would that be called a village or something else?

We use homestead still up here, but generally for a single family’s place. I’d go with hamlet. I think we have another word for it but I forget!

my thought was something like a …... not a town, there is maybe 5-6 farms, 1-2 shops but nothing too major, if you didnt know it was there you would walk right past it kind of place.

It’s entirely possible you’re overthinking this. Go with hamlet and move on, that’s my advice.
