I'm going to second Melrick here. I've gotten good ratings for a no-sex flash fiction, and I've gotten my share of bad ratings as well. It really depends on what the reader is looking for, and maybe they hated my pairing, or thought I was violating canon too egregiously. Some people like graphic descriptions, and others prefer more polite terminology. But in the end, I write what fits my story and if people choose to rate me down because of that, so be it. I pay more attention to reviews than ratings, to be honest, and I love good constructive criticism, which you can't get in a rating.

DG, I'm still having a boatload of issues myself. I've refreshed, running FF5 on Win 7, and no joy here. My cache has been emptied multiple times, and I'm stuck with a Profile dropdowm menu locked open, no ability to access my setting, no RTE, and no SB or PMs...

Ugh, the "FLASHBACK!" thing makes me crazy as well. I've used flashbacks, and I've set them apart by the use of italics, showing a deviation from the rest of the chapter without the use of neon or shouting. But those glaring all-caps warnings just ruin the flow of a chapter for me, and act as a turn-off, no matter how good the story might be. On the topic, the endless list of how certain forms of dialogue will be shown also bugs me no ends. If you know how to do it, the reader will pick up on it without a clue card. And yes, I can do without the often far too intimate details of the author's life. If you're writing to work through an issue from your personal life, I applaud you, but if the story's not well written it's not going to hold me no matter how much I admire your pluck and determination.
