  2. I'm going to apologize in advance, I reread it before I submitted and it's a very concrit review, so please don't take offense! Oh, sorry that I was unclear in the review. In my defense, I was slightly tired at the time. When I said the middle, I was talking more about the area where Gerald entered the barn and that section. I understand what you were going for the eagerness, etc, but as pittwitch mentioned it was slightly corny and I think that is what threw me for a loop. The story set out with a very unique plot, descriptive and well thought out with just the right amount of tension and then they sorta just fell into each others arms. You mentioned that it was your first consensual m/m scene, so that may have played a role into it. What might have helped it a bit would be to follow through with the worry from earlier about Gerald's father discovering them, or play up the tension. Maybe even make Gerald work for it a bit since I got the sense that Harry wasn't as much emotionally involved earlier in the fic. As for the hours later? That worked for me. Detailed sex scenes are always nice, but sometimes leaving just hints and making the reader fill in the blanks works just as well. It allows us to imagine it how we want to! Plus, it's a flashfic. You expect some detail, but not a full play by play. All in all, I liked the story though. As I said, the multiple uses of the prompt was cool

I made no mention of the Candy badge! (Well, in the news yes, but I also said there that the site kept you busy! The site comes before badges IMO)

But yes they are quality badges and we are very lucky that you are coding AND graphics savvy!

  4. Wow this topic exploded! A lot of interesting posts put up and I agree with a lot of the information brought up. If anyone wants to read other blogs that deal with the same topics, I can post a few that I view on a regular basis. It's rather interesting to watch it all.
  5. Updates from Apollo TOS Review: Disclaimers Welcome to this week's TOS Review: Disclaimer Issue. Why are disclaimers important? Disclaimers are our biggest legal protection. As everyone knows, where fan fiction often gets in trouble is the fact that as authors, we are basing our stories off of copyrighted material. The most common legal argument that fan fictions writers and sites use to justify what they do is the Fair Use part of the copyright code. In this it states that copyrighted material can be used for transformative purposes, which is our loophole. However with that loophole we still need to make sure that we are covered as much as possible. The site has reached out to friends in the legal field to determine what steps are best taken and the response was disclaim, disclaim, disclaim! That being said, they provided with basic aspects that should be in any disclaimer which we have based our disclaimer policy off of. This doesn't just protect the site, this also protects you as a user. How you may ask? Because if an author gets up in arms about fan fiction, this protects you from being sued for profits as you state that you make no money from it. That being said, disclaimers vary depending on the section you write for so here is a basic breakdown of what we look for: Fan Fiction Name the world/title/fandom and say you don't own it. Clearly state no money is made. There are examples of what is needed, exactly, in the FAQ as well as in other areas. Real Person Fiction Name the person or persons and say you don't KNOW them. Not that you don't OWN them. State that it's a work of fiction. Clearly state no money is made. Original Fiction There are a number of requirements for original fiction/non fiction/poetry. This link has it all exactly. Public Domain These are things that copyright no longer applies to: Fairy tales, folk songs, religious works such as the Bible etc. For these, use the information needed in an original disclaimer and note the work that inspired such as 'Cinderella' or 'Snow White' etc. Basic things to keep in mind: - We need the fandom to be named, not the characters. - With original fiction we need to have a clear fiction and resemblance clause. That makes it so that somewhere down the road, John Smith can't come to us and say "Hey, that's based on me" and in turn we have to pull the work because without proof that it's NOT, we have no choice in such a for instance. That's where the resemblance clause is a protection to the author. - For original non-fiction, it's critical that the author clearly add the permissions clause. This is detailed in the link we posted earlier in the Original Fiction setting. Without having permission from the people you're writing about, it can cause the site issues in the future if the person you are writing about stumbles upon it and gets upset. While not directly related to disclaimers, since we are discussing Original Non-Fiction, I would like to take the time to point out that authors should not write about real minors unless the person they are writing about is currently of age and consent information can be provided. Along the same lines, in real person fiction again, if the real person is a minor they cannot be written about. So please, when one of our moderating staff asks you to correct a disclaimer, know that it is so the site can stay protected. The staff volunteer hours each week reviewing the archive to ensure compliance to our policies, so they honestly do deserve a round of applause for their dedication and not a hard time when they ask you to correct something. AFF 2011 Calendar Contest Wow, I can't believe it! There is just 24 hours left for submissions for the AFF 2011 calendar! 6. Out of town until tomorrow night - I'll see you all when I get back!

  7. Where do you live that it's not common? I see it all to often both at home bars as well as when I visit friends in other places. And yes, he uses exploitative psychology, but that's how assholes get women to fall for them... They play off weaknesses, vanity, etc to get attention. And since women love attention....
  8. Funnily enough, there is a reality outside of fiction behind people willing to date/fuck assholes/bitches/etc. Look at frats and sororities. 'Nuff said. There is psychology behind it all. There are a number of blogs that are devoted to it - It's called Game. And it works, over and over and over again. It goes back to the concept of Alpha, Beta and Omega males. I've read alot in regards to it and it never ceases to amaze me what women fall for...They call themselves seduction experts. Ugh! If you wanna read a blog that has such a variety of asshole moves that women fall for check out The Real Assanova. This guy is a king at Asshole Game and gets laid often for it. If even 1/2 of what he says is true, then it saddens me what women have come to.
  9. There isn't any specific prize, except your artwork being shown off on the calendar and other items if it wins as well as the satisfaction that comes from knowing your art is helping the site expand/earn money...

  14. There were a few reviews that I wanted to take the time to respond to, so here they are! Haunted Prompt: FairySlayer - I have a friend who can't go anywhere near places where a number of people died because of the voices, I just took it one step further that the ghosts follow in this piece. She hates it and it truly drives her nuts! Witch Prompt: JayDee - You have no idea how hard it was to write just 140 characters! It truly was an exercise in restraint, but you're right, the line totally works in the bedroom! pittwitch - LoL - Aren't most men wanton? Candy Prompt: pittwitch - Thank you! Melrick - LoL, yes... I get it, funny FairySlayer - Thanks for the comments on the timing. I wasn't sure if it went too fast, so I appreciate the validation! The singing was a tiny bit corny, true, but the damn thing was running through my head and I couldn't not put it in!!! Asexual Biped - Perhaps I made it too obscure, I was trying to relay that sex wasn't an option because protection wasn't available... Ah well, I guess the candy aspect works as well!

  22. So you'd be up for Slash (m/m, f/f) and het? How do you prefer to be contacted?
  23. Updates from Apollo TOS Review: Minors As you may have noticed last week, I did a review of part of AFF's T.O.S. regarding plagiarism. To ensure that everyone is aware of the major aspects of our Terms of Service, we will be doing a weekly column here in the news. This weeks topic will be minors on the forum/archive. I think we've done a very good job being clear on the fact that you must be 18 years old to access the site through the splash page, age verification page, putting the RTA tag on our pages, as well as the TOS for both the archive and forums. Since we are an adult themed site, this is something that all users need to be aware of and we can always use an extra set of eyes. Having any users under the age of 18 puts the site in a very precarious legal position. I can't tell you how many times over the years we've dealt with angry parents threatening legal action despite our many efforts to keep them out. I've heard all the excuses: "I just wanted to share my fiction," "I didn't know," "I'm not in the US, your rules don't apply," to "It's not fair." The fact of the matter is it does not matter. Unless you are 18, you are not welcome on AdultFanFiction.Net. We know that kids will be kids and ignore the many warnings, but for those that have ignored them and are reading this: We take your presence here seriously. We will find you. If you don't believe me, take a look at the statistics as of September 6th, 2010 found here. If you are a minor reading this, I ask that you turn yourself in to our moderator team. To all of our users that waited until they were 18? Thank you very much. Keep an eye out for any possible minors and please feel free to report it to our moderators so that we can investigate it and take appropriate action. Outlined below are the consequences: Minors First time offense User is deleted, and databased so we have record Second offense User is deleted, emailed and told not to return until after they're 18 Third offense User is deleted, re-emailed Fourth offense Account is taken over by the moderating team. As part of the take over, we edit the profile and put in sarcastic humor detailing why we took over the profile. Author is not allowed to return for a year. Where we've actually been able to find the true birthday, the return date is given in the profile. If they're persistent enough to come back after that, then the ban is permanent. Posting for minors Since minors aren't allowed on the site, posting for minors is also not allowed. Author is deleted, no notification, nothing. If part of a writing group, the writing group is deleted, as well as any of the individual profiles for authors IN the writing group. These authors are allowed to come back, with the understanding that if they do it again, they will be deleted again, and at that point not allowed to return. What determines 18 years old as the minimum age requirement US Laws determine this. The site is hosted in the US, so age restriction laws (based on content and age restricted materials, which which means the users MUST be 18 years of age or OLDER) for users in the US apply to the site. It doesn't matter what age of consent is outside of the United States, as that is not relevant to how we have to work with age restrictions within the site. So, the rule of thumb here is, if one is old enough to vote in the United States, one is old enough to use the site. If you live elsewhere than the US, the minimum age still applies, whether or not your country allows this access at a younger age. AFF 2011 Calendar Contest Wow, I can't believe it! There is just one week left for submissions for the AFF 2011 calendar! We have 28 downloads of the template, however no art has come in yet. Remember, submissions are due by 11-7-10, so put on the finishing touches on your pieces and start sending them in! If you haven't checked it out yet, see this topic for more information. Dribs, Drabs and Doggy Tales! Thank you to everyone who responded to our very third prompt, "Candy" We have 4 responses so far this week! Don't forget that the topic doesn't close until 11:59pm tonight, so there is still time to get in an entry. For everyone that has participated, we will be sending you the badge for this week that you can display where you so choose! I apologize that I was late sending them for week 2, I'll do better this week, I promise! If you've read the entries, please don't forget to review the story and let the Author know you liked it! As a reminder, the next topic is now posted, please visit this forum and starting Sunday 8am you can post your new entries! Funding Status Information to exact status is always found on the donations page. Currently, the site has $585.71 stored in PayPal. October's hosting costs have been paid and we are well covered for November! We do always appreciate donations though! Please see the donation page for further information on how. Tech Updates from DemonGoddess Clean up Update The following top levels have been created, or will be shortly: in books subdomain - Twilight in cartoon subdomain - Kim Possible (coming soon) in comics subdomain - DC 'Verse Comics, DC 'Verse Cartoons, DC 'Verse Movies in xmen subdomain - Marvel 'Verse Comics, Marvel 'Verse Cartoons, Marvel 'Verse Movies To help facilitate story moving, here is what can be done. This is something requires a member assist. Email to technicalsupport@adult-fanfiction.org, subject Cleanup req Where a subcategory does not yet exist (this applies to the DC and Marvel top levels), start with the category req for it. Then, link to the story you need moved to the new top levels. Re-add the story to the category if it already exists, if not, I will email you when it's created, and then add it then. DO NOT delete the old story. I need that for some of the data, which I will then add to the new upload. After I'm done with that, moving any attached reviews, and adding the story rating that was pre-existing, I will delete the old story. Alternatively, this can all be posted in the category requests forum. Once I've finished with any data migration needed done for that request, expect to see the topic closed. I would also ask where there are stories in process of migration already (such as Angel in the tv subdomain), that those users do this as well. If everyone who's affected by this can help and follow the instructions above it will make the process go a lot faster as it means I only need to move reviews and rates, and change the dates to reflect the original add date, also create subcats where needed. None of which takes all that long. If I have to move each story, it can take hours depending on how many chapters I have to move etc. So your help is greatly appreciated!! Forum Updates There was a minor update installed on 10/28. As always if you notice any bugs, please let us know. If I have time this weekend, I have found a new arcade system that will work with the major upgrade we did recently and will be installing it. That way you will have games to play yet again!!!
