When you're in the archive, are you clicking in the correct category first? For example, your forum profile shows that you have 1 Harry Potter story in the archive. So once you're in the archive, you'd first click on "Harry Potter" (to the left of screen, 6th option down) and then click on Member Tools/Author Panel; you'd then find the "Edit Story" link. Each category has its own database. So Books, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cartoons, and so on, all have their own separate database. Which means you have to go into the category where your stories are before you'll see them.

Look down to the very bottom of this forum, to the left of the screen. Look for the words "Change Theme". Click on that and select a different skin. I personally use the "Delicate Blue" skin, which is quite nice.

If you want to allow anonymous reviews, this is what you need to do. Firstly, log into your account on AFF as you would normally. Hover your mouse over the “Member Tools” menu option along the top; select “Author Panel”. Once there, look for the “Edit Profile” option along the left of the page; click on that. Near the top, you should see “Prevent anonymous reviews” with a check box next to it. If there’s a tick in it, click on it to remove the tick. Having no tick there will mean you can receive anonymous reviews. When you’re done, scroll down and click the “alter profile” button, and you’re done.

Things to know about your story collaboration request
Melrick posted a topic in Story Collaborations
Are you writing a story that you’re majorly stuck on and think bringing in another writer might help? Or perhaps you’re in the planning stages of a major new story, but feel a second writer helping out is the way to go? Whatever your reasons, this is the forum to post your request. But there are things you should know before you post your request. Basically, the more information you provide, the better. For example, is it a Harry Potter story? Obviously you’d tell people that much. But you also need to tell people what kind of a Harry Potter story it will be. Will it include male/male sex? Rape? BDSM? If so then you need to make that crystal clear, so prospective co-writers won’t bother enquiring with you if they really don’t like BDSM, for example. Likewise, if there are certain kinks that really turn you off, like rape or BDSM, then you need to make that just as clear. Many people specialise in certain areas, and they'll need to know whether or not their own writing style or area of specialisation would suit you. You don’t have to (and shouldn’t) publicly include great details on the plot, but you should include as much relevant information as possible to help people make a decision as to whether or not they should contact you. A handy thing you could do is to provide a link to stories you’ve already written, if that’s the case, to give people an idea of your current level of writing skills. Also, if someone does contact you, an absolutely necessity, I would think, is to ask them for examples of their own work, so you can judge whether this person’s writing style and/or skill level suits you. Keep in mind that people will need to be a member of this forum before they can leave a reply or send you a PM, so if you wish for people to contact you via an alternative method, such as email, then you should leave that info. Disguising your email address to make it less likely for spam bots to harvest it isn’t a bad idea. And that goes for any forum! Alternatively, using a disposable email address (such as one from Yahoo or Hotmail) for forums and the like is a good idea, since you can simply abandon it if spam gets out of hand. I would not recommend using your ISP’s email address! And finally, if you do find someone to co-write with – or later change your mind – then don’t forget to come back and edit your post to say so. Good luck! -
The first thing you should know is that this forum is for promoting your own story that you’ve uploaded to the AFF archive only. That is, no stories that you’ve uploaded to other websites not connected to AdultFanFiction. With that established, the first thing you need to do is to click on the ‘Start New Topic’ button. In the ‘Topic Title’ area, the simplest thing to put is just the name of your story. The main body of your post could begin with a brief intro, telling people you’ve posted a new story, or a brand new chapter of your story. That isn’t required, but the following information is: Author: Title: Summary: Feedback: Fandom: Pairing: Warnings: Solo story or chaptered story: URL: Review Reply thread: An example of what it should look like is below: Author: Melrick Title: An Interesting Story Summary: A really interesting thing happens, and then something else even more interesting happens! (Here you can write as detailed a blurb as you want to. A catchy summary to entice the reader.) Feedback: Feedback and constructive criticism much appreciated. Fandom: Original Pairing: N/A Warnings: M/F, Oral, Anal Solo story or chaptered story: Solo story URL: http://original.adul...ion.net/FakeURL Review Reply thread: Link to review reply thread in the appropriate forum, if and when you make one. You could, if you like, finish your post by thanking people for reading, or that you hope they enjoy it. And you really should make sure that your spelling and grammar is good, otherwise it won’t exactly leave a good impression about your writing skills! And that’s all there is to it!

You’ve received a review for your story, and in the review the person has asked a question. You’d like to reply to that person. So do you just leave a ‘review’ to your own story to reply to that person? No, you don’t. Why? Because it’s against the Terms of Service, that’s why. The full reason is two-fold. Firstly, that’s not the purpose of the reviews. It’s meant to only contain genuine reviews, not discussions; it’s not a chat service or a mini-forum. Some people like to artificially inflate their reviews by leaving their own ‘reviews’ as replies to other reviews. Some people also like to carry on arguments with nasty reviewers. If you do get a nasty review that is clearly there just to be annoying then simply delete it. If the person keeps harassing you then report it to a mod here on the forum. Also, the archive website and forums are completely free to you, but they’re definitely not free for us! Therefore, saving bandwidth makes good economic sense. But you really want to communicate with your fans! How? This is how. On the main forum page, scroll down until you see the ‘Fan Fiction’ section. There are three subforums for you to look at. There’s ‘Anime/Manga (all)’, ‘NON Anime/Single Fandom Subdomains’ and ‘All Other Subdomains’. Find which subforum your story falls under and go there. For example, if your story is a Harry Potter story then you’d click on ‘NON Anime/Single Fandom Subdomain’ then on ‘Harry Potter’. Where was your story posted in the archive? If it was posted in the 'Het-Male/Female' section then click on that link, for example. Regardless, choose the appropriate category and click in it. Once there, click on the ‘Start New Topic’ button. For the Topic Title, you should write something which identifies this tread as a review replies thread for your story. For example, you could write: ‘Review Replies for <story name>’. With that done, you should give some details of your story, such as the full name, perhaps a brief summary of your story if you like (without giving away spoilers, of course!), a link to your story on the AFF archive, and perhaps any other info you feel is relevant for the opening post. Then subsequent posts would have the username of the person you’re responding to and your reply to them. You could include replies to several people in the one post. An important thing to remember is to mention this thread in your story posted in the archive, so readers know it’s there! If it’s a single chapter story, include an author’s note at the end of the story, telling people about your review replies thread, a link directly to that thread, and encouraging people to go there to see your comments! If your story is a multi-chapter story then you could include a short author’s note at the end of each chapter, if you like, to remind people of your review reply thread. But do not create a separate chapter for author’s notes or to reply to reviews! Both are against our ToS. Another thing you should never do is include an author’s note in the middle of your chapter. That makes your story look amateurish and you unprofessional. What if you’ve just uploaded your story and you’re not confident that you’ll get enough replies to make creating a review reply thread straight away relevant? What if you later do get a number of replies to which you’d like to reply to? Simple! Just create the thread in the forum as mentioned above and then go into your story in the archive and edit it to include the author’s note information! The most important thing of all is to have fun! Which includes no flaming in your review replies, but I’m sure you’d never do that.

So you wish to join our delightful little forum, do you? You’re more than welcome to do so! But, like everywhere else, there are rules to follow. The reason for this forum’s existence is to provide support for the author’s on the archive. They can advertise their story here; communicate with their reviewers; get advice. People that are reading the stories on the archive can communicate with the author on the forum, as well as asking for help to locate certain stories on the archive. There are other things you can do here, of course, such as play games in the Arcade and the forum and discuss non-story related stuff. But its raison d’etre is for author support. When you go through the process of trying to join up for the forum, you’ll be provided with information. And there’s the reason for most people getting denied permission to join. It’s not there just to fill out space; You MUST read it! That information tells you, not just the forum rules, but also what you need to do to actually join. You see, where people go wrong is that they don’t bother to read the information, which is a shame, because it tells you that you need to have an account in the story archive. Why? Remember what I just said about the reasons for this forum being here in the first place? “Oh but I’m not a writer! Are you telling me I won’t be allowed to join the forum then?” You certainly can still join! But here’s the kicker. You also need to actually read all that information during the forum signup, because in there it will tell you what you need to do to join the forum if you’re a reader/reviewer only. (I include ‘reviewer’ because you wouldn’t be the type of person to read people’s stories without ever leaving a review… would you?) Another reason why we have to make people jump through small hoops is because of spammers. We get spambots trying to join the forum on a daily basis. There are sections of the forum which allows people to post without joining, and these areas still get hit by spammers, which are quickly dealt with. If we didn’t personally check every single person trying to join up on the forum then it would be quickly overrun by spambots. Doing what we do at least ensures that a human is trying to join up. It’s no guarantee, but it’s better than the alternative. You can read more information on why you may have been refused permission to join the forum on this FAQ.

Actually, Windows 8 is definitely the next full operating system for personal computers. The one major difference is that it'll have support to enable it to be used on Tablet devices and the like, as well as PC touchscreen support. But it will have a whole bunch of other changes, like a new user interface and a new file system. The real question is if it'll be a real improvement over Windows 7 for the regular user; i.e.; non-touchscreen users. Even if it is, I won't be upgrading for at least 12 months after it comes out, to give them time to release patches for the inevitable bugs. Oh, and Firefox has released an update, already. That doesn't fill me with confidence.

Windows 8 is coming out next year, so there's another operating system to get used to, just when I'm starting to get the hang of Windows 7.
-
And there's an author's note in the middle of that story, as well, just in case that POV change crap didn't yank you out of the story hard enough. Those are things authors really need to learn to abandon very quickly.

Version 6 of the Firefox browser hasn't been out long, and they already upgrade it to version 7? Good god, even Microsoft aren't that bad! Here's an idea, Mozilla, how about you actually work on creating a half-way decent browser in the first place so you don't have to abandon it and upgrade within a ridiculously short time of release? I pity the poor developers. They've only just updated their stuff to make it compatible with version 6, and now they have to do it all over again. Firefox used to be such an excellent browser. Rock solid and steady all the way, where as IE was as solid as a bag of pus. But now IE is improving and Firefox is getting worse, much much worse. I wonder just how good version 7 of Firefox will be? I guess we'll know if they decide to release version 8 next month.

It's just bad, lazy writing.

The new Monthly Word Prompt Challenge is now open for business! Look for it in the Challenges/Requests forum, under Dribs and Drabs and Doggy Tales!
-
Just as a reminder to people, these forums aren't the place to leave reviews on people's stories. Reviews should always be left on the archive, with the story you're actually reviewing. And this topic is purely for author's to promote their story.
-
The new monthly word prompt challenge will be starting next month! I'll try and remember to think US dates so it starts and stops on the correct days according to the US.

One Word Prompt: Grandeur Phrase prompt: Get it over with Three Elements: An old diary, a locked door, a bottle of alcohol Please remember to follow the rules as outlined here: Rules Happy Writing!

Here are the basic rules for the AFF monthly challenge! On the first day of each month, I will post new writing prompts that needs to be used in some way, shape or form in your challenge response. There may be a single prompt or you may have multiple prompts you can choose from for that month. Your challenge response information must be posted in the forum by the last day of the month. There are four different word counts to choose from - TwitFic: 140 Characters (which includes punctuation marks and spaces); Drabble: 100 words (No more, no less); FlashFic: Up to 1,000 words; or ShortStory: Any length over 1000 words, as long as it’s specifically written for the prompt (i.e. no prewritten stories are allowed), and as long as it’s submitted in time to meet the deadline. The monthly prompt may simply be a single word, or you may have a choice of several prompts (e.g., One Word Prompt, Phrase Prompt, Three Elements Prompt). If there are multiple prompts on offer, you may choose any one of those prompts. You do NOT need to use all of them. However, if you wish to give yourself an extra challenge, then you can choose to implement more than one, or all of them, into your challenge response. You may also write a separate story for each of the prompts given. See below for more details. To submit your entry, please see a sample post below as to how your information should be displayed in the forum and what to include. The Monthly Prompt thread is only to post your story information - Any reviews to these challenge responses you wish to leave should be made in the usual way – at the bottom of the author's stories in the archive. Please do not leave commentary in the topic; those posts will be removed. Basic Rules for User Submitted Challenges: Please upload your challenges in the correct category within the AFF Archive: http://www.adult-fanfiction.org/ Do NOT post your challenge responses in the forum. If you’re unsure which category within the archive is the most appropriate place for your story, feel free to ask a moderator. Your challenges can be written for any fandom or original categories. If you choose the "One Word Prompt" or the "Phrase Prompt" challenge, your challenge response may or may not include the specific challenge word or words, but it is important that it does include the meaning of the word or words. If you choose the "Three Elements" prompt, your challenge response must include all three elements, i.e., if one of the elements is a diary then your response must include a diary in it. This is more a guideline than a rule. It’s usually a good idea to place an author’s note at the start of your story pointing out that this is a challenge response and the prompt or prompts that inspired your story. You could also place the forum URL that has the prompt. Example: Author’s Note: This is a FlashFic (less than 1000 words) written in response to a word prompt – “Embrangled” – and a phrase prompt – "give it time" – posted on the forum here: http://www2.adultfan...fakeurladdress/ Please note that you may write a separate story for each of the prompts, if you so choose, as long as there's only one of the prompts used per story. So, if there are three different types of prompts on offer then you could submit three separate stories, one for each prompt. Make sure you submit each story as a separate post, and make it clear what prompt you're using. See a sample forum post below for an example. Sample forum post: Pen Name: Melrick Story link: (Link.) (This is the URL to your challenge response located on the archive) Review replies link: (Link to elsewhere in the forum, if you have one set up. Information on creating a review reply thread is available here.) Prompts Used: One Word: "cat", Three Elements: "a hat, a chair, a storm". Type of fic: Drabble Fandom: Original Pairing: N/A Warnings: M/F, Anal, Oral Please note the “review replies link” in the sample post above. If you have a review replies thread set up for your story elsewhere in the forum, you can place the link there. If you don't have one at first but do later then you can simply edit your post later to include the link. It's not necessary to have one, though. Please note, however, that it’s against the rules to reply to reviews for your own story in the archive by adding your own review. Replies to reviews can be made by creating a thread in the “Fan Fiction” section of this forum. You can read more about this here. If you're unsure how to do this, please ask a moderator for assistance. Have fun writing!
