@Sinfulwolf oh good you're a perfectionist too. Welcome to the club! I've been doing that constantly with chaptered fics for the last year. But I churned out the 3 Halloween fics I wrote in like 2 weeks. Complete switch around from last year. 

I still can’t focus on the one story, but since I’ve got the other one, it’ll definitely go up and  give that nice creepy Christmas feel….

I wouldn’t say perfectionist… but I do like to put out something good and entertaining at least.

You use the daily contacts? Those are a lot more expensive than the monthly ones I use. It isn't hard to clean them, so I just do that. The fact that I flip so much between glasses and contacts helps in not having to clean them every day, though I do have to clean the lenses throughout the day when wearing my glasses because of all the little dust mites floating around inside if I'm home all day.

Tinted moisturizer might work depending on the brand and such. I never bothered trying that myself, though. I sometimes don't even bother with make-up when wearing my contacts. If it's a particular occasion, I'll definitely put on at least some foundation and mascara, otherwise it's just depends on whether I feel like it or not.

I'm afraid of wearing sunglasses with my contacts for that reason when I do put on make-up! I haven't worn actual sunglasses in so long because of that.

@Arian-Sinclair I live in LA, so not wearing sunglasses is not really an option lol. Hey, maybe that’s why everyone here walks around with shades on indoors and at night! 

@Praetor I attribute a good part of what I love about my own writing skill to a healthy exchange between writers. Twenty years of exchanging stories to beta and giving each other advice is the way I chose to evolve. It’s what works for me. It’s why I’m active on this site. Of course it wasn’t all good advice, but you learn to pick and choose what to take and what to shrug off. Doing your own thing is absolutely important too. I just prefer a balance of both. 

I wrote a bunch of tips here actually, speaking of which, although I couldn’t remember where they were so I had to go hunting for them.

Not only is there all that BS, but there’s also the massive variation in what works for whom. I recently went to a panel discussion in which 5 writers talked about, among other things, hashing out story ideas. Some of them absolutely needed someone to discuss ideas with; some just needed to say them out loud, even to a rubber ducky; and one said that articulating his ideas made him lose all interest in them. 

Funny you should mention Law & Order @CloverReef because that just happens to be my favorite one!  The original, not the Special Victims Unit.

They film quite a bit for that show in my neighborhood. All of the Law and Order shows, actually. But I did get to meet Jerry Orbach once, and he was lovely.

I like svu mostly because ice T dealing with sensitive cases amuses the hell out of me. When i was into procedural dramas though my poisin was ncis. I liked criminal minds too until greg from dharma and Greg came into it. I don't like his eyebrows.

Fair enough! I hope you find what you’re looking for elsewhere. I think a lot of Friday the 13^th fics have much the same issue.

@Desiderius Price I tend to avoid the hells out of scat and WS when I don’t have to read it for the weekly sweeps. I’d almost rather read about sounding, which remains to date the only thing to actually have made me cry a little while sweeping. (I was very new, in my defense.)

@BronxWench I tend to say “scat” in the forums for the “eww” response.  In my writings, the tag will be a general CYA because I’ll mention characters taking a dump when it’s relevant to the story.  I can’t really fathom the “play” part of it, and I don’t want to.

Ha! I did decide on a title, thanks to Melrick. 

But yeah, summaries. Who needs em? From now on I’m just going to load the summary field with top secret mind control words that force everyone who’d enjoy the story to read it and review. Those words exist! I’m sure of it! We just gotta make them harry potter writers tell us what they are!

You can make it a multi-parter across years… it’s been done before.  ie, post the first part (a complete story, btw), this year, and post the second part next year.  I’ve done a sequel in before (ie, The Phone, and The Phone II).

If only I had that kinda patience, lol

Funny, I kind of do the same thing...  I'll start writing...   Sometimes two, three, half the novel, then I get a scene that I have to write...  And it's much later...  So I stop writing where I am to advance off to the later chapter/scene.  On occasion, I've done what you said, written a scene without writing anything else, because it's detailed, then I work it around…

And yeah, sometimes, it would be easier to write it backwards...  But then, wouldn't there still have to be a first line?  Whether it's a last line?

I’d suggest you totally blow the first line and move on… (haha that sounds silly ) you can always come back and play with it. you might get ideas about what you really want to do with the first line later. Don’t beat yourself up, just get into the meat of the story!

Sometimes I’ve found myself writing backwards too.  Of course, those scenes far off will typically be more plot critical (gives me an idea of how it’ll play down), though there’s still frequently a sexual scene, toying with my characters, leaving me to figure out where I’ll put it (because the scene will be good).  I’m sure I’d keep a shrink occupied for their entire career if they ever cared to really analyze it in me.

friggin loooove kids in the hall and orphan black. Never heard of redwall, I’ll have to check it out!

Older cartoon kinda meant for kids. Based off a “Children’s” book series by Brian Jacques. Basically this fantasy world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals… who then slaughter the fuck out of each other. Seriously, the first book “Redwall” was a bunch of brigand rats besieging an abbey that had to learn how to defend themselves, including the fact that they had to take lives in order to protect all those who took refuge in their abbey.

And that book was turned into a Kids TV show.
