  2. LOL -- think how I feel for having been a part of QC! I really do see more than one side in this fight. As a reader, that review is MY property. I want control over it. As a writer, I don't think I own the rights to that review. I may not like it. It may be a troll. But, if it is truly offensive or a problem, I can report it. As a reader, I'd like to see all the reviews: the good, the bad and the ugly. As a former mod at a site that does QC, I cringe at the thought of dumping more work on any mod.
  3. <----- Witch chokes on her chili at the mere mention of QC. Will never "read" in a queue again. Nuh uh, nope, not gonna do it.

    Man and lions

Minors are minors, regardless. Just because the author wasn't "caught" until recently, doesn't make what they did any less illegal. All reports of suspicious minors are thoroughly researched and CONFIRMED before deletion. Do a little research with that nice little search button on the top right of your screen to see the proof. One cannot judge maturity by the quality of writing. Adults can write horribly and teens can write such moving stories that readers can be dumbstruck at their beauty. None of this changes the fact that what this author did was post illegally at this site.
  5. I have a decent share of indie stuff too, mostly locals.
  6. I like his song, The River. He is also and actor, and played Joe Dawson on the TV series, Highlander. I loved how he played on the show, and found the CD after.
  7. I like Irish folk music: The High Kings, Dubliners, the Young Dubliners and the Chieftains -- leaning towards the Spanish influenced albums. I also have John Lee Hooker, Jim Byrne, both blues, and bluegrass. I do have a lot of Spanish music as well. Now seriously, isn't that a weird combination?
  8. If I don't know the author, but the story seems promising, I read the reviews first. If it is a litany of "OMG - I love this fic!" I usually skip it. Why? Because of the original topic, glowing reviews for bad fiction. Now, if someone reviews thoughtfully, or I know the reviewer, I give their review more credence than the, "Please write more reviews." I know it's snobby. Yet, how many of us have read the reviews and thought this is going to be a great story, only to read a few (if we're lucky) paragraphs, then want to a) gouge our eyes out, B) gouge the author's eyes out, or c) kick the crap out of the reviewers? C'mon now, be honest! Some readers really aren't creative in their reviews. I have one who writes nearly the same thing every time. It doesn't really matter to me, because I know it's her "style." I think Megan is the same. In their own way, they are trying to be encouraging. Seriously though, all those glowing reviews for horrid stories ... well, there's no accounting for some people's tastes. Addendum: Oh, yeah, and I've given up on reviews and ask for readers just to clicky on the rate button. Some people just don't know what to say without sounding like squealing fan girls. I get lots of ratings now.
  9. Exactly! That would be why reviews are so much fun -- writers get to see what someone else sees in their story!
  10. Just goes to show you that everyone reads things differently. I thought it was great, and I actually smiled. Then, again, I like corny.
  11. I just lost my entire playlist in a "whoknowswhathappened" thing. I always put back Springsteen, and Rufus Wainright's Alleluia. Otherwise, my music choices are probably too weird for mainstream, side stream, well, any stream. Lick by Joi is one good "channel your inner pole dancer" song.

We had some flurries Friday and Saturday, but it didn't stick.

  13. When I did beta regularly, I "auditioned" for writers. We would do a sample. If they didn't like my style, speed, etc., we parted ways amicably. It also gave me an out if they were pressuring me to hurry, or other things, like completely disregarding grammar changes, etc. I rarely beta read any more. Sometimes, you just have to make the tough call and say, "Find someone else. I'm not going to be fast enough for you."

  19. Apollo: Thank you for hosting the prompts challenge, and making an effort to read each and every one. I haven't had this much fun writing Drabbles, etc. in AGES! Treats: Thank you! Yes, our dear pet does long for his Mistress' approval. Shouldn't they all? Harvest: Wow, I wrote imagery? Sensuality? Aw shucks, thank you muchly. I'm happy that someone could appreciate how many senses would be engaged in such a setting. I wanted to do more, but would have KILLED the word limit: the heat of the fire on the druidess' back, the damp, cold grass under her knee, the smoothness of the oils on her fingertips, the icy touch of those same fingertips on his penis ... oops, I digress. Fairy Slayer: Treats: I'm glad you liked this. When limiting something to 100 words, we rely so heavily on the readers' imaginations that I'm almost frightened to toss them out for viewing. Not scared when readers like you bring so much to the so little I offered. Thank you. Harvest: Again, I'm so glad that you liked this. I've been daydreaming a lot about what a ritual might require for another story where I'm stuck. Somehow, a healing got mixed up with harvest in my head, and now we have fingerpainting nudes with, only visible in the moonlight, ink. I'm glad you appreciated the subtlety of that aspect. Melrick Harvest: Dear, watching is acceptable only from inside the sacred circle. Please enter the sanctuary as you entered the world, i.e. naked. Proceed to be blessed, and participate! Asexual Biped Harvest: As a farming witch, I am shamed. See what happens when we rush! Thank you for taking the time to read and review and correct an old witch. Treats: I don't know about correctly, but I do know what *I* like! I'm thrilled you liked it too. JayDee: I am highly flattered by your review, more than you could possibly know. I've been practicing being more concise, and making better word choices. Thank you for noticing.
