Actually, if the alleged native English speaker is American, it's sadly to be expected. We don't teach our children grammar, punctuation and spelling any longer. Apparently, they are expected to arrive at those skills via magical osmosis.

And honestly, Melrick, we non-native speakers have the advantage of learning English from a book, which is why we have such a better grasp of the grammar than native speakers. But I still agree with you.
