Happy April Fools Day! (Way more important than some dude getting in a three day sleepy weekend a couple of millennium ago...)

Jefferey dragon prints: 7777!
-
Ooh, good luck for you today?
-
Awesome!!!!
-
I tried catching all four digits at 5 and 6, but my luck had me catching the counter right before and right after. This time, I managed to catch it right on the nose
Certainly, don’t slow down reading/viewing just to accommodate this, I definitely like seeing the dragon prints going upward.

Weird, I didn’t expect that getting the ashes back would help, but it is, a bit. Obviously, I wish I had the living cat instead, just a subtle measure of peace. He’s on the table that I’ve used as a desk for years, appropriate because he used to lay/nap underneath it a lot.

They (the vet) did bring him out right afterwards, I went along with it, so I did spend a few minutes afterwards, he was still fairly warm. I didn’t know how long to spend, apart from grieving and apologizing, wishing for it to change. It was tough, because an hour earlier, I was assessing his condition, with some interaction, not realizing that’d be the *last* interaction I’d really have with him. At least I was trying to save him, even though I didn’t make it fast enough (unfortunately, there’s no pet-ambulance around here).
-
I know what it's like to grieve a pet. My stepfather's doberman was buried in the back yard after she died. We didn't even get the chance to bring her to the vet. He found her outside already dead. I still miss her a lot. I give my condolences. It's really hard, especially the first few days or weeks after losing them.
-
Yes, just finished writing episode nine. I’ll give it the usual cool down, so unless something else happens, most likely post it next weekend.

It’s definitely a different format and burnout is a killer fr. On the other hand, I kind of enjoy having a weekly turnover. It’s neat, like running a TV show.
-
I did an experiment with the Repair Guy, cutting the chapter lengths down and not fussing so much over perfect prose, as a result, I was pushing out updates every day or two. I deliberately wanted to keep that fast to write because it was a backstory that, while needed, I didn’t want to dwell on.
-
YES, trying to strike that balance between expediency and quality, because in my other novel-length stuff, I tend to agonize over drafts for YEARS. I used to do 10k+ chapters, but I’ve cut it down to the 5k – 7k range.
-
About a month ago, I had started playing a particular game, I had gotten really engrossed into it, some games are like that. Did it distract me enough to not realize my cat needed help sooner? I hope not, but I can’t divorce the thought. I certainly can’t bring myself to play the game anytime soon, maybe never. The upshot, though, is I am writing on Jefferey again, so maybe that’ll soothe me?

@Avaloyuru Don’t forget to hug your dogs.
In this case, the vet did mention that his teeth needed to be cleaned, so I knew that needed attention. I even managed to get that scheduled for this Tuesday...but then I obviously had to cancel.
-
Yep! Hug them all the time! They are all I have. My dogs sleep with me at night and when I take naps. They have medical conditions and the meds are costly, thankfully there are human meds that work just as good and cost half the price.

Today really, really sucks. Lost a cat today

Sorry to hear.
. I know the feeling all too well.

I’m going to try to focus a bit on writing, see if that helps at all. I did visit a friend last night on the way home, simply because I knew I couldn’t hold it together. That did help. But then, get home, and, well, cat’s no longer here. I generally don’t cry, rarely get emotional, but this time … it’s a very raw, very real wound
-
btw, the next Jefferey episode might start off a bit dark….

Taxes are filed

I’m constrained every year as the critical forms aren’t ready until mid-February. So, once they were done, I filed ASAP. I’ll be dropping the state taxes into the mail this morning (because the software wants $19.99 to e-file the state, I can hit print and use a stamp).
-
I’ve pretty much switched to paperless notifications, so most of my information reaches me by Jan 31. My state requires e-filing, so that’s as free as the Feds.
-
I’d e-file if it were free...yes I would!
-
Unfortunately, didn’t get #8 finished tonight… maybe this week. If not, next weekend (which might also be a 3-day weekend, crossing my fingers).
-
Hmmm… I can move this scene from #8 back to #7….. Keeping it in #8 makes for a better cliffhanger, but moving it to #7 makes #7 a tad more complete. Oh, the debate I’m having with myself.

@Wilde_Guess Yep, that’s why I’m debating now, before I post. I’ll need to resolve this before I post either 7 or 8. Yesterday, I had moved it to #7, however, based on tone it belongs in #8. So, this morning, I moved it back. After all, a cliffhanger is typically an incomplete scene.
-
True, that. Also, the move can “require” another 4k of writing to more fully develop an idea. That’s not a bad thing, but can confuse the reader if you do it after the chapter(s) were originally posted.
-
That was the #5 debacle, about 2.5k but same thing. I try to adhere to the principle that a reader shouldn’t have to re-read an episode to understand things, though, of course, that can be unavoidable at times with a work-in-progress. Thus, I basically want to be confident in the episode/chapter before I post.
Cross my fingers, I’ll get #8 drafted tonight. (If so, I’d expect #7 to go up next weekend.)
-
No muse, I’m already involved with another story, stop trying to tempt me with a new one….stop, STOP! Onward with the struggle.
-
Today’s been productive. Posted Jefferey episode #6, and nearly done with the draft to #7 (along with a dabble or two in #8). Depending on how productive I am this weekend, I should be confident with posting #7 next weekend, but no guarantees. (Always, TBD until I actually post it).
-
I like three day weekends, good chance to get some Jefferey episodes finished! I do have to be careful, some of these episodes are becoming a wee bit penis centric…
-
I’m guessing that I’ll be posting episode six next weekend, but no promises. (This is to Jefferey.)
-
Jefferey episode six is now written, onto seven. (I need to get seven done before I consider re-posting five.)

-
Hmm… seven is halfway and I’m confident in five….
-
One of the things that bites me at times is that I don’t like holding back on episodes/chapters. If I’m writing normally, I’ll stay like one ahead. But if I fall behind, I’m tempted to post sooner than I really should – most of the time, it’s okay. Occasionally, it’s bad.
-
And I think I’m splitting episode seven, seems more natural.
-
Well, at least I made progress on episode six today, felt like I was standing still for while.
-
Second draft to episode #5 is now done, 50% longer than before. I’ll be waiting until I finish this handful of episodes before I post (to avoid a repetition of before).
-
I meant “ice skating”, not “ice scatting” in my notes of ideas …. should I dare to think about what ice scatting would entail? Hmm… sounds dangerous. Suppose Frosty the snowman could be involved with this.

@BronxWench Sounds like a better location than the one I’ve gone to. I mean, yes, the county is next to water, but the restaurant I’m referring to is at a shopping mall, not particularly scenic.

@Desiderius Price This one was right on the beach in Negril, Jamaica. Going out at night in Jamaica is sort of a walk on the wild side, and we mostly stayed at the resort, but we had to go for a sunset burger just to say we’d done it.
-
@BronxWench Yeah, need to get a passport…. (my old one’s way past expired)

For those following Jefferey, I’ve yanked episode five, Contempt, and will repost once I revise it.
-
Ouch! Continuity errors happen, and only the author knows. It’s happened to almost everyone who writes a story with more than one book. It looked good for the reader. I’m sure the “corrected” version will be even better.
-
Thanks. Yeah, when I realized I was essentially revisiting the same point, that’s when I knew I had made a screwup. So one solution is to rehash the several episodes into a multi-part mini-series sort of thing, because some of it would be excellent in fostering some of Jeff’s grumpiness …
