As some of you may or may not have noticed, over the past few weeks we've been experiancing some issues with page loads and site slowness between 11pm and 1am EST. This is historically our busiest time of the evening, yet the issue is new. After some discussion with our Hosting company Nexcess, it was determined that the hardware we used was causing the issue. So of course, this means that it's time to upgrade the beast that keeps AFF running. Over the course of the next week the hardware will be upgraded, ideally it will for the most part be transparent to you our users, but as always we want to make sure that you are aware of what is going on. The new server will be coming online between 6am and 8am EST the morning of the 19th (today or tomorrow depending on your timezone) and the data migration will happen the 20th, again between 6am and 8am EST, this time with approximately 1 hour downtime as the data is moved. As we are also upgrading the OS and a few other odds and ends at the same time, there may be some additional strangeness as we ensure everything is configured correctly for approximately 1 week from today. While the entire staff as well as Nexcess will make sure that everything goes smoothly, if you experience any issues with the site outside of the 6-8am timeframes I mentioned above, please either comment in this threat or in the technical support forum with specific details and if possible screenshots of any issues you may have, or if you have questions please feel free to ask here. Updates from Apollo Updates from Apollo Alright, so the site is always fun, but thankfully there are no fireworks on site! Things have been relatively calm other than the attempted hack attack on our site a week or so back. I hope for all of our USA fans that you have/had a wonderful 4th of July weekend with friends and family As I have guests myself this weekend, I'll make the updates quick and painless! Archive Improvement Status Updates Nothing knew to report on this end, things are still progressing and we will let you know when they start rolling out! 2012 Calendar and 10 Year Anniversary Well, I know it seems really early to be thinking about 2012, but before you know realize it will be here and we won't have a calendar! I know last time it was such short notice that it was hard for artists to come up with stuff for us, so we'll be starting it a little earlier this time around. In August's news we will be releasing details of two upcoming art contests - One for the calendar and one for the 10th Anniversary site logo. So get out your thinking caps, pens, pencils, pixels and other instruments of amazing art and keep your eyes peeled for all the ins and outs next month!!! Please see the donation page for further information on how. Tech Updates from DemonGoddess Monthly Moderation Update As always, we want to keep you informed of how the site moderation goes. Take a look at the wonderful work that our staff has done in keeping the site safe and open to all! Click Me! Clean Up Update It is ongoing, if a little slow as I am the only one doing the actual database repairs. The sort/catalog tends to be quicker as multiple people work on that. Please know that work is continuing on it. Attempted Hack/Virus Information As your browsers may have told you, back on June 20th someone attempted to hack our banner software which made the site read as infected to browsers and threat detection sites. I reinstalled the banner software, created new tables in the database and deleted the old data. Catching it early allowed us to stop the attack and prevent whoever it was from continuing the attack. We have also had Nexcess run a utility to repair damages to the databases as some of the tables were slightly corrupted, this includes a forum table which caused the forum failure last week. We are pleased to report that no data was lost in the attack and subsequent repairs. For your peace of mind, please know that we have taken necessary precautions to ensure that this doesn't happen again. We are on a dedicated secure server and it was confirmed that those are in working order. It appears that a few other sites that host adult and/or slash related content also experienced attacks around the same time, so it doesn't appear that we were specifically targeted. As DG didn't address the second part of your post - I will. I'd like you to scroll up just above your post, you will see a box there that says: "If you know the piece of fiction that someone is searching for is removed from the site, but you retained a personal copy, please do not pass the story around. If the story is taken down either by the Author or Moderator staff there is a reason behind it that must be respected." While it may not tell you to not ask for a copy, I would think that it is easily inferred that you shouldn't. So as a reminder to all reading this topic - If you do have a copy and you pass that copy around, you are either supporting someone's illegal activities (posting a story underage on an adult site) or you are disrespecting an Authors wishes. Both are equally disagreeable.

From a smart man: I was riding to work yesterday when I observed a female driver cut right in front of a pickup truck causing him to have to drive on to the shoulder to avoid hitting her. This evidently angered the driver enough that he hung his arm out his window and flipped the woman off. "Man, that guy is stupid" I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in traffic and here's why: I drive 48 miles each way every day to work, that's 96 miles each day. Of these, 16 miles each way is bumper-to-bumper. Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway so if you just look at the 7 lanes I am not in, that means I pass something like a new car every 40 feet per lane. That's 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles. That works out to be 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars. Even though the rest of the 32 miles is not bumper to bumper, I figure I pass at least another 4000 cars. That brings the number to something like 36,000 cars I pass every day. Statistically, half of these are driven by females, that's 18,000. In any given group of females, 1 in 28 has PMS. That's 642. According to Cosmopolitan, 70% describe their love life as dissatisfying or unrewarding. That's 449. According to the National Institute of Health, 22% of all females have seriously considered suicide or homicide. That's 98. And 34% describe men as their biggest problem. That's 33. According to the National Rifle Association 5% of all females carry weapons and this number is increasing. That means that EVERY SINGLE DAY, I drive past at least one female that has a lousy love life, thinks men are her biggest problem, has seriously considered suicide or homicide, has PMS, and is armed. Flip one off? I think not.
