  1. In my family, the rule of thumb is that one swat properly applied is all it takes. As long as you're consistent, firm, and don't swat the kid over every little mistake, it works. And if you start it when they're young enough, it's more about the sound than the pain - and will usually teach the kid that that tone of voice it goes with means he/she is in trouble and ought to behave. I've heard of and seen spanking being over-done, of course - I think most of us have. But some kids just don't learn without that physical discipline, and sometimes my boyfriend, my brothers and I were among them. Of course, my bf maybe got lucky and wasn't spanked as much as he should have been, because his dog would sit on him when he was doing stupid things. ("Sit! Stay! Behave! ... Good human.")
  2. I like this idea.... I mean, I'm all for weres and otherworldly creatures, so this is awesome. Now. My questions are: would you mind if it was yaoi? And: does the person who's not a were need to be human, or can they be some other type of being? (This is up for debate in my head, and oh, the noise!)
  3. I also find myself particularly inspired by your fantasy idea.... I may take a spin at that myself.... (I probably shouldn't, as I have plenty of things to write anyway.... But the idea's wonderful and meshes decently with a fan fic I'm working on.) Now, my only question with it is: may I go futuristic with it? In which case the rowing of the galley would probably be more a case of being chained to a spot in the engine room, but if I think on it some more I can probably find a way to make it quite doable. Edit: And when I say the idea meshes decently with a fan fic I'm working on, I don't mean I'm going to make it a fan fic or use bits of it IN a fan fic.... I mean that if I go futuristic with it like I'm thinking about, it will take me in a completely different direction from the fan fic and make a wonderful compare/contrast situation. Such insanity is how I get most of my inspiration.
  4. Was having a rant session with a friend one time, and didn't know quite what to tell her except that "Everybody has their share of issues." ...only my fingers got ahead of my brain and it came out: "Everybody has their share of idiots." Called my bf "Mr. Man" one time - redundant, I know, but I was teasing him. So he tries to tease me back...and calls me "Mr. Woman." *facepalm* My sister has yet to let us live it down. I will admit that my rushed typing of 'puzzled' leaves something to be desired, though.... Because 'puxzled' just doesn't quite make sense.
  5. For me, writing about the darker side of things - emotions, state of mind, violence, gore, etc. - is a way of sharing my personal experience with those in need. (Not to say I'm a war veteran or anything; I can't enlist because I can't take orders, I know that much about myself. It's just that my family hunts, so I know a decent bit about violence, bloodshed and gore anyway, and I've got a fair bit of experience with mental issues, my mom's after-rape trauma and behaviors, and whatnot, too.) Mostly when I write dark things, it's because either I'm trying to work through something or I know someone who is. Sharing experience helps. A lot. Sexual kinks.... I write those because I'm into bondage, I have a visceral need to be made to submit by someone I trust - my bf - because I flat can't fully relax and just go with the flow otherwise, and toys and unresolved sexual tension are wonderful ways to up the ante in an intimate situation. Exhibitionism I might write about, but frankly that's on my strictly-fantasies list because while the risk might be thrilling, getting caught...wouldn't be. And if/when I write a story with exhibitionism, I will throw that into the tale because it's something that should be thought of. I thoroughly agree and/or understand where Attackegg and JayDee are coming from. If only there were more out there so willing to be themselves, with no limits. If society won't accept you as you are, at the very least here online where we can be relatively anonymous and share the things that really matter to us, then there's something wrong with society. And if those of us who are writing about dark things can't do so here and be accepted, then what are we supposed to do? Suppressing the need to express these - urges, cravings, whatever you want to call them - that only makes them worse. Make sense? Not trying to call anyone unaccepting or a bigot or anything, I just am a brutally honest person and this site is somewhat of a haven for we oddballs and outcasts and deviants, and I both applaud and am grateful to you for trying to understand (a mind as open as yours is a wonderful thing). Just trying to point out where I'm coming from. And anyway, there's always the search, and you never have to click on any links except the ones required by the mods and admins, so really this place is for everybody. *frown* Perhaps a better way for me to put the above bit is: this is a place where we can go and not have to hide, where we can be one of the crowd even if not all of the crowd is okay with our particular tastes, and we treasure that.
  6. Kurt Vonnegut, Dan Brown, Raymond Chandler, J. K. Rowling, Margaret Mitchell, Cory Doctorow.... Freaky - apparently I write first-crush romance like Stephen King. I blame my mother.... She got me hooked on Stephen King in the first place.... Guilt like James Joyce, though.

    The AU thing

Personally, I rather like well-written AUs. But I have a thing about no OOC-ness. That completely turns me off whatever I'm reading. So I tend to be picky about what I read and write. Well. I suppose I should say that I won't write it if I can't see myself keeping it in character. Mind you, I write AUs and cannon stories and have fun with both - and difficulties with both, depending on the situations I put the characters in and the characters' own personalities - and I like to try my hand at rare/odd yaoi pairings if I think I can possibly do them justice. (This has made for a number of...let's be nice and call them insane...drabbles in the Bleach category, but as I and my readers tend to find the things entertaining, that's praise enough.) There's a wonderful lady on AO3 who goes by blackkat (she's black.k.kat on FFnet) who let me adopt a few of her stories.... One of them is only slightly AU, but the other one (a Bleach story) has the Zanpakuto as dragons. Kat called it a crack story, but either it was really addictive crack or those of us who read that particular one of her 64 Damn Prompts were just completely taken with the notion; I have no few readers who came to my Inconceivable from her Incalculable and enthused that "Someone's continuing Kat's dragon story! Yesss!" She left such a wide area open for expansion that I'm having a blast with it. Zanpakuto personalities as dragons, capable of independent action.... Makes for tons of awesome. Plus the whole world-building thing, since I like to take bits of canon and mix them into the AU plot line.... In one way I guess you could say that doing so is cheating, or makes it easier, but the thing about mixing canon details into an AU story is that first you have to know how much is too much, how much should be discarded. And then you have to figure out how to fit it all together into one story. Complicated and time consuming, but ultimately worth it. I don't stick only to medieval AUs, either. Took on a challenge from Clara Barton on FFnet; she wanted someone to write a Gundam Wing/Three Musketeers crossover. Normally I can't stand crossovers (because they are so very, very rarely done well), but this idea reeled me in before I knew what was what. So in order to combine the two series and their respective plot lines, I had to make it a futuristic AU - and while I'm only now working on the second half of the prologue, it looks to be insanely entertaining. And after talking it over with Clara and the other wonderful woman who expressed interest in the crossover (and is a friend to both myself and Clara), I decided to draw from the Disney version of The Three Musketeers...on account of I can't do anything without humor and the Disney version is funnier than most. It's an insane and somewhat daunting task (I had to scrap most of the medieval and current societal layouts entirely and create the system I'm using nearly from scratch) but it's so very fun. The first half of the prologue reads like a movie trailer, so Snow and Clara tell me. Simply put, AUs are wonderful things when done right - but often enough they aren't, so I...dabble.... I read a few chapters if the summary interests me, and if it seems good then I'll run with it. If not, hey, that's fine too. I'll just leave. Why make my eyes and brain suffer through something I'm not enjoying?
  8. I get my inspiration pretty much everywhere. Sometimes it's from a story or book I've read, sometimes it's a movie, sometimes a video game.... Often it's a conversation with friends or my bf, too, and music I think is a given. And randomly I'll look up quotes on a subject (just one word, any word, that stands out to me at any given time, and I'll find either a quote book or a site for quotes and search that one word). Strange and motivating things I find.... To a degree I write to please my readers (reviews inspire me because they're awesome), but at the same time I have this quirk: I cannot make myself write any character in a way I see as OOC. It's like dragging fingernails down the chalkboard of my brain; it just doesn't work, it makes me wince, and I wind up erasing it all and then patching up the resultant mess. One particular bit of inspiration was a combination of hilarious and unfortunate (I curse myself because originally my story Soaked supposed to just be a one-shot for a friend who'd recently gotten back in touch, and it's so far from that it's not even funny).... Anyway, I was writing my Final Fantasy VII story Soaked for a friend, and Reno decided he wasn't getting enough attention so he had me add a few bits about his antics. Well, one of them was a list of disasters that made a mockery of "The 12 Days of Christmas" - song, not movie - and when the two friends who read that series first responded, both begged me to write something with that parody. So I was trying to find a way to connect the two stories - and let the guys flip who topped for once - and Reno sticks his head in again and mopes because he's not in a relationship and therefore isn't getting laid regularly. So now what had been intended as a one-shot is a chaptered story in 3 series, one of which includes Christmas music parodies (Reno's version of "Jingle Bells" is explicit; he started singing it to me in my head while I was in the shower)...and there's going to eventually be a side series of one-shots to connect into this trilogy, all about a different threesome. It's insane. If you're interested, some of the quotes which have inspired me recently are as follows: "I've got to follow them - I am their leader." - Alexandre Ledru-Rollin "I was born modest; not all over, but in spots." - Mark Twain "My specialty is detached malevolence." - Alice Roosevelt Longworth "In Chinese, the word for crisis is wei ji, composed of the character wei, which means danger, and ji, which means opportunity." - Jan Wong "No one provokes me with impunity." (Or, in Latin, "Nemo me impune lacessit." It has the translation in my quote book, too.) - motto of Scotland "(Courage) a perfect sensibility of the measure of danger, and a mental willingness to endure it." - William T. Sherman "I am not absent-minded. It is the presence of mind that makes me unaware of everything else." - G. K. Chesterson "When the mind is thinking, it is talking to itself." - Plato "It is very easy to forgive others their mistakes. It takes more gut and gumption to forgive them for having witnessed your own." - Jessamyn West "It seldom pays to be rude. It never pays to be only half-rude." - Norman Douglas "Lord Birkenhead is very clever but sometimes his brains go to his head." - Arthur R. M. Lower Also thinking of searching for quotes to do with 'hangman' recently...have yet to get around to it. (Ehh, so I'm morbid.... It makes the dark side of life more entertaining.)
  9. Hm.... Maybe.... Voldemort is winning, and one of the guys (Remus, Sirius or James) gets taken by Death Eaters, during a break or from school itself, whichever you prefer. You can make the torture however dark you like, I don't mind. (D/s is something I've a fondness for, so if you decide to include that I'll be thrilled, and bondage is a wonderful thing. S/m is fine, pet play is fine, underage is a possibility but not strictly necessary, etc. If you have any questions about which kinks to include, or some I didn't mention that you'd like to use, by all means, say something.) And of course there should be a rescue (heroic or...not so heroic, which might be more difficult to pull off but would be wonderfully entertaining, especially if you used a string of happy accidents - or incidents which were made to look like accidents, say by Lucius or Narcissa, since they're not so strictly on the dark side?), followed by the recovery period, during which of course there would have to be some traumatic issues to work past. If you want a canon-compliant story, you can always end it with a scene where Pettigrew's just been named Secret Keeper, but if you'd rather mess with pairings (say, James and Sirius together) then I don't mind a non-canon-compliant story. And, hey, I love yaoi, so if you decide to go for that, I have no objections. If you opt for non-canon-compliant, then I'd like to see it continued until Voldemort is defeated, though if you don't feel you can or want to do that long of a story, that's fine, too. Some things don't work for some authors. *shrug* I've run into my own problems. (As in, I can't stand to write characters OOC, period. So my stories take forever to update.) Anyway, let me know what you think!
  10. Well, agreed, in Shades of Grey Kisuke isn't just a sub. He has to be pushed into a frame of mind where he can submit. Because he's too used to taking care of everyone else and disregarding his own needs, and he needs to be able to let go, to let someone else take care of him every now and then. Which Ichigo did a pretty good job of. So my take on it is that, for all that Kisuke is essentially a switch and can top or bottom, emotionally speaking he was the sub in that particular kinky session. ...talking about all this is making my mind flood with ideas. For both the Renji/Kisuke and the Byakuya/Kisuke.... A little more stirring.... Hm.... Any other particularly good yaoi pairings you like, or stories? Do you want me to post my drabble collection here on AFF?
  11. Thanks for the praise (I'm tired and PMSing, and it made rather giddy and gleeful). And we're all new at one time or another. No worries. I've seen Urahara written as a sub before, and a couple of times it was done well. Particularly...there's a fic that's on FFnet, http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8467503/1/, which starts out as Aizen/Kisuke and turns into Ichigo/Kisuke. Also, if you search here, there's a wonderful sub Kisuke bit in an Ichigo/Urahara story called Shades of Grey. As to Shuuhei and Starrk...well, I've done it in drabble form (I have my drabble collection current on AO3 and FFnet, same username because I like readers to be able to find me) but nothing else. And the drabbles...seem to consistently give either me or my readers ideas, so I also have a foursome in the planning stage thanks to a combination of Gypsygrrl, Kefirasfangirl and myself, on FFnet. My drabbles.... I do a lot of random pairings, whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Probably the most crack-ish one so far is my Shinji/Starrk, but it had everyone laughing so I guess it turned out well. (I wouldn't have written it except that my mind kept presenting me with lewd images of them, so I gave in and wrote. My mind wouldn't let me do anything else.) Oh! And, Raymy, this should make you happy: for Inconceivable, the dragon story? The sword sticking (forgive the pun; everyone was so enthused with Ichigo's thoughts on "sword sticking" in the third chapter that the phrase, ahem, stuck....) - the sword sticking is in chapter five, the upcoming chapter. Or at least it will be; I'm not done with it yet. Now, back on subject for the thread, I'll say this: I'm currently debating between an AU and a canon plot, and I'm not sure just yet which is going to work out first, or better, or whatever. But I've got a few ideas rattling around in my head, gathering...I'd say dust bunnies, due to the way it looks from the outside, but in actuality they're plot bunnies getting swept up into the story. (Don't ask about the mental imagery; my mind is a strange place to be. Literal, metaphorical, and inexplicable, all in one. Like I said, strange.)
  12. No problem! (Actually, I'm also working out a plot for a Byakuya/Urahara story, too, and THAT one's giving me hell because I'm not so good with Byakuya. But I promised a friend I'd take on the challenge of those two because she's a major Byakuya fan, so I'll manage somehow.)
  13. Any particular Final Fantasy you want them from? V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, etc.? Does it matter?
  14. Lol, no problems. I used to get confused on the names as well. Alright. I'll bump this pairing up (no pun intended) my list of stories-to-be and talk to a friend or two about my ideas, see how fast it takes off. Maybe do an AU and a canon-ish version. (Because my mind is plying me with dirty ideas just to lure me into taking on even more.)
  15. Hm.... I've actually been thinking about a few that can at the very least head in this direction, but I'm not entirely sure when they'll be posted.... Let's see.... Ah! Yes. Here are a few pairings I have vague plot outlines thought up for, pick any you'd like and I'll get to work on it/them (though just so you know, I also have a number of other stories that deserve their writing time as well, so updates may and probably will be sporadic). Shuuhei and Urahara Shuuhei and Starrk Renji and Urahara Ichigo and Urahara If you don't mind full AU I can even throw in other pairings, but those are the ones I've been debating that are at least relatively suitable for in-canon yaoi. (Relatively.)
  16. I'm interested, I just don't know how often my muses will let me participate.... But I'm game to do what I can.
  17. Hm.... I like the old west, mail order bride thing.... But I don't think I can do it justice with Hanataro, and I'm iffy about it with Ishida. I'll try to build a good plot line with Ishida, but at this point I can't promise anything.
  18. Tomoe's ♥♥ FanFiction Writer's Meme ♥♥ 1. How about a brief introduction of yourself? Call me Cuzosu or Foofie, whichever you prefer. Cuzosu is a nickname that refers to one of my cousins as much as to me, lol. Could say I'm a nice person but that'd probably be a lie. After all, why be nice when you can be honest/literal? If the truth hurts it's usually because you lied to yourself. Ever get the feeling you're brutally honest? My family tends to be brutally honest most of the time--and they tell me I'm too brutally honest. I'm also very much a dog person, but all animals seem to love me to pieces. For example, a friend had two dominant cats that couldn't walk within five feet of each other without hissing or starting to fight. He came downstairs one day to see me with one at each knee, petting them both, and they weren't even grumbling at the other one for being so close because they were too busy purring at me. 2. Fabulous! And what got you into fanfiction to begin with? It was another form of telling stories. Using words. 3. I see, so what kind of fanfiction do you like to write? Let's see.... So far there's Naruto, Final Fantasy VII, Star Ocean 3, Get Backers, Black Blood Brothers.... I have plans for a few more but so far the ideas are still spooling in my head. When they're ready they'll swamp me and make me write them. Until then I'll gather more ideas. 4. Do you tend to write the same pairings/characters? Or are you a fandom whore? Naruto, I'm fairly flexible with as long as I like the characters and feel like they'd work well together. Final Fantasy VII I'm really flexible with (so far there's of course Reno and Rude, then there's Reno and Vincent, then there's Zack and Tseng, upcoming are TsengxZackxReno and AngealxGenesisxSephiroth, not to mention regular AngealxGenesis, Vincent and Genesis, AngealxZackxGenesis, RufusxVincent and RenoxRufus. Dominance switches between the guys, lol). Star Ocean 3 I started out writing one pairing, it's switched to a threesome and then a foursome (they wouldn't quit adding more lovers) and so now there's an additional few pairings I'll write there as well. Though there are a few characters I just plain won't write love lives for. Black Blood Brothers, so far I only have one pairing that interests me. ZelmanxJiro. 5. What is your more popular fanfic and why do you think people like it so? So far I'd have to say the one I've gotten the most consistent and enthusiastic reviews on is posted on The Seventh Heaven (and is a Final Fantasy VII fan site/online home). Soaked and its sequel, Hide and Peek, going on to the third in the series, 12 Days of Christmas at ShinRa HQ. Why? Because it's hot, it's in character, Fei drew a pic to go with it, and it was a gift fic limited only by my imagination. Well, my mind doesn't draw the lines most do, lol, so it turned out really well. And Reno and Zack are warping popular Christmas standards. (Jingle Bells, 12 Days Christmas, and the Night Before Christmas.) Plus there's hot yaoi, a threesome and mention of another threesome. Also, apparently I did the emotional part exceedingly well. 6. Forget other people, what is the fanfic you've written you're most proud of? Good question. I don't have a particular one I'm most proud of. I loved Soaked, Hide and Peek, and am dying of laughter trying to get 12 Days of Christmas at ShinRa HQ started. The Prints series led into OPaP and then Halloween Hi-Jinx (and I all but died laughing 'cause I'm a perv and caused all sorts of chaos via Reno), which in turn led to Seeing Red (and that is another completely awesome fic. Takes Reno and Vincent through some hard times, but with luck they'll come out the other side fine). Surreptitious Selfishness is my ZelmanxJiro that has plot like you wouldn't suspect for an excuse to get them in bed, lol. The rest were mostly just for comedy, lol, and I succeeded with that. 7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What are the most difficult aspects of writing you struggle with? Writing's easy as long as the story is willing to adapt itself, because the characters balk if they go OOC. 8. Write a few sentences of so of your favorite pairing or character. But I don't have a particular favorite. So I'll throw out a line that anyone who's read Soaked (on the Seventh Heaven) will understand: Reno: saving men's dignity, one piece of pizza at a time. 9. Are there any fanfiction trends/clichés you can't stand or are just sick of? KakashixSakura 'bout kills me. KakashixIruka is WAY overdone. Anything with Cloud or Aeris I can't read. In Bleach I don't often read anything with Ichigo, and never anything with Rukia. That's all I can think of off the top of my head. 10. Are you guilty of any of the fanfiction trends/clichés you now hate? Or any other ones? Reno and Rude is the only one that I've written that is also trend-ish. 11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still like/participate in it? Star Ocean 3, CliffxAlbel. And yes, very muchly so. It somehow went from MM to MMF to MMFM. Not that I minded, lol. 12. Name your OTPs or most frequently written pairings/characters and explain what it is about them you love to write. RenoxRude, because Reno's the only one who sees the full depth of Rude, who loves to make and test explosives, for example. CliffxAlbel because it's just hot and so easy to see. CliffxAlbelxMirage because, again, it's hot and easy to see. Same for CliffxAlbelxMiragexFayt. RenoxVincent because Reno's a daredevil and Vincent needs drawn out of his shell, so to speak. RufusxVincent because Rufus is just that arrogant and needs taken down a few pegs sometimes. RenoxRufus because Reno's the only TURK who flagrantly defies rules and authority, and Rufus needs that. TsengxZack and TsengxRenoxZack because Tseng needs pets, and what better pets that a puppy and a kitty? XD Besides, Reno was feeling lonely. AngealxGenesis because I like to play with old relationships, and AngealxGenesisxZack because sometimes it's good to introduce new things to old relationships. ZelmanxJiro because they're totally hot together and everyone I've talked to agrees: Zelman would totally go for Jiro. 13. What would you call your writing "style"? Good question. I don't write anything without humor, although I do really lovely explicit yaoi when I get going. Also I like to explore the depths of people and relationships in my writing, so.... I don't know. A mix? 14. Do you read other people's fanfic? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most? I read other peoples' fanfics. And what I read depends on what's updated and how my mood is. 15. Name one thing you'd LOVE to write, but have been too afraid or shy to do. .... Can't think of anything. If it interests me enough to want to write it, I'll get around to it some day. 16. Do you have trouble taking criticism? Or worse yet, do you have the dreaded bloated ego? Constructive criticism I can take. Flames just tick me off, which tends inspire a thorough dressing-down that covers everything that ticked me off at the time. I don't think my ego's bloated. If it was I'd be posting more of my works; as it is I don't post anything until I'm satisfied with it at least, if not quite pleased. 17. When you write, is there anything that helps? Music? Quiet room? Repairing toaster ovens? Music, mostly. Would you believe I wrote a yoai sex scene to a mix of Pat Green's "Wave on Wave," Disney's Mulan theme "I'll Make a Man Out of You," some Native American music, and Wade Hayes' "Tore Up from the Floor Up"? 18. What inspires you? Almost everything that catches my attention and holds it. Sometimes it's my friends, sometimes it's the cats, sometimes it's memories, sometimes it's whatever I'm playing/reading/doing/hearing/seeing. 19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction experiences and yourself as a writer? I read until I was satisfied that I knew what a good story was like, then I started writing. The downside is that if it doesn't interest me I really can't write it. But I still keep reading to make sure I still know how to write the styles I like to read. 20. Tag some friends, because they'll have you for it. Maybe later.
  19. Interesting.... I will see what I can come up with, but no promises. I haven't written anything for X yet and if it doesn't turn out well I won't post it. I'm perfectionist like that. PM me if you want to bounce more ideas for it off me. I'm willing to consider most things, and if it interests me and I have enough ideas I tend to be able to write quite well.
  20. I may go ahead and do something with this challenge. I'll probably twist things around a bit, though, lol. May do some explicit yaoi-ness, other parts not. How AU do you want it?
  21. Lol, well, I've been kinda distracted, so if you want some ideas.... There's a GW challenge I've been meaning to answer (for a friend) that I've had neither time nor sufficient inspiration for. Either I'll get around to it later or I won't, I guess. If you're still looking for ideas, PM me and I'll send you the info. All I ask is that I get a link to the story once you've made it, and that you credit myself and Fei (who gave me the requirements) for the ideas given. *shakes head* I was tossing ideas back and forth with a my bf's sis about a Final Fantasy VII Halloween fic (which I've written)--and then we got to looking at my Gundam Wing, and things went strange from there. Well, strange...-ish? Differently weird than my usual, I guess I should say.
  22. Lol. Okay, the next time I remember to bring my flash drive with me when I get on the comp, I'll send you some of my stuff.
  23. Lol. I understand that. So which would you prefer? Or would you like me to send you both original works of mine and the Naruto collaboration?
  24. I don't know about other people, but I don't tend to detail the orgasms as much because mine make me go mindless. And I have a rather feral side anyways. It's all teeth, nails, and closer, further, harder, NOW! if you know what I mean. The only real differences are how overwhelming they are and how many happen. Although last weekend my boyfriend had me so worked up I had three in a row (pent up orgasms... He held me back until the end!) and it literally hurt him to keep pushing in. Lol. I guess he had cramps after that--which had me laughing when he told me. Love him dearly, but he brought that on himself.
  25. Lol. Well, actually I'm collaborating on a Naruto AU fic with two friends right now, and we've all agreed that it'd be cool to see it in manga form... Only, none of us can draw it. Would that work? Or would you prefer something original? I can send you some of my other works to draw if you'd like.
