It was really by chance. I was looking up something on the Naruto series and stumbled across a GaaNaru fanfiction and liked it and so began my foray into fanfiction. I've read both het and slash/yaoi stories and have found that I enjoy the slash/yaoi stories more, though I will still read het stories.

I'd say that's true, at least in my case. There have been series that I've made it a point to seek out because I happened to read an interesting story based on it. One series being Kyou Kara Maoh. Speaking to the original question, I have to say yes. Personally, I don't see the issue. As long as credit is given to the original, I don't see the problem. Edit: Personally, I don't see the harm. I can see that it might be annoying if someone takes an idea you came up with and does better profit-wise than you did. But then I'd say, it sucks for you that they just write better. I dunno. But I think the Japanese have the best view of it, allowing doujinshis to be published for a moderate profit. I would agree with that. You never know when one person's choice might trigger a reaction in the wrong person and end up ruining it for us all.

Personally, I'll eat almost anything with sour cream. I love it:) And I like tortilla chips with tuna.... and tuna sandwiches with grated parmesan sprinkled on top. Very good. I love that. People look at me oddly when I mix it, but it's so much better than ketchup alone. And I like cold pizza. Can barely get through it when it's hot. And it has to have more cheese than sauce. If there's a ton of sauce I can't stomach it. I also love broccoli, but not just the florets. I love to buy the whole broccoli and eat the stalks.

Biggest tax cut in Florida history

Personally I'd agree with you looking at how things are going. A friend of my mom's works for CAA and Headstart and it seems like their having money issues as well. Closing down a lot of centers when they didn't have enough in the first place. We could definitely do with a bit more money, or at least what money we have being spent properly. -
Coolies:)

I dunno if it's just me, but I'm noticing an issue on the Most Recently Updated Stories page. Usually that's the first place I go when I sign on and I just go through the pages. Now I'm noticing repeating stories. And it's not that the stories have been posted more than once, they're just showing up more than once. Like one being You Broke My Fall. I've seen it 3 times when it's only posted once. Is it a side affect of the editing thing that was just reworked?

I'm here now too, I'm sure everyone's thrilled to see me I finally figured out what the naughty points were for and decided to do something with the little i have.

There's someone in the Draco/Harry Section summarizing all the major points of the story, if your interested. Me, I work at a library so I'm just gonna get the copy from there. And maybe I'll end up with a copy of the book eventually. People donate books (too many books) and when we start overflowing we're allowed to take some of the donations. So I have maybe 3 copies of the Half-blood Prince. I guess a few people weren't interested in keeping them and hearing the talk on this one I'd suspect this one will be a case of the same thing.

That was the definition I found when I first heard the term and it's been the one I've stuck with. Unfortunately, a lot of people (authors and some readers) define flames as anything negative that they, or their favorite author, doesn't want to hear. I've been called a Flamer for negative, but constructive, criticism. I've seen others who've also been called the same. It would be nice if people could get it straight because it's a bit insulting when I take the time to try to write out good constructive criticism and get blown off as a Flamer.

Biggest tax cut in Florida history

Not sinking quite yet, though we are shrinking a bit. Erosion and all^_^ -
Anyone else living in Florida (or not) somewhat following this? They want to reduce property taxes by $15 billion I think they said, with the option of that doubling in January. Anyone else just think that's not the best of ideas. It's nice to give people a break, but you need some way to put that money back in. And I don't think they've made any plans for that. Personally I work in a public library, so I'm dealing first hand with the consequences of this tax cut. The amount of things that are going in the library, they've even cut out buying books. All the social programs are on the verge of being cut: a tutoring program, an adult literacy program, a program to create and bring 'tool boxes' to preschools, a program to bring books to the homebound, a bookmobile to go into areas that don't have libraries. There's a hiring freeze, so if a library ends up short they're going to, and have already started to, transfer people forcefully to other libraries. And if you don't go, you get fired. And that's just the library. Anyone else just think Republicans are a little too tax cut happy, but they don't think about what's going to happen afterwards?

My point wasn't aimed at the media, but at the fact that, yes unfortunately Anna Nicole is what people care more about. And I find that to be so sad. It's no wonder that Americans don't get much respect for their intelligence from the rest of the world.
-
To quote an article on her death: She wasn't just his daughter. While that might have helped her in her jump into fame, Anna Nicole's claim to fame was pretty much the fact that she married a guy who was 50+ years older than her and she went after his money. And she went from there basically being a huge embarrassment to herself. Personally, I find it sad.

Martin Luther King's daughter dies and it's mentioned as an afterthought by the news. Ana Nicole Smith dies and it's shown several times a night for months.

Like Saikano. Definitely tragic that one

Pretty much every cartoon that's on tv today, but the two that stand out are Spongebob and Ed, Edd, and Eddy. I think the only cartoon I've seen recently that I actually really like is Avatar.
-
I used to love Gargoyles, Darkwing Duck, Talespin, and others who's names I can't of. A little more recently I love Batman Beyond and Static Shock and the Zeta Project (for the short time it ran). *sigh* I miss good cartoons Edit: Another one my brother got me into was Reboot.

Damn it, the moment I get to a place where I actually have a fast enough internet connection to see the video it's gone Is there another link somewhere else?

I don't know what's going on but it seems like lately I've been bombarded with Mary Sues. Are they becoming more popular or is this just bad luck on my part? And then when you point it out, your a flamer. I actually read a story by an author recently who spent more time developing her blatantly Mary Sue original character (which she used in every story she wrote) than she did actually developing her story. I've noticed more and more lately that any constructive criticism is brushed off as flaming. Not just criticism coming from myself but from anyone giving criticism. It's like it's getting to the point where if you find an author who can take and accept any criticism your lucky. And I find that when I find these stories (and even other badly written stories whether they include Mary Sues or not) that I think back to things that I hear about fanfiction as a whole, or even certain 'genres' of fanfiction. I've heard so many people talk about fanfiction like it's a joke. 'Oh, I've read some fanfiction and the stories are just such crap.' And 'they're so badly written'. And it just frustrates me that there are such crappy stories out there with authors who aren't interested in hearing anything that could help them improve. I know a lot of people say that if you don't like it just move on, but it just bugs me that there are such badly written stories by authors who are content to keep their stories that way and that these stories are what a lot of people are basing their impressions of fanfiction as a whole on. Any thoughts? Even if it's just that I'm taking it too seriously.

I can't remember which chapter it is specifically, but I stopped around the point where Naruto started his elemental training with Yamato and Kakashi. But go ahead and spoil it for me, I don't mind.

I had a discussion with someone about the whole Sasuke/Naruto, seme/uke issue. and your comment brings to mind something that the person said. She said that Sasuke sees himself as powerless, that he has an inferiority complex. Personally, in my experience people like that tend to be the ones who try to hardest to act big and bad. And who definitely wouldn't willingly put themselves into a position where they are not the ones in control, especially in a situation involving someone that on a relatively equal level. Naruto has his hang-ups, but in my mind, he'd definitely not be as resistant to the idea as Sasuke almost certainly would be. I think especially in terms of Naruto vs. Sasuke. Some people say that just like Sasuke wants to best Naruto, Naruto wants to best Sasuke too. But somehow for Naruto I don't think it's so much besting him as proving that he's worthy of his respect and acknowledgment. I think that's pretty much what everything is for Naruto, proving that he's worth someone's respect. I don't know if that made sense, but I'm tired and I have a massive toothache so it's the best I can do.

It kind of got away from the original point of my post, which was that from what I gather it's only a small number of stories on the site that have had/are having an issue with trolls and I figured it was easier to get notice to a small number of people that they can disallow anonymous reviews vs a much larger number who aren't having problems or would like anonymous reviews and haven't heard that they can. That was a long sentence but I think it makes sense. But anyways, if you think that making anonymous reviews the default would cause problems then okay.
-
Personally, I've found that most of the authors I know of, even those with not so thick skin, would prefer to just have reviews in the first place. Then to have the option of eliminating anon reviews if you want to. Anyways, I think the issue was more with trolls crashing parts of the site than with protecting author with less than thick skin.
-
I kind of thought that the specific problem was an isolated incident, so the few authors who are having the problems would know to leave anonymous reviews off. I just kind of figured since there seems to be a much larger number who'd prefer to have anonymous reviews than those who'd want to prohibit them then it would be a solution to the problem of the many authors who don't seem to know that they can allow them.
