swear to God… *growls* To get them to do anything, I’ve had to say that I can’t leave the house for fear of not getting back in, which is perfectly true. FFS!!! I feel like screaming.

We’ve had the same issue. The front door to my building was sticking, the lock wouldn’t accept the key, and so on. I was complaining to my daft one, who is, after all, the president of the cooperative board… and who tried to mansplain how locks work to me. But they called in the locksmith, who promptly fixed it so well the handle wouldn’t work. We could get in, but we couldn’t get out.

I told the daft one he could bloody well wait for the bus when he worked late because I was fed up with a five-minute fight with the front door to be able to leave, and wasn’t exiting via the service entrance because the locksmith was incompetent. It got fixed.

*hugs* I’m glad your door got fixed.

The next person who tries to explain how to turn a key in a lock to me is going to get a whack around the lughole… figuratively speaking. Actual casual violence will probably not get me anywhere. Not these days. Well, except for a solicitor’s letter.

They’ve said they’ll replace the tumbler thing, and that they’ll just “put that one in someone else’s house” Dickhead. *growls again* They’ll only get the same complaint again, so they can do what they like.

  2. That moment when you go searching for explicit yaoi manga to read because you’ve developed a sudden addiction, and end up on a threatening webpage, then have to allow AVG to remotely access your machine that’s full of dark slash stories, and are hoping they won’t notice. Frightening. I have learned my lesson. Mostly. At least my internet history was all google searches about “what to do when AVG stops working”

I’m using 360, and I really do like it. I tripped a stupid clickbait the other day, one of those security window things, and between malwarebytes and 360, I cleared it.

-_-; I’m so glad to be on Ubuntu… I do not miss those virus filled days lurking the dark parts of the internet (well, not that dark) on a scrapped together computer running windows.

Hey, I love my dark parts of the Internet!

  3. Thank you!!! lol… I’m glad you’re enjoying Iason’s confusion. It’s quite genuine, but then he can’t imagine it possibly applying to him. He doesn’t see any double standards in his treatment of Riki, because he has his superiority thing going on, and in a way he’s right. But there are different kinds of intelligence, and Riki has had to survive on the streets. He’s incredibly tough, this one, which means the sex scene I’m writing that will happen way off in the future is turning out to be quite comical instead of dark. Even though the things Iason does there are quite cold and inhumane. I suppose that similarly, there are different kinds of stupid. They both have a lot to learn about themselves here, and each other. Glad you’re along for this ride. It’s a interesting world to play in (I have so many more toys!! *g*).
  4. Chapter Two – have fun!
  5. Yes, poor Maglor. I blame Tolkien, really. I mean on the one hand you have: “These are elves, who are immortal! Look at them! They are beautiful, shiny things!” and on the other you have: “...and he never came back among the people of the elves.” Me, I put those two things together and it’s more ominous than the US election.
  6. Wow, thank you so, so much for this! I have to admit I was a little afraid of posting it, even though it’s been mostly written for a while now. Your review reassures me, I needn’t have worried, and I thank you for that I know how this will end, I have a good idea of the reasons for all of the characters being where they are, and what will happen to them. How I will get there is an exploration. But as I wrote this, I realised a few things: One, that Maglor can’t be as he was in Fallen. Something changed in Maglor at the end of Fallen, and it’s this more than the torture he has endured which has changed the appearance of his true self. Even though, at the time of writing, I honestly believe he came to regret his twisted torture of Legolas, he at least considered it – and that is enough. Two, that while I don’t want to repeat myself, I do love echoes, and Sauron/Maglor is very much an echo of Melkor/Sauron in some respects. And, lastly, that being said, I’ve often mentioned that writing Sauron is like writing a serial killer, and I stick to that. Melkor is not the same at all. Sauron has plans and ambitions. Melkor has consuming desires, and deep down he is quite, quite insane. There’s something very maniacal about him. I’m so glad to hear your thoughts, because it seems I got across what I wanted to get across, and that makes me happy. The thing that worried me about this chapter was Sauron’s thoughts early on, about the box. As soon as he got on about it, I knew I was going to have to at least refer to it. Because he really would do that to a prisoner. He’d definitely do it to Maglor. There’s no way I could ignore it, and still have his character right. But, there’s usually something Sauron brings up that makes me want to kill him. Melkor looks to be going along the same path, if the vision he gave to Maglor at the end of the chapter is anything to go by. I’m looking forward to writing the adult Mithedhel next. This story is going to need his cheerful disposition to break it into manageable chunks. Anyway, I’ve rambled on a bit – sorry! Thank you again!
  7. Chapter One Usually I’d say have fun. Not for this. I hope you make it to the end.
  8. Great to hear from you, JayDee, and I’m glad that you’re doing a lot better workwise. I do hope you’ll get more time to write, though, and to visit the forum occasionally. You never fail to get a giggle out of me. It really hasn’t been the same without you.
  9. Hi, ILoveDexter, and thank you! Next chapter coming soon...
  10. Yay! Thank you!!! I’m amazed at how quickly I got to post in this thread! I am absolutely in love with this dynamic, and what happens to Riki. I sense there are things to indulge in here. Iason isn’t deluded; he is superior to Riki in all the ways he believes, and that’s terrible and beautiful at the same time. He’s also an android, though his brain is genetically modified, it’s still mostly human. His drives are going to be quite different, and I’m looking forward to that a lot. But, ultimately, he’s grabbed a tiger by the tail. It’s Riki’s violent passion he wants to own, and he can never do that. It’s intriguing.
  11. Thank you so much, Bronx! Thranduil can push Elrond’s buttons without even trying, lol. Perhaps, in comparison, everyone else in Middle Earth seems easy to deal with, which is why Elrond comes across as so endlessly patient all the time. I think that for elves, it would be quite easy to forget vast periods of your life on a day-to-day basis, for years and years at a time. In fact, it would probably be necessary, else you’d do nothing else with your time except for remember. Glad you liked it! I think the teacher/student thing has done all the mileage it can now… *sniffles* But I’ll always love that aspect of Elronduil
  12. Review replies, if any are due, will appear here. Also story discussion.

  14. Another extra chapter. A requested follow up to Wine and Wishes, wherein Elrond finds out it was Thranduil in his bed that night. Drink and Discovery Have fun!
  15. Thank you, CL! I’m glad you like it so far… I am over the moon at being able to post in this thread! Yay! Erm… there is a lot more to come, most of it exceedingly naughty.
  16. Currently writing extremely drunk-pretending-to-be-an-adolescent!Thranduil… and naughty!Elrond... *smirks* I might end up being the only person who likes this. *writes it anyway*

These characterisations mean nothing outside The Teacher series. Thranduil is being all cute and helpless… *giggles*

Send reading snacks… ;) I had to put off reading Clover’s shipwreck horror one until I’ve finished reading ‘All Heads Turn As the Hunt Goes By’ because they were getting tangled in my head. Now this has sneaked up on me… but wow… it’s great.

  18. Wow… thank you so much! It’s strange, but I’ve written much of my Sauron/Maglor from Maglor’s point of view, and I know my version of him so well. As well as Sauron does, so when I write a part from Sauron’s point of view, it feels all the more tragic and inevitable. Sauron (at least in my mind) would do this. He would enjoy it. He would be fascinated, and he would find Maglor’s despair beautiful. My job (for as much as I complain about what he gives me to work with) is to try and make it palatable, to make the reader feel an echo of that, and be unable to look away, because Maglor is so beautiful when he suffers. Your review indicates I had some success in that, so thank you! Also, for completely different reasons, I really needed this today. Although now I’m feeling that I should have warned you not to read before bed… *little evil laugh*
  19. Forgot to say, Chapter Three is up now. Updates will be posted weekly, all being well.
  20. Thank you so much, Clover! Wow… such compliments! *blushes* I don’t know what to say, except that I’m glad you enjoyed it, despite the lack of slashy goodness. The Harry Potter one I wrote is in a similar vein to this, but a little more atmospheric. It’s not set in the world of HP, butthe world outside it, and it too deals with AI. That too is sad. I suppose it’s something about AI that bothers me. It’s the other side of the coin from cognitive psychology. Know one, know the other. But what are we without our lifetime of experiences, without our formative years? Lonely, I think. If you take those things away, we don’t even have ourselves for company. Thank you again!
  21. So today is/was my brother’s birthday, and I’m sitting here staring into space when I should be getting ready to escape the house for Scarborough. You can draw as many lines as you want, but this stuff always leaks out from all of them, no matter how diminished you become. *sighs* I still miss you.

Ok. This has helped… I think. *goes to look at the washing machine*

Thank you, DG… I’m sorry that you go through this too. *hugs* It’s been fifteen years this year for us. It’s the gaps they leave, and not just of themselves. Relationships are shared things… when they go, they take a part of you with them.
