Guest Knorg Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Wanna talk about Sigs, avatars, user names and the like? Here's the place for you:) Says the subforum description, and there's threads for explaining the first two but not the third! A shamefully missed opportunity for a bit of self-centred rambling if you ask me. If your pen-name on AFF is different, you can explain that too! I guess I better kick off this mess then... Knorg is my forum username and my AFF pen-name. It's also written as Knorg Knorgsson in some places, because some places don't like single names (eg email). Knorg is Gronk backwards. Gronk, I found later, turns up all over the place. There's a nerd usage for it, and a street artist in San Francisco and so on... but Gronk was, for me, the furry little metal eating alien medic (later changed into a less successful furry little metal eating alien psychopathic hard ass by Garth Ennis) from the Strontium Dog comic series which started in the late 1970s and continued for years. There's a picture of Gronk here if you're interested. Anyway, for many years when I needed to enter a name for a computer game or whatever I used Gronk. When I put my first dirty story online I needed a name to do it with. So I reversed Gronk to Knorg (pronounced Norg) and thereby had a name. I was pretty stumped for ideas, to be honest. Figured Knorg could be the dark mirror version of Gronk, maybe. Bah. Knorgsson is just for a little Scandinavian flavour. How about y'all? Quote
Guest Adara Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 Hmm, this an interesting thread. Here goes: My email, well, I've used Morridgan for ages. Morrigan is actually a Celtic goddess. (Goddess of Lust, Rage and War to be precise.) I decided to add the "d" simply because it came out more like, "Morrid" and well, I liked that. Eventually when I started to RP, I developed a personality for "Morridgan" (I didn't make her out to be a goddess or anything, can't and won't God-mode ) and went on to develope her with help from other RPers. Eventually, "Morridgan" had children, Adara being one of them. She was far more balanced than her "mother." In any case, I began to use Adara as my user name for pretty much everything. Giovanni stems from Adara's "father" and well it became a part of the user name as well. Adara has different meanings in different cultures. Beauty, unblemished pearl, darkened, are just some of them. Adara eventually was the character who inspired me to begin writing out a story, rather than just rely on Rp to get my creative needs filled. That's pretty much it! EDIT: To add to the "Morridgan" e-mail note, the Morridgan_2001 came from adding my HS graduating year. Yes, yes, I know, I'm super creative! LOL Quote
redsliver Posted January 6, 2007 Report Posted January 6, 2007 I was 13 a friend of a friend had a BBS thing going on with which we traded porn and by we I mean some guy had porn and shared access to his hardrive. Anyway we made up names, there was PunkStar, DannysMomHasAHugeVagina, Gunnz and more. I tried Sliver after the Nirvana song but it had already been taken, I wanted to get on the BBS to download a couple pictures of some nameless redhead girl that I had seen a few pics of and so I stuck Red in front of Sliver. Nanaea Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Well, the story behind mine is quite simple. I wanted something that wasn't associated with me in any way. That ruled out my perfect, uber mommy persona as well as my favorite PC persona. I decided I wanted to assume the identity of a goddess, so I looked around at the sites I intended to haunt and found that many of my choices were already taken at one place or another. So I started researching more obscure pantheons and came across Nanaea. ANAITIS ('Ai/cu-m), an Asiatic divinity, whose name appears in various modifications, ... or Nanaea ... Her worship was spread over several parts of Asia, such as Armenia, Cappadocia, Assyria, Persia ... In most places where she was worshiped we find numerous slaves of both sexes consecrated to her, and in Acilisene these slaves were taken from the most distinguished families. The female slaves prostituted themselves for a number of years before they married. These priests seem to have been in the enjoyment of the sacred land connected with her temples, and we find mention of sacred cows also being kept at such temples. ... From this and other circumstances it has been inferred, that the worship of Anaitis was a branch of the Indian worship of nature. It seems, at any rate, clear that it was a part of the worship so common among the Asiatics, of the creative powers of nature, both male and female. The Greek writers sometimes identify Anaitis with their Artemis ... and sometimes with their Aphrodite.... Sounded good to me, and joy of joy's - the name was not in use at any of the fanfic sites that I wanted to register with, so I made it my pen name. When I went to register for Yahoo! 360° 'Nanaea' was taken so I created a full name "Nanaea Aine Naven" and used 'nanaeanaven' for that as well as my new LJ account. That's pretty much it. Quote
Squallfan Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 Well, I absolutely love horror movies, so that explains my username. My penname show's my love for one of my favorite Final Fantasy character's, Squall Leonhart. Yes, it's sad, I wish he was real. Quote
EveKnight75 Posted January 7, 2007 Report Posted January 7, 2007 I happened to be watching the end of the episode A Room at the Top on the Brady Bunch when signing up for the e-mail account. When you read the closing credits very quickly, the words can blur together and the clearest words are the first and last ones. The middle line read "Eve Plumb... Christopher Knight". I read it as Eve Knight. That ID was already taken, so I chose to add a number. In the last scene of the episode, Cindy is calculating when she'd get the attic room and came up with 1975. So I added "75" to the ID. Pretty simple, really. It happens to be a pleasant coincidence that Jan/Peter happens to be my favorite Brady Bunch ship, and that according to the series, they happen to turn 16 in the year 1975 - a typically important age when it comes to growing up mentally, emotionally, and sexually. So basically, I chose my username at random, but it fits me very well and I've grown to love it. Quote
Iggy_lovechild Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 At the time that I started using the screen name I was about 17 and obsessed with glam rock, adrogyny, and gender-bending. For a while the screen name had actually been "Iggy Pop's Lovechild" mostly because...well, Iggy Pop is a god, right? Eventually, it dawned on me that it was really too long for most places (and really quite stupid). So I changed it to "Iggy Lovechild". When I first started using it it was mostly to make my gender more questionable as an author because I'm forever paranoid of being judged on that basis. Eventually it just became a part of me. I write only under this name, both fanfics and otherwise, unless I have a desire to hide my identity or seperate myself from the stories (I did when I briefly wrote for uber-noncanon, much maligned IY pairing Sess/Kagome). Quote
Rezalda Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 The story behind my username is kind of boring. As I got more and more into the videogame Valkyrie Profile, I soon realized that I wanted to write adult fanfiction. The desire only grew when I realized that the Valkyrie Profile section was sadly lacking; when I signed up, only six had been written. But the first "adult" fanfics I came up with were different stories, each one involving a character named--you guessed it--Celia. For some reason, I felt I had to justify writing about Celia all the time by calling myself "Celia." I later realized that just sounds Mary Sue-ish, but I'd already decided on a pen name. "CeliaSpringfield" is my username on Literotica. "Springfield" was random. I chose it as a last name when signing up for a Yahoo! account. I chose my LJ name, "celialove," because "celia" was obviously taken and "celiaspringfield" didn't fit. And that's it, really. Quote
NightScribe Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Since I have to *ugh* work during the day, I only have evenings and weekends to write. If I'm still awake, I tend to get more creative as the midnight hour approaches. I write at night, basically, but I like the term scribe, hence NightScribe. Plus, to me, the night implies darkness and a bit of mystery and I always like to put dark elements in my stories. Quote
Guest Alien Pirate Pixagi Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Well, "Pixagi" is a bit of a twist between two words, one of them being "pixie" (as a few of you seem to have figured ), which is my RL nickname. The "Alien Pirate" bit I tacked on later as I grew more and more love for both sci fi (aliens and interseller travel, specifically) and pirates. Mix it together and what have you got? Alien Space Pirates. Love. As for my pen name, Caylin Webster is part of my actual name and what I will likely legally change my name to in the future. At least, it's the name I'll be using when I finally get work published and the like. The only other name I currently use is Coinin on deviantART. "Coinin" is gaelic for rabbit (wich is also a clue as to the second half of my penname!) I find it rather interesting that for a person as physically (and as I'm told, characteristically) rather androgynistic, I tend towards rather gender specific names. Probably because my given name is a traditionally male name and I've always been mistaken for a guy. Quote
Guest .:Deathbringer:. Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Well, as for Deathbringer, I loooooooooooooooooooooooooove Elfen Lied. And Lucy is a total badass in real life, dude. So, I just figured I'd make up a name that reminded me of her absolute kickassness. 1337 Ninja Girl is going to stay my AFF.Net usename for a while. That's because L337 Ninja Girl, with an 'L', is my XBox 360 GamerTag. And right now, I'm kicking ass and taking names on Gears of War. And that's the main reason why my AFF.Net tag will stay that way. Just in case anyone wanted to add me... X3 Quote
AntiDolorifico Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 Antidolorifico means painkiller in Italian... there isn't really anything else to it, except that I am (slowly but surely) learning Italian and thought the word itself was very pretty and had a nice flow to it. Quote
Neito Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 It's a name a friend gave me. It's kinda what my real name (nate) would be pronounced if it where japanese. Quote
Melrick Posted January 26, 2007 Report Posted January 26, 2007 I wanted to come up with a name for a character in a horrendously bad fantasy story many moons ago, so I came up with Melrick. Quite original, I thought, but have since found it's not original. Hmph. Quote
Hermione Malfoy Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 I used to be Bella Snape because when I first signed on AFF I thought I'd be writing a few Bellatrix Lestrange and Severus Snape fanfics but I haven't... so that's why my email is bellasnape1. Then I began to write and enjoy reading Lucius Malfoy and Hermione Granger stories; and they seem to be my most heavily reviewed pairing; plus I've been put in Slytherin so many times; and I even did a Which HP family are you? And I turned out to belong to the Malfoy family... and Hermione is the girl I take after the most. So, Hermione Malfoy is what it is from now on. Quote
Guest Big Samurai Posted February 2, 2007 Report Posted February 2, 2007 The ego is big. The samurai fetish is big. There you have it. Big Samurai! *insert heroic music from obscure super robot anime* Quote
Guest echtrae Posted February 20, 2007 Report Posted February 20, 2007 Echtrae is old Irish. It means outing and is frequently translated to adventure. In particular, it is a trip to the otherworld. The otherworld is frequently populated by the sidhe, or supernatural figures (i.e. gods and faeries). To me, it simply means the journey that is life. Quote
AmyMcClair Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Amy McClair is a character that my friend and I created when we were in junior high. This character was based on me, thus I write by this name. Useless Trivia: Ann McClair, Amy's sister, is based on the above-referenced friend. Quote
Sin Acies Posted May 27, 2007 Report Posted May 27, 2007 I wanted a name no one else used *ever*, but something that was also easily shortened and remembered. Sin is obvious, I suppose. Acies is Latin meaning keeness, edge, sharpness, battle-line, battlefield. I thought that worked well. The Edge of Sin, the Sharpness of it. The battle-line- like I'm never quite sure which side I'm on. Could be this one, could be that one, could be both, lol. And since few people use Latin I can use it in every forum and archive I've come across. Which, as I said, was the main goal. Who needs nine pennames? Quote
Guest WFK Posted May 31, 2007 Report Posted May 31, 2007 Well, actually, this was my kiddie name when I was a wee one still on Fanfiction.net. Then I became 18 and happened upon AFF.NET and realized a side of me, I never knew existed. Or at least pretended didn't exist.... It's all together, Kitsune of the White Flame....(a story on mediaminer.org from my younger days....good ideas (YYH/INU corssover....TERRIBLE story! lol) For lack of a better name! AND....it sort of sounds like JFK, and that's always rolled off of my tongue. Quote
madlodger Posted June 1, 2007 Report Posted June 1, 2007 madlodger I came up with it a few years ago when needed a name. It fulfills my personal username requirements: 1) One of a kind or rare. 2) Ageless. Does not represent current interests. Can be used forever. 3) Easy to remember. Hopefully:) 4) Easy to spell. 'mad' is one syllable and 'lodger' is two. Some people still spell it as 'loger', unfortunately:( 5) Neutral. Does not disclose any personal info. 6) It is a disclaimer in itself, hehe! I was flipping through Concise English Dictionary looking for ideas. All usernames made of one single word were taken by others. A word 'mad' popped at me. I decided to combine it with another and make a unique name. After few crappy attempts a word 'lodger' had suddenly occurred in my mind and hence madlodger was born. P.S. I wonder how the name 'Madapple' came to live, ha! This is my only name on net and it will remain unchanged. Quote
ladydeathfaerie Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 mine is actually because of two seperate entities. i was positively mad for the Lady Death comics when they first came out and, truth be told, i always loved the art in them. Lady D just rocks because she's this serious badass with some monster personal issues and.... huge tracts of land! the clothes are just impossible, too. since i couldn't have just the name Lady Death, i decided to tack on faerie, which is a mythical being i've always found appealing. so i combined all three and presto. it shortens up easily, too. ldf Quote
DarkCabaret Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 Dark because sometimes when I feel depressed I remark on my moods being dark. Cabaret because life is a cabaret baby live it up! Quote
Leonhart29 Posted July 1, 2007 Report Posted July 1, 2007 I've been on the forum for a while and for some reason I've never thought to explain my user name. I'm a huge RPG nut... and Final Fantasy VIII happens to be number one in my book. Squall Leonhart is my all time favorite character - so when the game came out I stood in line and got me a copy - since then I've been Leonhart29 on just about everything - from my email accounts to my handles. The number 29 is my lucky number - every time it comes up in the lottery or on a scratch-off I win something (well almost every time) and Mom used to tell me that I was conceived on the 29th time she had "relations" with my Dad - I don't know if I believe that - but it's what I've been told.
