  1. ::grins:: A WIP is a Work In Progress. I actually used my NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writer's Month) freebie to print a vanity copy of the first 40 chapters. Book 1 of the story, as it were. 130,842 words. Now I just have to finish the godsbedamned thing before next June so I can print up Book 2 as my little vanity prize. There's something incredibly fun about holding an actual book with your name on the spine.
  2. This author has two duplicates in Inuyasha: A Brother's Tail--Volume II-Kiss me, Aniki - posted first A Brother's Tail--Volume II-Kiss me, Aniki - duplicate Brothers Alternate Ending Posted - posted first Brothers Alternate Ending Posted - duplicate Profile
  3. And honestly, fan fictions can become as long and as complicated as any novel. Trust me on this. I have one WIP that is currently at 197,212 words so far, and it's not done. My Original stuff here doesn't get quite that long, but I can be a wordy Wench.
  4. I think it can depend on what's covered in the course. I know that the niceties of grammar, punctuation, and spelling are often neglected UNTIL you hit college, resulting in a great deal of shock. So, if the course helps with the technical aspects of writing, then I am all for it. As far as creative writing, I might be a little more on the fence. I like to follow the advice of a good many published authors who say that writing is a muscle that needs exercise, and if you're serious about writing, write at least 2,000 words a day. They can be rough, and you might throw them out later, but write. And if you think that's a lot to write a day, it works out to roughly 4 pages of 12-point Times Roman, single spaced. That's not too bad, is it?
  5. The "Aimless Babble" threads are where most of the general conversation-by-post takes place. You do need to be a registered user of the forum to access that feature, though. We also have the Procrastination Station, our shoutbox, which functions as a rolling chat screen. There's never a fixed topic there, and anyone who's online is more than welcome to chime in. The only thing we ask is that authors not solicit reviews by posting their story link in the shoutbox. Again, that feature requires forum registration. The forum functions in part as a review reply resource for our authors, since we don't permit review replies on the review boards themselves, and as a search forum. Those areas are open to all to read and reply, although only registered users can create a review reply thread. The other function of the forum is as a resource for our authors, a place to discuss writing, share tips, rant a bit, find a beta, and kick back. Those areas require forum registration. I hope this helps answer your question.
