The ones you're referencing with easier to see letters all are much more crackable than reCaptcha. That's the reason we have reCaptcha in the first place.

I really would rather not have to delete thousands of reviews when I come home from work because a spambot infested the review boards. We had some real issues with that for a very long time.

captcha/recaptcha is the "human checker" that we use, and is in use on most sites which have one.

@Baby Blue - as we STRONGLY discourage people from posting their emails in a public forum post, you need to email me at technicalsupport@adult-fanfiction.org with the email address you're saying the archive tells you already has an account. From what it sounds like, you do need to clear cache and cookies before doing anything at all. If you don't remember your password, then you reset it AFTER you clear cache and cookies. If you tried to reset with your original password, the password field will blank. But, until I can actually look you up by the email you're trying to use for registration/activation, I can't tell you more than some guesses based upon what I know has happened with other users in the past.

You have to click "My Control Panel". This is located right beneath your name, in the upper right corner of the browser.

wallotext issue - you can fix that in two different ways. If you have the original doc you copied from, you can copy it in your word processor, click "paste from word" if using word, open office, or libre office; and then paste that data in to the box that pops up. This will retain your formatting, linebreaks, and etc. How this happens, is that older versions of the software, and the language this was written in are not only end of life for the language (php 2 and 3 primarily), but the original software hasn't been supported for YEARS. Hence the need for custom software based on the original which is now abandonware to keep our current data, allow users to add to the dataset, and not lose any. The other way to fix it is what you just did, going in and manually adding the line breaks. As to where to post, yes, post in the appropriate forum for the story.

You can't access your control panel unless you're logged in. How you tell if you're logged in, is by looking at the upper right corner. You'll either see login boxes, or your pen name. If you see your pen name, you're logged in.

Nope, this is the right place. If you didn't delete the other six, I'd say they were the fallout of the deletion of one or more minor accounts. I really WISH I didn't have to do that to our authors, but I do have to remove all content posted by underagers.

As a reader, I much prefer the characters I'm reading to have DEPTH. If they have no emotions, and no reactions, they're wooden and not terribly believable

It's not an error on the author's part, it's an error in the data itself from the db crash in 2005. This is one of those things where I have to download the chapter data, and go through it character by character to take out the extra word html crap as well as the scrambled html tags from the crash.
