Between 1am and 6am EST April 11th, Nexcess, our hosting company, will be preforming system maintenance to upgrade some of their core systems. While they have planned this maintenance to not affect their customers like us, they did warn us that there may be some packet loss during this time period. What this means for us is that during this time, there may be some slowness while accessing the site and forums or even possible errors. We apologize in advance if there are any issues!

Time to add my two cents into this topic as owner. DG did a great job explaining, but I cannot let a topic like this go with out commenting as well. No - It does not make my admins look bad when we hide stories. In fact, it's a positive thing for many of our users, let me explain why. The only fan fiction site larger than us is FanFiction.Net. Their staff does nothing about anything. It takes days, weeks, months to get a plagiarized story removed and violations of their own TOS litter the site and they don't do anything about it. Then you have us. We have rules. They are very simple rules designed to keep the writers anonymous and me out of jail. We expect these rules to be followed. We actively moderate the site through weekly sweeps, identifying any ToS violations. As DG said, for disclaimers, we leave a review (which for most users triggers an email to the user) telling them they have 7 days to correct it. They don't correct it still, we hide it instead of just deleting it. Then we e-mail them directly, letting them know they have 30 days from the date it was hidden to correct it. Each and every user we contact in regards to a ToS issue is documented and I can tell you the date we first notified, the date we hid, and the final deletion date. When disclaimers became part of the site ToS, we did run scripts on the older stories, putting the most basic legal disclaimer that we could on each story. From that point on, it was the author's responsibility to put a disclaimer up. To make it even easier? We put a link right next to the disclaimer field "Required Disclaimer Format" on what is expected in a disclaimer. The sad fact of the matter however is that despite this being a site for authors and readers, people do not read. They are in such a rush to post that they don't take the time to click on the link to make sure they have what is needed before posting. To take it one step further, with the exception of the entitled young adults on the site that have yet to truly understand what risks the owner and admins take every day owning and running an adult site, let alone and adult fan fiction site, users appreciate that we actively moderate the site. You have a question, you can contact us and we will get back to you on average within 24-48 hours. All of our contact information is clearly listed, including IM information. I am in our chat daily as a physical presence so that people feel comfortable approaching me. We have users email us on a regular basis about ToS violations because they know that we will actually take care of it. The only people who end up having an issue with our policies and active moderation of the site are 95% of the time the people who feel like they are above the rules or know better than the professionals we consulted to ensure that we are legally covered.

Archive Clean Up Update This month starts the move of stories in Anime that belong in Cartoons. This means that for categories such as Transformers, new additions need to be uploaded to the category in Cartoons instead of Anime. Anything added to Anime going forward that belongs in Cartoons will be hidden, the user emailed and notified and the story will need to be re-uploaded to Cartoons.

Not a bother at all! I'm not entirely sure what's going on, but I'll bring it to DG's attention and see if she has anymore ideas!

Janey - Content codes can only be selected from the list when a story is uploaded and do not count towards summary totals then, once that initial save is done though any edits are reflected in the word count for the summary, I apologize. One thing you can do though, is put your summary and either "See A/N top of Ch 1 for full content codes/warnings" or list the most impacting codes and then in an AN in chapter 1 list all of them there, or a combination of the two, what ever works out best character wise. We just need the content codes in to CYA (well, cover my ass technically) and it doesn't matter if they are in the summary or chapter data, so long as they are there and correct. I would caution though that if you explore any possible squicks or phobia topics like non-con/mpreg/minor that you put them in the summary, users tend to prefer to be warned before they click on a story, but that's a suggestion not a requirement. Like I said so long as they are either summary or top of chapter. Sorry for the slight ramble, that's what happens when I answer member questions at 1am...!

What particular forums are you having an issue with? Is it when you click the link in the email or when you access them normally through the forums?

As the forum title suggests, this will be a place to put your stories that you are no longer interested in continuing up for adoption! Each story should have it's own topic, that way we moderators can track it. If a story is adopted, the topic needs to be updated with the information of the person taking it over so that we have a record and can avoid any accusations of plagiarism going forward. Please include the following information in all posts: In the Topic Title, put the fandom and story name. (Example: Twilight: Inferno in the Snow) In the Topic Description, put that the fiction is up for adoption.; If the story is adopted, moderators will edit to reflect that it is no longer up. In the actual post: Pen Name in Archive Story Title Genre Pairing Summary How many chapters posted/written Link to story if posted already Basic plot along with any additional details you are interested in including, keeping in mind that if you include possible spoilers this is an open forum How you would like to be contacted, email, PM etc When a story is adopted, please respond to the topic with the following information: Pen name and link of the person taking over. Each author must also reply that they have both agreed to the story being taken over. At this point, DG will move the story over to the new author's profile, while maintaining the original author's information connected to previously written chapters. We will then close the topic and change the description to adopted. This is not the place to ask to adopt someone else's story. Also, if the original author hasn't offered to give up their story voluntarily then you can't simply take it over, no matter how much time has passed since it was last updated. To do so is plagiarism. Remember, follow all these rules to avoid anybody being accused of plagiarism, because we take those accusations very seriously here at AFF. Please note: Do not attach files of your stories to your post. If you do so, your post will be deleted.
