Upgrade & Hit Counters

As I track my hits on a daily basis (or more), I’ve noticed a sharp increase in the counts post upgrade.  (Going from maybe 1-2 per day to dozens on some stories.)  Software bug?  Bots now cruising the pages?

Oddly enough, a general increase in traffic and new members. Also with the improved archive search, more people getting to what they are looking for faster and easier.

Twas wondering, of course.  Rational me likes to know explanations; maybe the way the hits are recorded has changed too?  (ie story views vs chapter views)?  I mean, yes, while an increased count is *nice*; I know that with numbers, it’s good to have reason behind it.

Hmm, could just be that it’s being seen better by Google?

Is there a place to see how much traffic has increased for your story? I did notice that one of my story seems to have a large number of readers but I can’t remember what it used to be. It was a pretty popular story.

There isn’t unfortunately, I can see general site wide traffic as well as new registrations.
As far as google is concerned, the age verify pretty much stops it in its tracks.
The improved archive search is much more reliable as people can search/filter by content tags on their own meaning more people actually find the content they are looking for.

That could be part of it. The improvement in people’s ability to find what they’re looking for might have been to the benefit of a potential Google search. They like more organized content for people and for their options. But it’s definitely in part people just using the site. Also could just be people excited about the new version of the site, playing around with it.

This morning, I added Review Replies links to several of my stories, and tonight I noticed that making that one little change pushed those stories to the top of their respective categories.

That is on purpose, to reward authors and encourage them to go back and update older stories to use new site features.

I think I have old fashioned review reply links at the bottom of all mine anyway, so I’ll leave mine down the depths of the site where they belong! I can start updating it for any new stories though

I’m curious what you mean by general increase. Hundreds of new views? Thousands? How much is lots of new registrations?

If you can’t say, that’s fine but you’ve got me curious.

Numbers…. for several mine (I generally record in the mornings):

• Dale’s Game – Jan 1^st @ 3704.  20^th @ 3711.  28^th @ 3791
• Repair Guy – Jan 1^st @ 5087.  20^th @ 5099.  28^th @ 5238.
• Jefferey – Jan 1^st @ 19218.  20^th @ 19261.  28^th @ 19514.

Thus, many dozens/hundreds.  So if it’s genuine on the increase, that’s good.  If it was, for whatever reason, being under-counted before, and that’s fixed, that’s good.  My worry was it being bogus due to a glitch as I know how code can go.
