  1. There is a 20-pound turkey in my fridge, waiting to be cooked. I have potatoes, yellow turnips, cranberry jelly, and the fixings for herbed stuffing. There will be gravy. And Arlo Guthrie at noon. :D

JayDee, the only reason we have clean minds is because we regularly lick them, just like after eating an especially delicious plate of TG food.

JayDee, I have NEVER had a clean mind, I will, however, have a clean plate. :D

  2. And it looks like the new hard drive is doing the trick, for which I am profoundly grateful!

Just in time for the first round of edits for the republications….

I’d probably not be writing if it weren’t for the computer.  The ability to backspace, change, revise.  I’ve done some hand stuff since then, usually when I’m too far away from the computer; it’s a bit better in quality, but I wouldn’t be able keep up with it.

And here, I started writing with pen and paper...  Then to a typewriter...  Then DOS...  Now MS Word...  i really have a problem...  lol.  On a serious note, that's always good to hear, BW

"Overdose on chocolate" implies that it is possible to have too much. Let us know if that's true. :) And happy BD.

  6. It’s snowing. Why is it snowing? Did no one bother to note that spring is a mere ten days away? To whom do I complain, please?

On the bright side, my computer has finally decided to update to the latest version of Windows 10, after I manually updated Windows Update.

Not going to start a fad?  Wearing the cocktail dress and snow boots?  Might be the next greatest thing to start around…  Then all the Hollywood elite will start wearing them to the red carpets and you’ll have started a whole new…  No?  Not likely?  Okay.

Yeah.  I’ve had some minor issues on mine, but overall, I don’t mind it.  Granted, I’ve come to the conclusion I know more about my laptop than the…  techs that actually work at the repair shops around here…  So, either I know it or I ask someone who does…  lol.

Every OS has its virtues, some things can be easier in one or the other.  Privacy/security being different between the two.  Once I know how I’ll pay for it, I’m thinking about creating another desktop, so I’d have separate dedicated windows and a linux machines.

Last year I just used aluminum foil for the few gifts I gave; this year I just showed up with a Target bag of stuff and that was more than fine.

      Shadowknight, ...

Apollo, We need to get you better people.

Then again, this year I spent hours getting the text aligned for the "card" versions of my gift pictures. But I kind of enjoy that. :)

  8. For all our members who use yahoo.com, the initial run of emails triggered Yahoo’s security protocols. Some of the emails were delayed or just not delivered, because Yahoo decided we’re spammers.

If you never got the email, please let us know in the Software > Archive Tech Support thread, in the pinned post, READ ME.

The more tech-related response is that a lot of web filtering software classifies this website as “porn”, so I can see spam filters trapping email.

  12. And I’m home. I had never realized before how essential I am, since it is apparently impossible for the household to function unless I am there to be the chauffeur, cook, laundry person, and all-around dogsbody. I’m going to fire my family, although the corgi can stay.

The older I get, the more I see that my family members are human and flawed. They kinda suck actually :P I know exactly what you mean… We live 10 minutes from my grandma and she’s been really sick. She’s in the same situation as me with my grandpa. He sits in his chair all day watching TV while Grandma runs around taking care of of their big house and their hyper dog. So she’s in and out of the hospital now and I’ve been going over to take care of her place. I’m doing shopping for 2 households, cleaning for 2, taking care of my 4 cats and grandma’s dog 3 times a day. I’m not working… So i thought I’d start trying to concentrate on writing… Thank god for google docs on my phone, that’s the only way I’m able to write constantly inbetween the hospital and grandma’s house and my apartment. I’m not sure what your business entails, but when family doesn’t support your ambitions, it’s doubly discouraging. and Oh god… When they guilt you to do things, it’s super annoying! Kudos on you for having mom move in with you. Jesus, I’m so glad to escape Grandpa at the end of the day. He barks orders at me and when I try to respond, I realize he’s not even wearing his hearing aid. I have to scream at him just to get him to understand what I’m trying to say... :P I’m sorry I rambled on your status. I’m going away now!!!

    3. BronxWench

      BronxWench

Clover, I love you and words!

A dogsbody is a British term for someone who does menial tasks, the sort of drudgery that you’d ask a junior intern to do.

And most days, my mother starts with a litany of all the things I must do for her, completely disregarding the fact that I have a husband, two kids, a dog, and a business, all in addition to my trying to actually make a name as a writer. It’s been nearly 21 years of this now, and I think I might have reached my limit with her this time. If she can’t handle things on her own, I’ll arrange for an aide to look after her next time I need to travel. I have neither the time nor the temperament to be what she wants me to be.

    4. CloverReef

      CloverReef

Oh! See, I was thinking it had something to do with the corgi! I have a pug attached to my ankles 24/7, and right now, quite literally attached to my leg. Dogsbody seems like an appropriate word for that.

But damn, tending to all that while trying to carve your way through the professional author world sounds so overwhelming. And for so many years! It’s amazing, and I’m in awe, but I hope you get a reprieve or two or twenty.

  13. I have been rudely reminded that I am no longer 21, and cannot trot along with the puppy. Oh, well. At least I might get an interesting scar out of it.

Hope you did not need stitches. Pups can be quite the handful, especially in people and vehicle heavy and busy areas. Is why I confine my pitt mix to the outskirts of the two neighboring cemeteries near my place. He's too strong to handle when excited.

@CloverReef Know the feeling.  One of my cats has kidney disease, it’s a one way thing, diagnosed about a year and a half ago.  Vet suggested more and more tests, and I did push back, with, “will this change the prognosis?  Or help?”  Based on the litter box, I know it’s progressing, that his time is limited, but I’ve had a warning, I’ve tried to make sure that he’s generally happy, and dreading that final day, but it won’t be as big of a shock as that first one was, because that first one, I wasn’t expecting, it was basically out of the blue to me.  A side effect was that I had already had to start considering the burial vs cremation decision on the sick cat, pros and cons, so I did have a small head start when I did have to make that decision for the unexpected one.

      CloverReef

That’s so sad, @Desiderius Price. I lost a cat to kidney disease last year. It was very sudden and ugly. Just one night she was her usual self, knocking shit off high places and enjoying terrorizing the dog, then the seizures hit and within one minute, she was suddenly, a weak, fragile little thing. Learned a lot about the empathy of my other animals that week. I feel for you. <3
