  1. From this article... Sounds weird to me and like someone is trying to make some bucks off the success of Harry Potter but do you think it could be true? Anyone read the book the mentioned? I know Stephanie Meyer of Twilight fame is accused of the same thing and it's in the court system now. So, what do you think?
  2. To me, it sounds like something, somewhere, is blocking some of the scripting. Could it be your anti-virus/Firewall? Have you tried checking the settings on those? Will let DG handle this from here on out cause you're beyond my skills with this
  3. I might have a sneaking suspicion as to what this is... which browser are you using? If it's Firefox then make sure you let AFf through some of the plug-ins. I've had this problem in the past with it blocking some things until i let it through plug-ins i had.
  4. Thanks all! No, it's not a fun job but someone has to do it don't they?
  5. DG is going to have to look at those two to see if they qualify as stories or not. It's going to be a judgment call on her end since there are others in the archive similar.
  6. First, we can and HAVE banned by IP. We can also contact the site he posted on to get the stuff removed since it is obtained by a violation of the rules he ripped them from. If they are unreceptive, we go above them to the server and hosting site. They tend to be receptive to such complaints. While you are reading the rules, i suggest you also brush up on a few about behavior Joe, because you are starting to tread in dangerous areas and are looking at getting in trouble yourself with the snark and attitude.
  7. Joe, go read the rules of the site once more. There is a very specific one about NOT using without authors permission and not copying the work. Those both give us leverage in places like this.
  8. First thing you need to do is when you get them, LEAVE THEM UP! If you remove them, there is nothing we can do as that removes them from the database. Then hit the report review button on it. That sends us a report of it. Once we have it, we'll take it from there. Make sure that you tell us what the problem is and why you're reporting that. Beyond that, we'll certainly look into it and do what we can.
  9. Despite how bad that is, it's still considered a story and we can't delete it. Sorry.
  10. The problem is the verses and the beginning and the end. They very much look like song lyrics. You need to go in and add that you wrote those or cite the song they came from. When that is done let us know and we'll unhide it.
  11. It's hidden right now for an incorrect disclaimer. You were left a review on 6/13 that there was a problem with the disclaimer. Since it wasn't corrected it was hidden on 6/23
  12. you can still access them through your authors panel to edit them.
  13. Since i write quite a bit of original fiction, I use them a lot and am well acquainted with making them ( I came into fan fiction backasswards by starting with originals then moving to fan fiction). However, i do occasionally come up with an OC for some of my stuff. Mostly, though, my OC's tend to be animals (Daoi in Kryptonite (a bird youkai) and Karasshu in Supreme Conquest (a dog) are examples of those). They add something to the story but aren't a major character that takes over the plot line or are a self insert. Along with that, there are minor characters i create here and there that play bit parts in the story, again, just to add flavor to the thing. Though, currently, i have one in my newest story, Fallen Angel, that is the main 'bad guy' in the whole story. The red-eyed man is an OC but in a post canon setting (since this is a WIP I'm not going to give any more away than that). In the context of working with canon characters in a mostly canon setting, OC's are difficult to create and deal with. It's hard for them to not end up the Master of the Universe as i refer to them and it takes walking a fine line to not get them there that even seasoned writers have issues with. They also have a very bad rap because of the amount of self-inserts and Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters out there. Though, i done right and well, they add a dimension to the story that other things can't accomplish. However, i'm not the biggest fan of stories where the OC is one of the main characters. This has nothing to do with how well written a story is or how good the plot is, more to my taste. If i read, for example, a Harry Potter story, i want the main characters to be from the canon, not an OC. Those are beings that i am familiar with and don't have to get to know. Minor characters or ones that don't take on a lead role i can deal with. To me, this is just a preference is all, nothing more. It's not a commentary on those that write such things or the stories themselves. That may be the prevailing thought on the whole thing with others as well. Though, honestly, the amount of Mary Sue/Gary Stu and self inserts out there have injured the perception of OCs, that is fairly obvious i think. They are, sadly, the dominate force in OC characters and give well thought out, original beings a hard time.
  14. OK, in Naruto... this is the disclaimer you have.... what you need is to say I don't own Naruto and i make no profit off this story. The way you have it written there is no mention of profit and you've made it a character disclaimer this is the one in Original... in there somewhere you need to say any resemblance of characters to actual persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental. The way you have that written it doesn't say that.
  15. http://naruto.adult-fanfiction.org/authors.php?no=1296788318 there is her profile, she changed her name apparently
  16. Now this would work if all we had to do was worry about disclaimers. We don't. We have to worry about flamers, trolls, minors, plagiarists, people trying to pick fights with everyone else, cleaning up the archive, authors notes as chapters, review whoring... you get the picture. All of this takes time and we have a very limited number of staff to do it with. Not to mention the sweep to check for these disclaimers takes HOURS each week to just do. Some archives alone, the bigger ones, takes hours until themselves (Harry Potter alone took me 4 hours last sweep and that is just ONE archive). We aren't even talking about the time it takes to check those stories we left notices on, check ones that have been hidden and merge the sheets. At any given time we have MAYBE 4 of us doing this for the WHOLE ARCHIVE. Add to that there is nothing hard about doing disclaimers. The formula to do them is simple and spelled out clearly in the FAQ. I don't think that it is too much for us to ask that people follow that. The majority of those on the site get them right each time they post. it's a small minority that doesn't. We also leave notices every week for people to take care of problems with their disclaimers. Again, the majority get them right and fix the problem. Only a very few don't. Quite frankly, we don't have the time or people to do this so asking the authors to do it isn't too much to ask. If we started doing that, where does it stop? Fix other problem? Honestly, we don't have the time or people to do this.
