Halloween 2025

I think it should be okay, as it’s a collections of one shots, basically in round robin form, yes?2 points -

In my case, I created a master listing at the top of my review thread here in the forums; links to my stories/oneshots in the archive. That’s an option too, but yeah, it’d be nice to have links from our profiles too.2 points -

One year… might’ve been my first. I did a Halloween story, and decided to continue it with a sequel for the holiday story.1 point -

Think that’s what everybody is referring to, the typical halloween/holiday format.1 point -

Yep, basically. I remember some of the one shots ended up getting sequels – I think mine re-used characters – but were all generally self contained. Great then, thank you for the ruling1 point -
InvidiaRed's review responses
JayDee reacted to InvidiaRed for a topic
From JayDee on January 18, 2026 I doubt I’ll have time to go back through every holiday I missed, but this recent one got a mention so I figured what the heck, lets see what y’all did! Starting with the first story: Interregnum by InvidiaRed A Fucking Creepy Statue? Jesus, those things get everywhere! I’d be scared if someone tried to turn me into a statue. In fact, I’d be petrified. First thought seeing that was if it was a crossover with InBrightestDay’s multipart epic, but I guess they’re unrelated. Definitely made me look twice tho’ Its a direct parallel. The Falling Angel is met with a Rising Demon. Their hellion story ends where the angel’s begins. Ok, so, a couple of the transitions threw me slightly – suddenly back in the park, then back in the mall, and earlier the way there was suddenly a wall behind in the service corridor – but otherwise I had a pretty solid idea what happened throughout, and why, and I thought there were some pretty goddamn badass moments. Thank you Going toe to toe with Vulravn like that, taking his floor from him – oh, he’s gonna respawn? Well, he can die again. Let him go rule the remains of the shoe store Jenna was correct about not trusting him. Death is a luxury only mortals get. And Jenna slew one of Hell’s Reapers. Losing the certainty of death isn’t something she knows she’s lost… Yet. Didn’t quite get the deal with Mars – was it something similar to the original Doom plot where Hell started pouring through up there, and then you basically find yourself on the shores of Hell? Those were the days… The Afterlife follows mortals wherever they tread so to does psychopomps. Rex best boy! It was a Halloween horror and I was starting to worry something bad might happen to him in a “Dogs aren’t the only ones that can lick” type way, but it was cool! Rex the instrument of vengeance too! I liked how that was foreshadowed too, with how the previous officer had received Jenna’s vengeance for sending the men to their deaths. Yes. Its her line in the sand. ...and her closest ally, Rex? a King... and she's a Queen. Nice. Anyways, I enjoyed this one! Like I say, good dog, badass fighting, nice imagery. Did Vulravn come out of the broken statue or was that thing just… broken? No. But they did manage to wash up down there. The Hellspore touches many places. And they more than earned their stay.1 point -

DemonGoddess reacted to BronxWench for a topic
This may be a setting on your web browser. I would start there and see if an auto-translate feature has been turned on by default. I opened a French fiction, and although my browser does auto-translate at least one language, it did not try to translate the French to English. If that’s not the case, perhaps clearing your cache and refreshing the page will reset it properly to display in French.1 point -

Sea caves can go quite a long way underground, right? Like, even under the shore... I mean, yeah, there’s gotta more of a chance than I thought of ‘em hooking up Stay off the seabed, Darri! That’s where they play! Don’t end up a juice box!1 point -

From JayDee on January 18, 2026 Leaffall by BronxWench Wow, reading a BronxWench story… it’s just like the olddays! I felt bad for Darri, honestly, poor simple guy trying to dothe right thing. Trying to do the right thing for this woman he cares for, and asa result ending up separated. Also, absolutely not believing Angaine saying it’sdaft to say she cared for him. I mean, I get it could just be that he was herbest shot as the one looking out for her, but it still sounds from his POVrecollections that she was above and beyond nicer to him! Her too, fretting andworrying away over him. I guess it’s happy for her that she gets to go home, but sad that she can’t go with him, because even if he goes back on the landfor a wander, she’s off under the mountains. Ah well, he’s gotta be happier under the sea at the end. I mean,it sounds like his soul’s still down there. Just sort of spread about a bitamongst the sea fae, but in the general vicinity. After reading the bit about the state of the little ones, eventhe one that got a bit bitey, you can see why they went full Tsunami againstthe human settlement at the end there. Folks kinda had it coming, even withoutkeeping Angaine chained up and exploited. But Darri though! That guy was just too pure. Even the ol’sea hag is like double-taking “Such innocence” Ah well, all the fish he can eatin the sea, and none of that gruel either! Proper simple not even thinkingabout sex or any of that type innocence. Did half wonder if he might end upromantic with Wavesinger, but, no, his only feelings were for Angaine and eventhen there was nothing mucky. Ah, well, a fine story! Was good to see it in thelittle anthology. Thank you! Honestly, I think Darri is one of those utterly simple types who doesn't think much beyond doing what he’s told, and Angaine’s too damned angry about being chained to the floor to see Darri as more than a tool. But yes, Wavesinger held a pretty large grudge against humans, enough to overlook his grudge against the deep fae and work with Angaine. But now, both Wavesinger and Darri live at the end, so one has to wonder if they’ll manage to hook up, eventually. If Darri doesn’t get nibbled to death by the bitey little ones.1 point -
Halloween 2025
JayDee reacted to BronxWench for a topic
I should actually know this myself, but to be honest, I’m not sure, so I’m going to defer to The Ultimate Authority, @DemonGoddess to give us a ruling. Now, personally, given that I do have a few holiday chapters floating around, I would love to be able to cross-post them to my profile as well. There’s one or two I’m quite pleased with, and I wouldn’t mind them getting a marginally wider audience. But I’ll go with whatever DG rules on this one.1 point -

After getting a chunk of writing done, took a break to read the stories and poem in the collection. Left reviews for @InvidiaRed @GeorgeGlass and @BronxWench since I don’t think you get notifications on chapters. But no review for @InBrightestDay because The Lake House didn’t get finished. “If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding. How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?” 😛 I kid, I kid, I will read and review it when you get it finished! Hey, while I’m here, can anybody remember – if we had a story in one of the holiday collections at some point, was there any rule against re-posting it to our own profile while it was still there, or would that be afoul of some duplication rule and we’d need to delete our chapter before re-posting to our own? Asking for a me, who should know better.* Jaydee. *I really did know this shit once.** **Some of it*** ***Maybe.1 point -
I am right there with you on a presumed resurgence. If it has any success at all there’ll be all the fanworks for the new series, but also a lot of the new generation of fans will be streaming the old stuff too, and so it’s just gotta lead to more scooby goodness! My memory is somewhat hazy, but there’s absolutely collaborative stories on here. InBrightestDay and I have a non-sex story up we jointly wrote with some of his pre-existing OCs (and some new collaboration specific ones), but that was all posted in one go. There’s functionality though for what they called Round Robin stories, where someone started it and then someone else puts in another chapter and so on. I’ve mostly seen it used on the holiday anthologies they do, with everyone having a different chapter for the theme, but it’s absolutely there for ongoing story collabs too. Probably one that would do best if the fandom resurgence happens and it suddenly gets a lot busier over there I can’t imagine those stories don’t run into issues sometimes whether it’s because one writer favours a specific ship that another is really turned off by, or just not having strict enough pre-agreed content guidelines so someone’s slipping in scat or whatever. “Chocolate Brownie?” “Oh, no, not after last chapter. You aren’t catching me out again.” “Oh, fine, have a glass of lemonade. Wash your mouth out.” “...it’s warm. Why is it warm?” And the worst thing is when someone adds a chapter that’s just straight plagiarized. When I was going through my reviews the other day, deleting all the spammed bot links, I saw a negative review from someone for apparently stealing another story – the reviewer didn’t seem to care mine had been posted 10 years before the ‘stolen’ one – And I remembered that in in that case somoene had changed the names from my original and then pasted in as a chapter in an ongoing collab “choose your own adventure” on another site. That kind of thing makes it hard for me to trust folks in fanfic sometimes1 point

Totally get that. I definitely want to get back to writing in the Buffy fandom at some point but I’ve got a bunch of ideas in other fandoms that I gotta get out of my head. I’m guessing there’ll be a resurgence of interest in the Buffy fandom if/when the sequel series comes out. Maybe there could be a collaboration on ideas. Since I’ve never really done this in fanfic before. Someone else or I write the first chapter and open it up to additional chapters by other writers. So we can work collaboratively on a story. Kinda depends on what people are into though.1 point

@InBrightestDay FYI, I just reviewed “Meaningful Gifts.”1 point -
Taking another quick look at the first couple pages on the main subdomain – I see your stories! – there’s been relatively few updates – stories on page 2 were last update in 2020 so at this stage I think the remaining fans would settle for being whelmed in any capacity! Ooh! Willow finds an online D&D group and plays a goblin? Called Glur- ahem. No, I mean I assume group snuggling. I’m thinking I’ll check it out once I’m doing working the challenge, mostly so I don’t think “Shit! I wish I’d thought of that!” or worse end up inadvertantly ripping it off. It’s not actually my idea though @julpups heya, had you seen Deadman’s Willow group story mentioned there? Could well be something close to your literary vision has already been realised1 point

Ah, congratulations! I’d imagine it’s a satisfying thing to finally bring that story series to a close. Interesting. So this isn’t a continuation of Duncan and Company’s story, but is linked to Interregnum instead. The start of a new Holiday Canon?1 point -
Did AFF ever develop an AI policy?
JayDee reacted to BronxWench for a topic
Oh, trust me, I imagine the number of people who have actually read the Terms of Service are a distinct minority compared to those who are shocked, shocked, I tell you, to find out we have rules. They won’t be any more likely to observe site restrictions on AI, and yes, that is a deeply cynical point of view.1 point -

Agreed. Where you REALLY see AI is in some of those visual books on Youtube. Hubs likes to listen to them. Mind you, I’ve read countless sci-fi books, so when he’s listening, I can usually tell him which book and/or author they’re stealing from 🤣1 point -

It’s also devaluing to be accused of using AI for writing simply because you like dashes, ellipses, or using proper grammar.1 point -

As much as I would love to see people use something that would correct formatting and spelling, the onus for that is on the author and not the site. My inner editor may be reduced to tears frequently, but site policy is to let the attempted murder of written English stand around with its flies undone and its complete inability to comprehend homonyms on full display.1 point
