By the way, before I took this final step, which the user had been warned would happen, I let slide another 2 instances, rather than the action I'm taking now. I considered the user's age (she's quite young), and HOPED that she'd finally get the hint and actually abide by the site rules and guidelines. It didn't work... Archive profile After my first deletion, this is what I had to say: "Ok, My entire account was deleted and I am not sure why. I tried to sign on and it just wouldn’t work, I searched for my story and it wasn’t their, I searched for my pen name, and it wasn’t there either, so IDK what that’s all about but I am soooo annoyed." This is what I sent after my eighth deletion: "My stories have been hidden from Adultfanfiction because they are saying I am under age and this is the fourth time this has happened. I'm not underage." Want to know when those accounts were created? Here's a list: JenMarie – registered May 17, 2009 – 15 years old DarkDesire – registered June 1, 2009 – 15 years old JenMarie – registered June 6, 2009 – 15 years old openmind – registered June 30, 2009 – 15 years old JennMarie55 – registered October 25, 2009 – 16 years old JennMarie – registered October 25, 2009 – 16 years old dontforget1 – registered December 11, 2010 – 17 years old XxScriboxX – registered July 16, 2011 – 17 years old XxScriboxX – registered May 27, 2011 – 17 years old But I didn't stop there. Afer they told me they had deleted all my hard work that I wrote while I was a minor, and posted on an adult site with no thought whatsoever to the possible legal consequences to the actual, real, human people that run the site or the owner of the site, I created another account. And another. And another. I'm also a review whore. That means I won't update unless you review. And I tell my readers lies. Yep. I tell them that I was of age, and that the site moderators "don't like me." And if I'm not telling them that, I'm telling them this: "I was over eighteen when my account was deleted (but seventeen when I made the account) and lost all of my work." See that list above? The account I'm referring to was JennMarie. I was 16, not 17. But, we already know I can't count (reference how many times I say I was deleted, and how many times I actually had been). So, then I decided that I would just violate other rules. Like flaming. That's right - I decided to flame the site. "And on a side note, I hate, hate, hate, HATE, this effing site." You know what, though? Posting here's a privilege, not a right, and I won't be able to anymore. Because not only did I do this, I was warned: "From this point, you will be monitored for any further Terms of Service and/or Content Guideline infractions. Should staff find any more, you will be Hall of Shamed for the chronic violations and permanently banned." That was after I admitted that I shouldn't have uploaded two versions of the same story. This is what I was told: "Normally, the fourth account gets you permanently banned. It certainly has any other user who persisted in returning to the site prior to their 18th birthday." And that's absolutely true. I was given a chance that all of those other children weren't, ONLY because my account was deleted after I had turned 18. And this has been addressed ad nauseum by the moderators in the forum - just go here: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/index.php?app=core&module=search&search_in=forums and type in JennMarie or Traded and you'll get a ton of threads about my inability to have consideration for the legal repercussions of my actions. I told the site admin that I was "unaware" of the risk my presence posed to the site itself while I was underage. But you know what? I tell everyone I'm a history major, and history majors have to read - a LOT. So, I should have been able to read "By entering these Archives you are stating that you are 18 years of age or older and that you are allowed to view adult material in your area." "By accessing AFF and/or creating an account I agree that I am at least 18 years of age and legally allowed to view adult related material." And I should have been able to read the entirety of this document: http://www.adult-fanfiction.org/guidelines.php I should have paid attention to the last paragraph of the Terms of Service: "You understand that if any of the above requirements are violated that your account and/or submissions are subject to being hidden, edited, deleted, or being taken control of by the administrators of the site, without notice. You understand that your ability to return to the site after these actions are taken is solely at the discretion of the site's staff and is not subject to discussion." But I didn't. And those failures are my own, no matter how much I want to blame the staff for them. I received a warning that I would be banned, something that in the past has only ever been sent to still underage children to warn them to keep away from the site if they want the privilege of being here once they're adults. So because I've decided that I'm entitled to break the rules and regulations of the site, and because I've decided that their warnings meant nothing, I'm not allowed here anymore. I'm permanently banned. You'll never be able to read my works here again. Ever. Any flames in the forum or to TOS or admin mail about the banning of this user can and will result in repercussions on the flamer's account. Any flames sent to staff members individually will be addressed in the same manner as well. Take note of the Terms of Service you agree to by accessing the site (no flaming is allowed), and understand that those regulations are universally and equally applied.1 point -

Guest... Although I highly doubt you'll read this, but I do hope that you will. I've stayed out of this discussion, because I don't know anything about JennMarie, and I am not a staff member, so I have nothing to do with the deletion or removal of authors and their content. But your unbelievably childish post is just too much to ignore. First of all, 99% of the people on this site are writers, so they understand very well about writing and losing stories. And yes, by the people here, I do mean the staff members, and the bosses that are responsible for the site. As for JennMarie being Loyal and Liking this site... Please! Don't make me laugh. If she'd had an ounce of any kind of loyalty, she would have fucking sat on her little hands and waited until she was 18 before posting her stories. But she didn't. She thought she was special and would therefore get away with posting her stories before her 18th birthday. And she did not do this once, or twice... she did it six fucking times! It is a legal matter if a minor is on this site, and therefore the staff members are legally obliged to delete them. It is done not only to protect the site, but also the living, breathing people who own and run this site, free of charge, and with volunteer work! Read that again! They run this site, free of charge for members and maintain it with volunteer work. And because of kids, who can't follow the rules, they are put at risk. And that tells me that those kids are not Loyal or Like this site a whole lot. Nor do you for that matter. Get off your high horse and read the rules, and then reconsider your words. If JennMarie's computer crashed, then she either should have had the forethought to keep a copy of her stories on an external drive, or gotten herself one, and copy/pasted her stories onto one, from a computer that wasn't hers. I mean, she must have friends, or have access to public computers at a library or school. Blaming AFF for the loss of her stories is childish and petty. As for the staff being rude and abrasive, well, they don't exactly get treated with a great deal of respect much of the time. Just read your post again, Guest. Was that very polite. Were most of the posts before yours very polite? Honestly, the staff got a barrage of abuse from a bunch of kids that just did not want to understand that this was a serious breach of ToS, and then as good as blamed AFF for JennMarie losing all her stories. The staff were bending over backwards to provide people with contact information for JennMarie, so her fans could get in touch with her, and ask for her stories back and tell her she was welcome back if she wanted to, since she had turned 18. And let me tell you something. The staff gets an extraordinary amount of shit from people who can't follow the ToS, and the staff has to politely ask them to conform to the rules. This can be as simple as correcting a disclaimer, and yet they get yelled and screamed at by little shitheads who think the rules don't apply to them. Thankfully almost all of the writers follow the rules, and are very patient and polite when needing guidance to fix their disclaimers and other minor ToS violations. But there are always those rotten apples, you know. As for the Hall of Shame, that is supposed to serve as a warning, as well as a deterrent for Plagiarists! There are very few members of Hall of Shame that have not been caught plagiarizing others. AFF has a very strict policy against plagiarism, and they do actively monitor such behavior. Maybe you should read Hall of Shame before you jump to conclusions. It is a very imaginative and funny way to warn people not to try that on this site. And finally, what you said about driving "good" authors away from this site... Seriously? The staff has been doing a bang up job this whole year, just like they did last year, and the year before that, and every years since they took over from the substitute staff that were (not) running this site for a few years before. And they have not been petty and abrasive or derogatory or childish at all... yeah, sure, they've had their cranky moments, but wouldn't you too, after having shit thrown at you for weeks because someone got deleted for NOT Following The Rules!! And they have refused to stoop down to this level, in many many cases, and that's why I decided to do it. Someone needs to stand up for them. And I don't care if I'll get spanked for it. It's worth it. I really, really want to point fingers, but I won't, but I can say that I know of at least one author who showed far more derogatory and childish behavior than anyone on AFF, after she was banned. Also, just the fact that you have specifically mention that you are not JennMarie or any other author who's been banned, makes it so much more likely that you are. Not to mention that if you've been lurking on this site since 2002, then you either started lurking way before you were old enough, or you're being seriously childish for your age. *draws deep breath, and lets it out slowly* And that, Guest, is how you rant!! *exit downstage right*1 point -

As stated many, many times before JennMarie was deleted for being underage at time of sign up. Not once, but multiple times. She was well aware of the requirement for being 18 or older to join and use the archive. This is NOT a new policy, the age requirement. It's been in place since the site started in 2002. That she consistently flouted that rule is, quite frankly, her issue. That I deleted her content and profile is not an issue, but simply something that HAS to be done with underage users as they're found. Perhaps you've not read the prior posts, but you know, these children who do this don't give a rat's ass about the consequences that their presence can have on the real people behind the site. Which is EXACTLY why we're so aggressive about finding and deleting them and their content. To PROTECT the real people behind the site. As to dextrousleftie, read this topic. As Apollo pointed out in her answer, there was a valid reason behind the deletion. We don't play favorites, as I'm sure you can see. There is a Terms of Service in place for a reason. Users who sign up agree to ABIDE by the ToS and Content Guidelines. If someone has continuing difficulties with following that, then yes, eventually they can and will be removed. It is patently unfair to the bulk of the users who do their damnedest to follow and do what they agreed to at sign up, for us to not deal with those who choose not to, repeatedly.1 point -

Actually, the email that we provided is valid as that is the email address from which we received her rather whiney email about being disciplined for violating our ToS, so if you aren't getting a response then she is probably off sulking. If you are getting a error, then she must have deleted it and we have no further contact information for her. As the owner, I can emphatically state that while I understand that many users would like her to return, we will not be contacting her to ask, even on behalf of users, to return. She violated our ToS with complete disregard for the possible legal consequences I could face by being on the site underage - While it may seem prideful, I refuse to send that type of email to someone who apparently couldn't care less if I paid huge legal fees, ended up with a criminal record, or even in jail.1 point -

She was deleted for registering when she was SIXTEEN YEARS OLD. She KNEW that was the risk she took at time of registration. All of them do, unless they're stupid, which these kids really are not. It's very clearly stated in the ToS that you must be 18 years of age or older. There are splash pages in each subdomain which clearly state you must EIGHTEEN or older. Not SIXTEEN. The stories were all posted BEFORE her 18th birthday, not after. Because they were posted before she was 18, WE are legally obligated to remove all her data from the site that was posted before then. PERIOD. It's irrelevant what age she is now. What's relevant is what she was at REGISTRATION and time of posting. NOWHERE was this user ever told she could not create another account, since she is now of age. NOWHERE was this user ever told she could not repost her work. On that note, the reason she's not created another account, and done exactly that, is that she was careless with her data. THIS IS NOT A DATA REPOSITORY FOR BACK UP PURPOSES. Backing up one's data OFFSITE is the user's responsibility, not the site's. WE DO NOT KEEP COPIES OF IT FOR BACKUP PURPOSES FOR INDIVIDUALS. Am I yelling a bit in my response? You bet I am. You know WHY? Everything that I explained AGAIN in this post, has been explained previously, several times over. Both here and in email with the user. That people are choosing to not understand plain English, is not my problem. Further, I will not allow this argument as to whether or not this action should have been taken to continue. Users under 18 have NEVER been allowed on the site. The fact that many of 'em slipped under the radar for so many years, is a staff failure, yes. However, it is not THIS staff's failure. WE are in the process of cleaning up 3 1/2 years of no moderation of any kind. Particularly under age users. To date, I've processed 2600 old minor accounts. Those are registrations prior to December 2008, by the way. If you look at what we do on that basis, listed here and here, you'll understand a bit more. If you read those links and still choose to not understand why, it will be because you want to argue.1 point
