  1. Saw someone complain that women characters only ever get written to the Virgin, Mother or Whore archtypes. It’s a fair point about poor characterisation and representation in a lot of media. I am glad to see I avoided that by managing Virgin, Mother, Whore and Lupa.

      A weird complaint.

I mean if you really want to get into the fine details. All-female characters can be broken down into the triple goddess. Maiden, Mother and Crone if only because of the natural lifecycle of women is one of those three.

That’s one set of archetypes, known as the Hecate Sisters.  Another common set is the Three Faces of Eve, those being the Wife, the Seductress and the Child.  this is probably the closest to the Mother, Whore and Virgin JayDee was talking about.  There is also a male version of the Hecate Sisters, the Three Faces of Adam (the Hunter, the Lord and the Prophet).

The complaint wasn’t that characters could be broken down to the archtypes, it was that they were not expanded beyond them – poor characterisation and one note archtypes rather than complex mulitfacted human seeming folks. Or so I followed it anyhow. I figure if all my characters are one-note and poorly characterised no matter the gender (or non binary!) than at least I’ve got the balance…
