Kyouryoku Senshi Posted August 12, 2007 Report Posted August 12, 2007 I've written pretty much about everything, however some of the topics I wouldn't write about are: beastiality, rape, incest (With the exception of Angel Sanctuary), molestation or extreme hardcore sex. Those are pretty much my only limitations. I've written Yuri, violence, lemons, bisexual and straight fanfiction and thinking about writing a yaoi fanfic soon. Being a writer, I like to try and write just about any topic except the ones listed above. Quote
FairlightMuse Posted August 13, 2007 Report Posted August 13, 2007 I write a lot of M/M... but I've done my research, and I'm not talking about renting videos either. I have a very good friend I've known since we were 13 or so. He's gay, proud of it, and is my main source of information about "how does it feel, what do you think about, are men actually like that, is that even physically possible"? Just because I'm not a man doesn't mean I can't write about it. If that was the case then when I write Het I wouldn't be able to have the man interacting with the woman - just kinda standing there like a cardboard cut out. I've read lot's of good M/M and F/F fictions, so I have no problems with people writing them. I just don't feel I have the experience to write them well enough. You are very lucky to have a such a helpful friend, and he is lucky to have such an openminded friend as yourself. Quote
NinjaGaijin Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Should we turn this thread into some 'I dare you to write this' thread? For some reason, I'm having an idea to write something with transvestites. That's one topic I've never touched on before. Probably I've been spending too much time at /d/... Quote
EveKnight75 Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 DO IT! No seriously, do it. I wanna read a good trans-fic. As for turning this into a dare thread, I'm not sure this thread has reached that point yet. Quote
Jadwin Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Sex scenes involving females. I don't care what the combination is; female naughty bits make me gag. There's nothing sexy about it. I've written rape, snuff, torture, and a myriad of other squick-worthy material, but when it comes down to it, females are my limit. Girls are gross. Quote
EveKnight75 Posted August 14, 2007 Report Posted August 14, 2007 Love your new member title, Jadwin. It suits you well. I remember that movie. Little Rascals, right? I just realized that I'm breaking one of my own cardinal rules by derailing this thread. So I'm gonna go smack myself, ask you guys to limit the rest of this conversation to PMs, and delete some of these posts 2 weeks later. Back to our regularly scheduled program. FairlightMuse: Personally, I think that I could write M/M provided that I did research on the physical and intra-societal aspects of it. I don't think you necessarily need to be a gay man, or a man at all, in order to write it effectively. When it comes to things like emotional aspects, I think it's possible to imagine yourself in that scenario and get an idea of how you'd feel if you were in that position. The beauty of writing about subjects like sex and murder is that having first-hand experience isn't a pre-requisite. You don't need to kill a person to write about a murderer. You don't need to have sex with an animal to write about bestiality. On the other hand, if you don't handle a topic like M/M well, you can end up insulting a lot of people, and it's not limited to gay male readers. From that perspective, I can see why you'd be apprehensive about writing M/M. Quote

I have put in a few things that I myself have not personally experienced, and in retrospect I can see faults with some of the details. However, the longer we live the more we learn. One day, I may well write the M/M. It certainly doesn't gross me out. Like you said, I just wouldn't want to offend anyone. And when I say offend, I don't mean in the sense that close-minded people get offended at anything scandalous; but in the sense that culturally I wouldn't wish to insult anyone. Quote

StoryJunkie Posted August 16, 2007 Report Posted August 16, 2007 It's amazing that I can just get around to M/F. I never even knew what yaoi or yuri or shonen ai was. I needed an interpreter. Being here has been a great learning experience. Let's shoosh down this hill! Quote
Mourningstar Posted August 20, 2007 Report Posted August 20, 2007 I gave this one a long, hard thought. I have my precious kinks, any combinations of genders involved isn't a problem, I suppose I could even write about stuff I'm not personally the least bit interested in, like scat or pedo or even vore. But the one thing I don't think I could ever write? Male pregnancy. It squicks the bejesus out of me. I can't even read it, so any attempt at writing it would be doomed before it ever began. Quote

The only situation I can stand it is in parodies, to make fun of it. Other than that ... ugh ... :- Quote
foeofthelance Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Anal/Slash. Yup! I'm one of the five plain vanilla hetero writers on the entire site. No werewolves, aliens, vampires, angsty incest, slash between any characters, none of it! I think I've written a grand total of ONE tent fic in my time here, and I don't know what Hiei did with it, but I doubt it's been put out. I write guys and girls getting on the good old fashioned way. Though occasionally the time and place can be a bit odd... Quote
madlodger Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 No werewolves, aliens, vampires, angsty incest, slash between any characters, none of it! NONE? None at all? Not even a one teenzy little part-were? Wow. Do you like reading vanilla stories as well or brunch out in your reading? Yup! I'm one of the five plain vanilla hetero writers on the entire site Hey, for as long as you are on top of the pile Quote
foeofthelance Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 NONE? None at all? Not even a one teenzy little part-were? Wow. Do you like reading vanilla stories as well or brunch out in your reading? Hahaha, I actually read quite a bit of everything, with the exception of slash. Just doesn't do anything for me. *Shrugs* And I so write other things involving aliens and monsters and beasties, they just don't end up here. I've just never had any inspiration to write such, partly because as far as I can tell there's no difference. So what if the guy or gal suddenly develops a major hair problem once or twice a month? I live with four women, and trust me, what ever couple that is has it easy! So yup, plain vanilla! Quote

The only situation I can stand it is in parodies, to make fun of it. Other than that ... ugh ... :- There was one time an ex-friend of mine wrote an absolutely awesome MPreg fic that fully made the MPreg plausible (magical trinket the person didn't know would cause that) and the interaction between the parents-to-be very good. I actually liked it a LOT. But, other then that one story, and another story that snuck the MPreg in there after I got into it, I can't read it unless it's a parody. I really, really can't. MPreg are lke OCs to me: Usually bad, even though there's totally a way to do it right. Quote

Guest DarkAvenger Posted August 30, 2007 Report Posted August 30, 2007 Scat or Mpreg. Can't and won't do it, period. Everything else is fair game. I have my reasons why and why not, but I fear they're far too long winded for the short period of time I have to be perusing this forum. Quote
radius Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 One thing I try to do in my stories is never to degrade a gender or race. I think what type of message I'm sending out. If it's a bad message, then that's my limit. Each of us has our own ideals and beliefs. I can't define what's 'bad' since mines probably different from yours. For example, I'm pretty opened in matters of sex. M/M. Moresomes. Mpreg (never read one but hey, there's always a first time, lol). To me, it's whatever. It's just sex. Sex isn't always meant to be between two doves heavily in love with each other, who wish to express their innocent thoughts with innocent gestures. No, we humans screw like dogs too. And contrary to the disillusioned belief that all girls are innocent and pure, no, we aren't. We're just as horny as any guy is. A girl having sex isn't degrading the female race. On the other hand, having a guy wear a uniform kicking alien ass while the sidekick girl bounces happily around in a thong *is* degrading. Likewise, the sidekick girl getting raped every five minutes and coming away with no emotional trauma. So there's my limit. I try to empower my characters while just keeping it real and offering my readers a good time. In terms of sex, if two characters can't consent to the act together, then that's my limit. Unless the story calls for a scene to reinforce a higher purpose (ex: showing the traumas of an abused victim), I'll never write that type of stuff. Quote
vinsmouse Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 I won't say never, cause everything I ever said I'd never do; I did. lol I will say I don't intend to ever write beastiality, necrophilia, mpreg(I really hate those, unless the character who is pregnant is also an alien. That I can buy into.) I can't see writing something involving piss or feces, just can't understand that attraction at all. I'm not downing those who are turned on by it, I just don't get it. I have written child abuse but only when it was central to the plot of the story. I haven't written it as anything meant to arouse. If I write stuff like that or rape I try to make it clear that it's a horrible experience, not something fun and exciting. I write Dukes of Hazzard mostly and mostly Bo/Luke so incest obviously isn't a problem and neither is slash. Ironically enough I have a harder time writing het scenes than slash and I'm a married woman. Go figure. lol. Can't think of anything else I'd have trouble writing, though I'm sure later something will come to me. It usually does. Mouse Quote
Entrisic Posted September 8, 2007 Report Posted September 8, 2007 My limits... hmm. A simple question to answer and yet to be answered carefully. I'm fairly sure the one thing I will never write is scat. 99.9% sure on that. Everything else... well, I used to be squicked pretty badly about bloodplay and rape and now it doesn't even raise an eyebrow. (in fiction, of course.) So it's not something I usually feel like writing/reading about but I have no problems writing it. Canibalism, maybe? No, I'd write about that too. Hmm. Mpreg doesn't bother me - I don't read it, but it inspires no negative feelings. Not sure I'd ever use the plot device myself. Incest? Some of my favorite pairings are incest. (I swear prime-time TV has been shoving it down my throat the past few years.) It's not like I don't have limits, I just don't think about them unless I suddenly run into one unexpectedly. I write primarily on impulsive whim so I never quite know where I'm going with what my fingers type out. OCs in cannon settings do make me a bit queasy. It's so tricky for me not to feel like I'm somehow performing a MS stunt or self-insert. I'd like not to feel that way because through RPs I found a wonderful character that goes along so perfectly with a canon character that I have a hard time remembering that the pairing isn't canon. Huh. I suppose that's a limit. Mary-Sues and self-inserts. This loathing of them stems from being stalked by someone because I happened to roleplay a character they liked to imagine was real. Logically I know MS and self-inserts are just fun fantasies but I regard them warily after such a brush with someone who takes them a wee bit too seriously. Quote
Elvy Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 I indulge in a little bit of guy x guy slashing, but otherwise the psychotic fanaticism of 'yaoi fangirls' has really ruined most of my love for anything guy x guy related anymore. I like my het pairings and in the end I'm a straight girl looking for some fun het stories to entertain my brain from time to time. But I'm with a bigger group of people on the whole scat thing. Playing with poo makes me want to pray to the porcelain god in my mind. Unless it's written in as a huge gag situation, I tend to avoid anything in that area. I'm sure there's a few other things I avoid, but I tend to think of each fettish as a challenge. Rape I actually have no issues with, and the whole child porn / abuse thing I'm a bit neutral about. I don't advocate it, but I won't hesitate to write it if the situation ever called for it. And just like rape, I would never glorify it in a positive light by any measure. I'm sure as I reach my 30's my mind will change significantly on this matter. Quote
ChaserBlue Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I'm a yaoi fangirl, sure, but I can't write yaoi to save my life! Shounen-ai I have no problem with *remembers a Beyblade fic she wrote that she just got on a roll on and ran with it* but aside from that, nope can't write yaoi worth a darn. Quote
Sky_Pirate_Tat Posted November 27, 2007 Report Posted November 27, 2007 Scat and anything like vomiting or peeing isn't my kink. As for everything else, even if it's not in my interests I'll try to write it to challenge myself. Quote
Kanashii Posted December 4, 2007 Report Posted December 4, 2007 Well since the original question was..."Are there any topics you would never write yourself? Does anything make you cringe when you attemnp to write it?" So of course I can only speak for myself. Basically I can't do slash (M/M) I don't have anything AGAINST slash, I just would never write it myself. It does nothing for me. Sex with a minor is another. I guess because I am a mom and have a son (Now 20) but either way, the thought of an adult (over 21) with a true CHILD (under 10) just really is a stomach churner for me. Beastiality (Sex with animals) is another "I could never write and makes me cringe" only because I have worked with the SPCA and various animal rescues for many years and have seen the results of this in REAL life (Men with small kittens, dogs, ferrets, etc. Obviously the small cat/dog/kitten is usually so torn and injured it has to be euthanized/destroyed). So that is another thing that I would not be interested in reading or writing. That being said, I would NEVER 'damn' another authors work ever. If someone DID like writing about the above subjects I would trust they had the appropriate codes and warnings to let me know to avoid that fanfic. But again, never would I 'slam' them for it or say "Man, are you WEIRD". And I certainly hope as professional WRITERS we realize that there are many subjects and things that each writer weaves. I am not one to talk as I write some very 'dark' stuff involving BDSM, D/s and even have one 'snuff' story. But I always have codes up for it for those who want to skip those stories. Again, as I posted on one of my other posts. This is the beauty and diversity of AFF. So many different kinks, fetishes and adult writing. There is something for everyone and every kink, and all authors are certainly entitled to write about whatever they wish as long as it doesn't involve REAL minors and individuals I guess. Quote
