  1. Hello and enjoy your time here!

  4. I have one question (and please don't interpret my enquiry as a commitment to beta the story. ). Does the beta need to be familiar with the Forgotten Realms universe?
  5. You may have been okay with using the names of actual races, although it could depend on how you portray the races. Changing the names of the horses was a good idea, I think. Overall, I think changing all the names will make things easier and simpler on you. Although if you're going to upload the story in full on the internet then you might have trouble getting it published. Publishers generally require 'first publishing rights', and uploading stories onto the internet is considered publishing. One chapter will be okay though.
  6. I only write original stories, so all my characters are original. It's certainly less stressful than writing fanfiction, which seems to be chock-full of anal retentive people with WAY too much time on their hands. "Oh my god, <insert character here> is 5 foot 4 NOT 5 foot 3! You're scum! I hate you and want you to die a horrible lingering death for getting this one tiny thing incorrect! It's the end of the world now and it's all your fault!" No thanks. I'll just make up my own characters.
  7. This is basically a laundry list of various resources writers might find useful sometimes. Anatomy of the Human Body The 1918 edition of the classic Gray's "Anatomy of the Human Body". Cliche Finder Need to find cliche's involving the word cat, for example? Just type it in and it displays a list of cliches, including things like "not enough room to swing a cat" and "slicker than cat shit on a linoleum floor". RefDesk This site is brilliant and has links to just about any reference you can think of. Elizabethan England Life in Elizabethan England. The Victorian Web Great for finding out about Victorian England. Dictionary of Victorian London Another good resource. Medieval Kingdom Generator This could be very handy for writers of fantasy stories who want to realistically populate their kingdom. Dictonary and Thesaurus An online dictionary and thesaurus. Erotic Quills Extensive info on how to write erotica. Grammar and Writing A guide to grammar and writing. Stabilization of Trauma in the ER This could be handy to anyone wanting to make their character's trip to the emergency room more realistic. Wikipedia Wikipedia is always a good source of info, although it's usually a good idea to double check the info elsewhere, just to make sure its accurate. If anyone has others then feel free to add them.
  8. Yes, you're quite right, my apologies, I should have noticed that. Although I certainly hope that's not the future of stories...
  9. http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600096874 What is it with people posting online conversations and then trying to pass them off as stories? The conversation is even boring!
  10. Here's another mistake many people make, to-too: "He was to tired to get out of bed" instead of "He was too tired to get out of bed." And there's plenty of other screw-ups people make with to-too.
  11. I think what people need to keep in mind that are considering joining in the forum orgy is that it's not simply an excuse for some mass cybersex. If anything, it's a joint story, where everyone will contribute to creating it. As well as have lots of sex! For those who weren't around during the last forum orgy, they might not realise that rules are essential for its smooth running. Without that, someone can post weird, disruptive posts that utterly ignore all the posts that precede it and cause confusion. Which is why I dropped out of it before, because that happened and it just stopped being fun for me. The orgy will work if the people contributing treat it at least semi seriously, and are prepared to make a bit of an effort. Nobody will expect works of genius, but they will expect participants to have fun with it though! For myself, I'm the shy, nervous sort - it took me a while to build up the courage to join in the last one - so hopefully enough people will decide to join in to get it started, and I can see how it goes and decide then whether to join in. I'm not sure yet.
  12. Oh yes, "there - their" errors really bug me. Another similar one I've seen a number of times is "they're - there". As in, "There (or sometimes 'their') going down the street." Instead of "They're going down the street." It's not hard to work out the correct word if you just think about it.
