  3. If I make Legends/Myths/Lore a category in originals, I have to move them all from books to there. I won't have that category in two places. Let me ponder it, and take a gander at other stories that are also based on the same.
  4. @Madea There are no pair specific categories in the spots you're looking at, as I've not gotten there yet for sorting.
  5. Madea, which subcategories are you wanting to see? At this point in time, I'm still limited to only 3 levels of categories. The top level, which is non posting, the one below it, and one below that one. I am supposed to be getting unlimited levels in subcategories, and when I do, there will be more restructuring and sub sub sub cats and what not added.
  6. Actually, I should just remove that item, and unpassword the forum entirely. I've been planning to do that, just haven't had the time.
  7. The issue is the wording with the characters part. Where it says: I don't own any of the occurring characters from Naruto It should be: I don't own Naruto However, adding the Naruto owned by Kishimoto part is acceptable as well.
  8. Is that from her phone? I was able to get that error after seven consecutive attempts, where I REPEATEDLY reviewed, within seconds of each other. As long as you're not doing that, there is no limit. Doing review after review within seconds of each other looks like spamming to the program and so is not allowed. Bear in mind, I posted those 7 reviews in approximately 30 seconds TOTAL. So, I waited a minute, went back again to the same story, and was allowed to.

Between that, and RL commitments, I was woefully behind on processing for June, so the numbers are much lower than they normally would have been. This also means July's numbers are going to be bigger than normal, due to processing my June backlog. It all balances though...
  10. It would definitely be better for your friend to attempt to replicate and then DOCUMENT the issue using the same conditions. I cannot help suss out exactly what is happening, if the conditions are not the same. I use Safari often, as do many other users. I've not had issues with reviewing a story more than once. Not with any browser. There is no limit set to how many can be left to a story in a day, that I'm aware of.
  11. If you entered the information incorrectly, quite frankly, that is not my problem. We take self admissions as well as extensive research to support it as proof. As this archive is restricted for use to users aged 18 and above, we find anything that says you weren't 18 when posting, you USUALLY get deleted. As you fell in to the "old minor" group (meaning you joined the site before the current mod staff was working as group). To keep the site online and able to host the content that we do, we cannot and will not be lax in the enforcement of removal of underage users and underage user posted content.
  12. because we like so damn many of 'em?
  13. Bronxie and I share many authors as favorites. CJ Cherryh, Stephen King, Poe, and the others she mentioned. Then you have Roger Zelazny, absolutely LOVED the Chronicles in Amber. Michael Moorcock is another fave, with his various avatars of the Eternal Champion. The thing the authors ALL have in common, is masterful storytelling.

  15. To make me spend money on a book, whether it's a fresh purchase, or replacing an old copy, the stories have to grab me. The author has to be a good story teller. There are some things I read as a child, that I'll reread still, simply because it's a good story. Andre Norton, Walter Farley, and Marguerite Henry were my favorite authors when I was very young, as an example. Would I read those stories again? You bet I would. When I started broadening my reading horizons, thanks to my mother's sci-fi mag subscriptions, what engaged me was something which made me think. Made me look at it, and think that yes, this is possible, and how cool would it be if it actually happened? It just so happens that being a Trekkie (Mr. Roddenberry coined the term, by the way, and not in the way that many take it today), that in TOS, the screenplays were often written by science fiction, speculative fiction, and in some cases horror authors, most of whom I like to read. Robert Bloch wrote a screenplay for the series which he expanded further for inclusion in one of the Dangerous Visions anthologies, just as an example. Writing about encounters with alien species, for example, I'd think wouldn't be easy at all. You need to construct that world and its people and culture. You then need to visualize and then put in words, how that culture interacts with humans. I think reading tastes do vary. As a book buyer, I won't waste my money on something that doesn't grab me if I can possibly help it. When I have done that, those books go to a book store where I can trade in on something else, usually something I used to have, and no longer do.
  16. What was the EXACT error she encountered?
  17. Aysha is right with what he's telling you. Ambition is all well and good, but if once you've written something, and you know you won't enjoy reading it yourself, don't expect others to. The big thing is, at least this is what I've seen with the good writers on many sites, is that first and foremost, they write for themselves.
  18. Welllll....from what my published friends tell me, the act of publishing can be eviscerating, as you go through the copy edits and many other things BEFORE your book is ready to be published.
  19. As a paying customer, I tend to buy mostly science fiction and fantasy. I also like to read true crime stuff now and again as well.
  20. I'm going to respond as a reader. Me, I like plot and character development. I LOVE a slow burn in a story, for example. Thing is, with the stories I like which do this, and do this well, there is NOT an extreme emphasis on every little detail. The writer leaves some things to my imagination, which is perfect, as it ENGAGES me as a reader. You will find as you post, that depending upon the reader, you'll either be prompted to get to the naughty bits right away, or being told that you're doing a good job, and that yes, we'll certainly wait until the naughty bits fit with the plot! It's honestly a kind of pet peeve of mine as a reader, where I see a writer doing a damn good job, and then you have someone whining that they're not getting to the sex fast enough, because the damn site has "adult" in the domain name. I'd rather read a well written story with no naughty bits, than a piece of dreck that is nothing but that with bad spelling and bad grammar. PWP has its place, yes. Well written PWP is fun to read. But to disguise it as a plotted story, is an insult to anyone's intelligence.
  21. Your friend is welcome here on or after her 18th birthday. As the site is hosted in the US, we have to go by age restrictions in THIS country, not other countries, regardless of where the user is.
  22. What you're referring to is what most people consider "cross posting". For us, that term means that you post multiple copies of the same story to multiple archives on THIS site. What it means to most people though, is that it's posted at their site and elsewhere. We're glad to have ya, and if you want to post elsewhere as well, that's entirely up to you. We certainly won't tell you must post a story here, and only here.

  24. Well, I read older fandoms, so the writers there have been around for a long, long time, and are certainly not in this age bracket which tends to delete if it's not a fanpoodle review. So, I know that when I do actually have time to read, and leave a well though out review, THEY like it. I've also noticed, as I said before, that the older writers (meaning IRL age) are much more likely to take the concrit and RUN with it. Use it as it was intended, as a help to improve his or her writing. For that matter, I've also noticed that one leaves actual concrit and the author is NOT an American (and a young one at that), the review is much more likely to be left, and the author will again tend to run with it.
  25. The authors who actually accept concrit are those who've been around for a fair number of years. I've noticed the younger they are, the less likely they are to really LOOK at the concrit and take it for what it is, and LEAVE it for others to see.
