Guest deathsockcat Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Ok, so I've been reading some of the stories, and I just can't figure out some of the description codes. Lemon? Lime? Slash? Could someone please fill me in on the local lingo? I'm terribly confused...
Guest Big Samurai Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Ol' Tesla's got the definitions right, but there's a bit of leeway. For example, I'd always been taught that a lime might hint at sex or various shenanigans, but never show any, certainly not something like oral or softcore. Guess it depends on which fictionary you read.
Nanaea Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Wikipedia has a fanfiction glossary which I linked to in this post. It's pretty exhaustive, and should give you a fairly good understanding of the lingo.
Guest Alien Pirate Pixagi Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Lordie, do people have too much time on their hands or what, to come up with so much 'fan speak'? Well... duh... I mean, geeze, we hang out with eachother on forums all day, or write fanfiction for hours on end.
Guest Knorg Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 Jargon pervades every grouping everywhere. WYSIWYG, for example, is a generally computer related acronym that wouldn't ever apply to, say, Patricia Araujo. The only real advice I can given you, is that where lime is usually fairly soft, lemon harder... never click on a story labled "IRN-BRU".
Nanaea Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 never click on a story labled "IRN-BRU". I'm almost afraid to ask, but...what does that stand for?
Guest echtrae Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I suspect, due to the delivery, that if you don't already know, you probably don't want to know.
Guest Alien Pirate Pixagi Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 ...Isn't Irn-Bru a soda sold in Canada and Ireland and what-not? Um... hmm.... that scares me a bit... and intruiges...
redsliver Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 ...Isn't Irn-Bru a soda sold in Canada and Ireland and what-not? Um... hmm.... that scares me a bit... and intruiges... That's Iron-Bru, Its pretty ass terrible, like what licorice would taste like as a pop.
Guest echtrae Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Eww. That just plain sounds nasty.
StoryJunkie Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 The only real advice I can given you, is that where lime is usually fairly soft, lemon harder... never click on a story labled "IRN-BRU". Inuyasha Runs Naked - (I don't know, this is just a wild guess. Is Knorg Inuyasha-phobic?) (but wtf could BRN stand for except something brown, and smelly...) Okay, that was admittedly the dumbest guess I've ever made. But seriously, isn't there a clickable drop down menu right on the site that explains all the codes? That's what I used when I was but a greenhorn. Top right hand corner: Info/Support It drops down and choose: Resources Three categories to choose from, pick: Site FAQ (Admin Only) There are presently 26 works to choose from. Go to "next" page (page 2) Scroll down until you see "Story Codes", et voila~!
EveKnight75 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I remember one of the first gags anyone ever played on me in Canada. Somebody decided to pour IRN-BRU (pronounced Iron Brew) in a glass, told me it was urine, proceeded to drink it, then offered me some. I have no idea why, but I drank it. It didn't taste like licorice exactly. It was extremely citrusy. It's nastily sweet with an extremely sour aftertaste. There's orange, then lime, then lemon, then IRN-BRU. Does that clear it up for you guys? P.S. Apparently the stuff is popular in Scotland. Don't know why, even if they do eat haggis.
Guest echtrae Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Maybe it helps kill the taste of the haggis.
Guest Knorg Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Hey, a properly prepared Haggis is nice.
Guest Knorg Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I'm sorry, Knorg, I just don't think that I could 'stomach' it Rimshot etc.
Guest Knorg Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 You mean like this? Yup. I'd hate to see an emoticon who didn't know what a rimshot was, but thought they could guess in context of lemons.
Guest Big Samurai Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 That still doesn't solve the mystery of what IRN-BRU actually means. Spill it, Knorg, or I might draw a mustache on your Callisto. I'm not a good artist, either. This copy of Paint is old.
WotanAnubis Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I'm not a good artist, either. This copy of Paint is old. There has been more than one version of Paint!? My mind, it is blown.
Guest Knorg Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 The Paint with Windows 3.11 was fun as, well, something that wasn't too fun. IRM-BRU is (still, probably) the top selling soft drink in Scotland, where it originated. There's a bunch of "iron brew" knock offs, some of them alcoholic. It is supposed to taste citrus, like, but there's a bit of discussion on different tasting notes. (and differing bottling quality internationally). So what is the significance of IRN-BRU. A joke. Just a joke. Lemon, Lime, IRN-BRU. It beats sprite, after all! Some might say "That's not funny," to which I can only reply in the manner of another oft-derided humourous figure, Garfield the cat: "In that case, why am I chortling?"
Guest Big Samurai Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 So you really were referring to the obscure drink and not to some bizarre, undiscovered fetish of appalling nature. Pfft. I should draw the mustache anyway.
Guest Knorg Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 So you really were referring to the obscure drink and not to some bizarre, undiscovered fetish of appalling nature. Pfft. I should draw the mustache anyway. Scotland is a country with waist high thistles. I'm not kidding, these fuckers are tall and I'm six foot. And there's a tradition of the men wearing kilts. Think about that now - waist high thistles... no groin protection. That obscure form of CBT can therefore be known as IRN-BRU. ...and IRN-BRU ain't obscure round here.
EveKnight75 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I thought my post had explained the concept. Guess not. IRN-BRU is the level above lemon when it comes to citrus. The ultimate level in porn, so to speak. That's why you should be prepared to get squicked if the IRN-BRU label's in the summary. When Knorg mentioned rimshot, I ended up getting an image of a guy playing the drums while another guy licked his asshole. I need to take a break from the adult-fics. don't I?
StoryJunkie Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Good God, do you suppose Charging Handles Forward Sess fanfic could have qualified? That fic was BeYond Lemon...
Guest Big Samurai Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 See, Eve Knight, if you'd just said that from the get-go, that would've solved a lot. Heh. There's never a simple answer to a lemon question.
