It depends on the situation and characters for me. If I'm writting about a cute, virginial nun-like girl I'm going to use either clinical or romanic terms. Likewise, if I'm writing for an earthy, rough, horny tomboy I use soft- and hard-core terms.

Well, I stick to the three basics: 'cock', 'dick', and the less offensive 'erection'. For some reason I have an aversion to the word penis - just like 'vagina,' it reminds me of a sex ed class, or the instructions on a condom wrapper.

But hey, whatever floats your boat... although personally, 'manroot' doesn't exactly get me aroused.

Thanks guys, I will stick to what I know best and maybe add a few other terms in the story.

After all it is Fateful Encounters on the site in the Harry Potter catagory that has the most words about the member.

I prefer the avoidance technique since my characters are non-human and the fandom is still debating how they reproduce. tongue.gif

My favorite humorous anatomical reference is "tallywhacker" but I've never seen that in a fic.

The best one I've ever heard was:

"WOMB FERRET"

Doesn't it just make you laugh laugh.gif

As a guy, I find the most blunt (cock, dick, penis) or the most general ones ("rubbed his hardness through the thin leather") are the best because anything poetic or too metaphoric just cries out "I'm a girl. Ewwwww you have a peepee"

*Cock and kisses from Muraki*

He loves you all so much he wants to cut off your heads and put it in his torso...Er, just watch the series ~Yami no Matsuei (Descendants of Darkness)

I'd say I'm somewhere between avoidance and romance. I mostly write romance, however, I don't get too explicit as far as body parts in my stories. I think using hard core language really takes away from the story unless you are intending to write porn.

Usually I would just take the previous poster's advice and exclude the word so that the reader can decide.

However, not that I've read the 'thesarus', I rather like this term:

burgeoning erection

Not that I think it would be appropriate for the story I'm writing. Sure way to run readers off. smile.gif

Nothing beats 'wanger' though.

procreative interface

Came across it reading today. It works for men and women.

Wish I'd signed up for the forum sooner...Wonderful resources...Good for a giggle or two and I think I'm starting to get too repetitive in my terminology.

I prefer to tailor the language I use to the type of sex scene I'm writing. I am actually more comfortable with writing graphic sex than romantic sex...Go figure. I am so not a girly girl.

If it's romantic lovemaking then I use avoidance and mild euphemisms. I might use words like hardness, wetness, folds, center, arousal, enter, driving, thrust, rocking etc. I do use the word "clit" because I really find most of the euphemisms I'm familiar with just too florid for me. "Pleasure nub" makes me want to gag. I also use this style if I don't want the sex to overwhelm the story.

If it's casual or fun sex, I use soft-core to hard core terms. Sometimes I get a little clinical. I like the words dick, cock, and erection for the male. I dislike the word "prick" as it makes me think of someone who is stuck up. I like the words, labia, lips, and entrance for the female. I use the words breast and nipples almost exclusively without euphemisms. I rarely use the word "pussy" in writing because it feels so juvenile, though I might use it in bed when I'm feeling frisky. I have an aversion to the word "cunt" as I see it as a derogatory term.

With fun sex and especially hardcore sex I like the monosyllabic words with harsh endings. It gives the prose a certain rhythm that I think adds to the excitement and is reminiscent of the rhythm of the act. Words like suck, fuck, cock, dick, etc.

I am only beginning to add anal sex to my fics. So far I think I have used sphincter, ring of muscle, tightness, and tight heat.

i think the only other word for nipple is Teat, or Arioli. (excuse the spelling, i don't know if i have it right or not) but they are both such cold and sterile words that it's a real turn off for anyone reading them.

we need to invent some new words for nipple. something erotic and yet simple. something that can really catch on. There is a lot of writing talent on AFF, surely we can think of somethng. if we combine our imginations we could be in the dictionary before 2010.

I offer the challenge of thinking up new words for Nipple.

Possible terms:

-pleasure buttons

-love knots

-love buttons

ok...that sucked...whatever XD

I usually am a romantic writer....if avoiding the words haha. I usually blush if I have to write anything sexual and I only have very few stories like that. Sooo yeah, the few I have written I've blushed through while writing it being romantic. Hahha.

I tried soft-core once and while I wasn't flamed for it, the one brave reviewer who told me (nicely) that I needed to get more comfortable with what I was writing... not to say that hard core is the way to go for everyone since there are times when I will mix - but for me, mostly, I seem to be better at the harder angle of my descriptions

I usually like to mix it up and let my readers use their imaginations as well.

I love using facial expressions, sounds and feelings more than words though.

But when the time calls for it, Im all in haha

Anyone have any alternate terms for the sphincter? Nothing nasty please.

I prefer to use technical terms on every sex scene I do so I don't look unintelligent and immature. Since I am in the medical field mainly in Veterinary medicine, I always use proper anatomical terms at all times to be professional.
