Melrick Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Version 6 of the Firefox browser hasn't been out long, and they already upgrade it to version 7? Good god, even Microsoft aren't that bad! Here's an idea, Mozilla, how about you actually work on creating a half-way decent browser in the first place so you don't have to abandon it and upgrade within a ridiculously short time of release? I pity the poor developers. They've only just updated their stuff to make it compatible with version 6, and now they have to do it all over again. Firefox used to be such an excellent browser. Rock solid and steady all the way, where as IE was as solid as a bag of pus. But now IE is improving and Firefox is getting worse, much much worse. I wonder just how good version 7 of Firefox will be? I guess we'll know if they decide to release version 8 next month. Quote
DemonGoddess Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 So far, it's not bad. But we'll see. This is not unexpected. Versions 2, 4 and 6 were utter shit and unstable. Quote
BronxWench Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 Trying out 7 myself as we speak, and hoping that it's not unspeakable like 6... Quote
Danyealle Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 (edited) Firefox becomes less awesome with each version they put out. I'm sticking with my ancient version! Edited September 28, 2011 by Danyealle Quote
BronxWench Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 So far 7 is behaving. Well, at least I haven't had the urge to choke the life out of it. Quote
DemonGoddess Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 The problem with the ancient versions are vulnerability. If it wasn't for that, I would find and install an earlier version. Quote
Danyealle Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 3.6 is still getting updates against those, DG. I just updated to 3.6.23 yesterday so they are still supporting that one. Quote
BronxWench Posted September 28, 2011 Report Posted September 28, 2011 ::nods:: Teengirl is on that as well, and she updated to 3.6.23 yesterday as well. Quote
DemonGoddess Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 But, as I told you in IM, the issue I have with 3.x and earlier, are known vulnerability issues for machines running Win 7 Quote
BronxWench Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Teengirl's still running XP. I'm the only one running Win7 so far... just call me a guinea pig and glue a carrot to my ass... Quote
ApolloImperium Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 *grumbles* And here i am on 5, waiting... DG keeps talking me into upgrading things on my computer... Quote
Melrick Posted September 29, 2011 Author Report Posted September 29, 2011 Windows 8 is coming out next year, so there's another operating system to get used to, just when I'm starting to get the hang of Windows 7. Quote
BronxWench Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 Really? Win8? Oh, fer feck's sake... That's a year of waiting for (a) Microshit to debug it and (b) everyone else to write drivers for it. Quote
DemonGoddess Posted September 29, 2011 Report Posted September 29, 2011 8 is being developed more for touchscreen devices than anything. So, while they may be releasing it late next year, there's no reason to change from 7 to 8 unless you have a touchscreen device. Quote
Melrick Posted September 30, 2011 Author Report Posted September 30, 2011 Actually, Windows 8 is definitely the next full operating system for personal computers. The one major difference is that it'll have support to enable it to be used on Tablet devices and the like, as well as PC touchscreen support. But it will have a whole bunch of other changes, like a new user interface and a new file system. The real question is if it'll be a real improvement over Windows 7 for the regular user; i.e.; non-touchscreen users. Even if it is, I won't be upgrading for at least 12 months after it comes out, to give them time to release patches for the inevitable bugs. Oh, and Firefox has released an update, already. That doesn't fill me with confidence. Quote
DemonGoddess Posted September 30, 2011 Report Posted September 30, 2011 I always wait with new OS releases to see what exactly is entailed. As it's a year off to begin with, it's a bit early to even say whether or not it'll be worthwhile. Given Microsoft's track record, I expect this next version to be as craptastic as Vista. Quote
