      Great to hear.

Small thing I noticed, not a serious concern right away. Under the Television category, the tab title (forgot what it’s officially called), is actually “Telivision”. Like I said, not a hugely important thing to fix immediately.

Thanks for catching that. :) fixed now. I rely a lot on spell check since English is not my first language…. *Wanders over to the non-english french section*

  4. It is slowly creeping back to life. I don’t have a definite eta, but I’ve been on a roll of releasing sections every few days. Today, stories along with the ability to manage recommendation and current reading just rolled out. Next is reviews, and then the story manager (Authors have been waiting on this one).
  5. As I’ve said before, you will have those functions soon enough. In other words, sit tight, and it will be available when I am done with it. Right now, you can only add and remove authors.
  6. url? The user control panel is now directly integrated in with your profile when logged in.
  7. Fiction portal 1.0 was written in php 4, 2.0 was done in php5 and ported to php 7 for the forums with bare bones changes to retain functionality. Fiction portal 3.0 is being done in php 8(current). The biggest issue for 2.0 is that security functions in php 5 were depreciated in php 7. The injection attack only affected the stories tables. Every thing else was untouched. We assumed the worst that they had managed to bypass login requirements. Thankfully that was not the case. The attack was done via the archive search engine which only queries the stories table. If you are really worried reset your password, that will log you out everywhere and allow you to secure your account. Whom ever this hacker is they are not fond of AFF. While in read only mode there have been a few attempts to overwhelm the server and crash it. That slows down my progress 😞.
  8. Until I get the story manager, you will not be able to post anything
  9. You’ll be able to add and remove from both soon enough. It will no longer be a manual process, much like with favourite authors it will be a simple click of a button.
  10. It’s a bit of a slow roll-out, as stated in the news most of this new look and functions were planned for a November roll-out, the injection attacks forced the schedule forward, so every section gets tested then released as fast as possible. And as members report any bugs or issues, those are fixed before rolling out the next section.
  11. I have two kittens, they do not leave my desk alone. If I forget to hide my keyboard, it leads to issues…. Typos being a minor thing compared to some stuff.
  12. Found a typo in the code for current reading and a bad story title that was messing with output. Check it over now.
  13. Registration, login, and password reset are all live and have been tested for the archive. if you can’t log in, you’ve either mistyped your e-mail or have not activated your account from the activations e-mail.
  14. The archives are slowly creeping to life! The New indexes are roling out with some changes I’m sure authors will like.

  15. Hi could you give me some examples of those broken links? I’ve seen a few submising to recomemended and current reading where the archive is set wrong and thus become broken. I’m in the process of simplifying how it is done, much how recommended authors and added and removed now.
  16. Archive repairs & recode are sitting at around 50% done.  Archives are next followed by the story manager.
If you like what you see so far please donate to the site and if you feel generous say it’s a bribe for me to work faster :P .

Please make sure you’re taking breaks and getting sleep okay? I know the job is probably ungodly long.

I’m taking care of myself, pushing through as best I can :)
And I still have my day job to worry about. (I get a decent nap on the bus durng the commute there and back.)
I have two carrots hanging at the end of my stick, the first is my winter sewing and the other is to finish fixing my 3d printer.

I’ve been poking around where you direct me to.  So far, everything is looking and working great!

  17. Took a short break as I’ve noticed a lot of invalid avatars in the user profiles.

Aw, that’s why I never did the avatar, the image link thing instead of actually storing the image into the database.

  18. Patching is done, we are out of read only mode. Backups have been made.
  19. We had a serious set of injection attacks on the archives Tuesday, September 13. This affected story titles and disclaimers being turned into site redirects. To maintain security and protection of our users, the archives are in read-only mode till we figure out how it was done and patch it. If you posted a story or an update on Sept 13th, it has been lost due to data restoration (backup from Sept 13, 1am). We apologize for any inconvenience caused by this, but have deemed the read-only mode necessary for the time being. Update : We are slowly rolling out of Read-Only Mode. Originally we were going to jut patch it, but it was decided it would benefit members more to roll out Fiction Portal 3.0 which as planned for our 20th anniversary in November. Anywhere you see the new layout, it means that area is no longer in read-only mode. Fiction Portal 3.0 has some much requested features, changes, and some perks for those who have donated to the site. Changes: Improved Navigation Mobile Compliant Persistent Logins Fixed password reset bug Fixed Registration activation bug Upgraded visual text editor Features: Inline profile editing Story Manager shows up when logged in to the right of archives in side menu (green icon) Members directory now features top 50 Recommended Authors. (Recommending Authors now has an impact.) Members directory & profiles will show Donors. (A thank you for supporting the site all these years) Stories now show recommendations and currently reading counts Archives will feature Top Recommended Stories and Top Currently Reading One button to add and remove a story from recommended or currently reading lists. Donor perks: Featured in the members directory and profiles Extended upgraded visual text editor for chapters and reviews. (Extra formatting options!)
  20. Pen names restored, took a few hours since there are a ton of members. if they aren’t current feel free to edit them. The attack didn’t get far, only managing to change pen names, user sensitive data is all encrypted so don’t have to worry about it..
  21. It is fixed, replaced recaptcha with a different verification which is more people friendly but not bot friendly.
  22. So I know I have been a ghost and there were updates to be done but…… Life has been a pain in the ass with my regular work place going out of business and the chaos going on because of it. Still very burnt out and only recently have I had enough function in my hands to type properly. I hope everyone can be a bit more patient and I will do my best to get the rest of the updates done as I get time when not a zombie in pain.

Me, personally, I’d rather you were fully functioning first. :)

Life has been treating me much the same, chronically short handed at work, loads of stupid shit to do FOR work, which means being overtired and not daring to venture into the db itself for those kinds of repairs. :(

  23. That is completely possible and will be added to my to do list. right now I’m still debugging the archive skin so that it dose not cause weird draw issues.
  24. It is nice to be able to see again after going almost 3 weeks of having to rely on a 6 year old persecution that gave me a max of 18 inch radius of viability. Now to get back to tackling the css and other code bits for the mobile friendly skin.

      You are quite awesome!

Digital implants? Now I am imagining bionic eyes… perhaps they could add some additional useful functions, like a zoom or a record capability. That would be amazing. Then all the selfie people really would be like Narcissus, forever staring into their mirrors.

Anyhow, I am glad you are here again. :)

Your native language isn’t even English?  Yet another example of a foreigner writing better English than many native English speakers.  Interesting how that happens so much.  Interesting or depressing.
