    We need the url to your profile url in the Archive, the user IDs are not unique across the Archive if I remember correctly.

    We don’t allow previews generally. The ten line rule was implemented for the Challenges and Requests forum, because we had a bout of users posting “examples” or parts of whole chapters for the challenges they were issuing or writing for. And by line I generally mean the amount of text that fits in the text box from left to right. As in, the text that I have put here so far is now “two lines and a half”. But I decided to allow for the time being, while we are still in Read Only mode, previews in the Promote a Story forum as well, with the cut off being 35 lines. This was only allowed to let our users give their readers something to look forward to, really, while we are waiting for the Archives to be back up and running. As soon as users can start posting on the Archives again, I will disallow story content in the Forums again. And story content is not allowed anywhere else in the forum, save for those ten lines in the C&R forum. And it can be from wherever you want, beginning, middle or end of your story. Just think of it as a teaser trailer, if that makes sense. Just anything you want that you think might make your readers happy, or keep them excited for the rest of your writing.     Thank you so much for that, Donkingkong. I know that before all of these attacks we had a donation link in the Archives, and all donations went towards hosting costs and such things. But I don’t know what the status of that is at the moment. We’ll have to ask @DemonGoddess or @manta2g or @BronxWench about that, I’m afraid. But I am certain, whether it be now, or after we’re back up and running, all donations would be so greatly appreciated. We’re all volunteers here, so all donations go towards the site in full. We do not get paid for maintaining the site.

    Uhm, our coder is a professional coder. She just has a real life job too that pays the bills, and that comes first.

    Thank you for that. We had to implement the 10 line rule in the Requests and Challenges forum, because of the disclaimer and copyright issues, but haven’t really needed to enforce it elsewhere. But I figured that little previews could be allowed while we’re in Read only mode. I’ll have to add that rule to the Forum TOS eventually.

    I’m unfortunately going to have to ask you to reduce the amount of story content in the above post. We can’t allow story content in the forums, due to disclaimer and copyright issues. But, because of the archives being down, we will allow story content of up to 35 lines (instead of the usual 10 lines) of text. That means lines of text, so if a sentence needs a line or two extra to finish then that’s fine. So, please reduce the story content above to within that limit. Willow Darkling, forum moderator.

    Dagian is right. The site is still in read only mode, but coder is working very hard on getting us back up. The hacker has been relentless and every time our coder has come close to getting us back up, they attack again and we have to shut everything down again. But our coder and admin are working on it, and hopefully we’ll be up and running again soon. Thank you for your understanding and patience, and most of all for your continued support of the site.       New Year’s Eve was quiet, and I’ve been spending New Year’s Day catching up on laundry and configuring the new computer, which is replacing my 10-year old Dell. (Yes, I finally surrendered and admitted I can’t tweak it anymore without replacing pretty much everything inside it, which led to the realization that it was cheaper to just buy a new computer… :lol:  )

      Sleeping aside, mostly playing the “game” this holiday break – sometimes it’s better to play it through and tire of it (eventually), though this does mean no story updates from me.

    Whoops! I’m pretty sure that this should not be the case, but hang tight @BronxWench will be online (hopefully) a little later, and she can check the records since I don’t have access to those. But as far as I can see there’s been no action by the staff that would cause your profile to be removed. I’m tagging @DemonGoddess and @manta2g here too, so they can check on the Archive, in case there’s been another attack. I really hope we’ll have this sorted very soon for you.     Thank you for the clarification I just wanted to be proactive since you mentioned a copy, not meant to be an accusation of any sort. It does happen that people offer saved copies, and we do try to make sure that doesn’t happen. Best of luck in your search. And please, if anyone does know this story and what happened to it, let this user know. Just remember we don’t allow links to places where stories have been posted by anyone other than the original author either. Willow Darkling, forum moderator.

    Just to remind all users of the rules proactively: We do not allow any requests for, or offers of saved copies of stories on our sites. Any and all requests and offers of that nature will be deleted on sight. Willow Darkling, forum moderator.

    You should always keep your stories as files on your computer. I use Word, simply because it’s what I’m used to.
