  1. It’s never an easy decision to make, but I’ve had to make it: all my active stories are now officially on hiatus. Nothing (very) bad’s happened – at least, this time around, nobody is dead, dying, or terminally ill. Life’s just thrown us a curveball and Cold and I are even busier than usual. Most days, I barely have the energy to handle day-to-day work, let alone time and energy to write. Heck, I haven’t even gotten anything written on my most recent chapter of my novel in a few months now; that’s how crazy it’s been lately. Since my fanfiction may not be updated anytime soon, I decided to head it off at the pass before readers start deciding I’m dead. ...yes. That’s always a possibility, considering how infrequently I can update. It sucks, but better to give myself permission to not write than continue to bludgeon the desktop with my head when my brain is too stress-fried to write. On FFN and AO3, I put notes in my current stories, and updated the summaries of the stories that have fallen by the wayside. AFF frowns on author’s notes as chapters, so I’m not sure where to go beyond adding something to the summaries. I hope the fanfiction writer’s curse has missed more of y’all than it’s hit, that spring is treating you well, and that this doesn’t last too many months. Now if any of y’all need me, I’ll be in my burrito-blanket muttering there’s no place like home and fuck-this-shit-I’m-out.

  2. Well of course never say never. But I have for instance noticed that there are variations on things that I have written about which don’t really appeal to me. I’ve actually looked at it and it didn’t do anything for me. So I can at least say that I probably won’t be writing that.

  3. I do have my limits too, though I suspect those lines will be crossed at some point… Seems that whenever I say “never”, my brain starts mulling on it.

  4. Yeah, I get trying to leave your comfort zone as a writer. However, I think there’s a benefit to having limits. There are certain things I just won’t write about. Although I have often pushed my own boundaries. As an example, I generally didn’t focus on a specific character in my main fandom, but more recently I have, particularly in my recent stories. Now I’m doing similar stuff with it in other fandoms.

  5. While those are the “icks” that need to be warned for, sometimes its good for writers to venture outside their comfort zone on writing. (Halloween stories are a good spot to do that too… there’s one of mine that I deliberately went for snuff.) And yep, stripping would be a form of exhibitionism, as well as general public nudity (which I’ve got a lot of in my stories).

  6. That’s interesting. I don’t think that stripper is one of the story codes, or performances in general is one. At least from what I can see. I suppose the closest thing is exhibitionism which I think is what I used for my fic so far.
