    It’s me again.

<hr> codes don’t seem to work either.  I put in a string of hyphens to make a ruled break.

I do believe we had a function for a ruled break in the Rich Text Editor, but some of the RTE functions have disappeared since we rolled over to the new archive Portal 3.0. Unfortunately, this seems to be one of them. I’ve been able to carry over ruled breaks from Word, or Google Docs in the past, however. Copy/Paste is my friend...

I would like to edit the stories Ive written a few years ago if that’s possible. I’ve been unable to edit. Is this because of read only mode?

We’re out of read-only mode, but without your pen name or account url, I’m unable to see if you’ve reactivated the account. If you could supply either of those, I’d be happy to check and send you reactivation links if necessary. (I did check Tickler1991 as a pen name and nothing came up.)

Good morning! I’ve been thinking about writing for this site after years of inactivity, but I haven’t logged into my account in years and since then, my cable company has been bought out a few times and so the email I had with my account here no longer exists. Is it still possible to retrieve my old account? My username has sentimental value to me and I would hate to lose it. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

We can certainly help you retrieve your old account. If you can email me at tos_team@adult-fanfiction.org with the pen name, old email address, and the new email address you want to use, I can update the database with the new email address and then send you the links to reactivate your account.

I disable cookies by default and my browsing history and cache are deleted every time I close my browser. So I have doubts that this is the problem. I also don’t stay logged in, like I don’t allow my browser to save my passwords and usernames and stuff, for anything.

Unless there are somehow cookies that get stored which I’m not aware of.

By default, AFF creates a cookie every time you log in, if there isn’t one already stored. Perhaps not allowing cookies is the root of the problem? Our cookies aren’t trackers, but in the archive, they are created when you attest to being over 18, if I’m remembering correctly. (Not being a coder, I remain cheerfully mystified by the details...)

Yeah, I don’t see anything like that on my profile.

Okay, I’m just going to toss this out there, but have you cleared your browsing history and cache? And perhaps also the AFF cookies? Our cookies will reinstall when you visit the site, so that’s no problem, but sometimes cookie strings get corrupted, and browser history can store older versions of the site which might create display issues.

I’ve emailed you the links to reactivate the account.

  7. I have a tendency, when writing fan fiction, to take a fairly obscure character form canon and flesh them out, in essence creating a character where there was merely a placeholder. But as much as I create a back story, and use that obscure character in ways the original creator would never have anticipated, I always have it in the back of my head that this isn’t my character. It’s my perception of (or perhaps aspiration for) the original author’s work.

I think @Desiderius Price has a point in saying this is a step towards being able to write original characters for someone who hasn’t taken that leap before, much in the way writing fan fiction in general teaches the necessity of plot, and character arcs, and so on.

Now, from the moderation standpoint, many readers absolutely hate genderbent characters, or characters that are seriously out of character, which is why those tags do matter. Other fandoms make a cottage industry from swapping genders of main characters. Either way, as long as there’s a proper tag, readers are forewarned (if they stop to read the tags).
