I like how the show puts creativity into its aliens, thinking outside of the “humanoid” box quite a bit (recognizing that most series go with humanoid because it’s way, way, easier from an effects perspective).

I thought Jodie was the 13^th Doctor?! I mean, since they don’t include the War Doctor in the numbering. And Rowan Atkinson’s doctor was sadly only for comic relief (but for anyone who hasn’t seen The Curse of the Fatal Death it’s well worth seeing- I think the BBC has it on youtube). And the others were non-canon…

And humanoid aliens (and doing a lot of earth set episodes) is definitely a bit of a money saver, as well as being easier  

Well, so did MacFarlane’s The Orville. Oh man, that show is great. Was the Dr. Who introduction first? What about a Dr. Who/Orville crossover? 

I stopped following Dr. Who mid-way through Matt Smith’s episodes. The writing was dragging so much of the time that I didn’t want to slog through it to get to the few gems. Sad times. I still think one of my favorite “aliens” was the human skin with a face stretched over a rack, although I guess that was supposed to be a future human.
