  1. I have a character that refuses to pick a personality. At times he's strong and independant, flirty and flighty, or wishy washy and weak and there are even times (like in the same paragraph) that he'll be all three. I have no idea how to develop him and he's giving me a headache every time I sit down to write his parts of the story. I'm seriously thinking he may suffer from DID. So any ideas on how to fix him or should I just let him be a little crazy and see if there's a reason he's how he is?
  2. There isn't a way to do that. But you can always ask the author if they have a mailing list and if they do have them add you too it.
  3. Should Tahn, BW and I be offended by your stereotyping of those of us that write slash? For your information I wouldn't just be sitting there watching the naked men dance, I'd take a page out of DA's book and join in the cavorting! Oh well maybe that comes later... Anyway, good chapter and I liked the way you added a bit at the beginning, it didn't feel as rushed as before. It was fun to see some familiar faces pop up in your story. I'm finding that there are still no characters in this story that inspire the kind of hate that Alexsi did... Get too work, you have a villain to create! CL
  4. Nano Pen Name: CL Mustafic (original I know) Ready and willing to buddy anyone that's interested. Novel Title: Calling the Ball Word Count: 47,921, 12th day I had a good day today, pounded out over 6k words, only 2100 to go! This is a great idea BronxWench!
  5. Aww, thanks JayDee, so glad you like it. I thought about going with "READ THIS STORY OR I'LL SWALLOW YOUR SOUL" but thought I'd go with something more subtle. Plus I still may need to use that one on my other still untitled story...
  6. Haha, lucky you!
  7. Mine is finally up under the right name, now gotta go read and review everyone else's story!
  8. Review Replies for Chapter 20 of The Heart Wants Thanks once again to all who read, rate and review! You know I love you guys! Okay so I know you all are waiting for more updates but I have more bad news... I've decided to do Nano this year so I'm going to be focused on that for the month of November. I will be putting my Nano project on Smashwords if anyone's interested in checking it out. I'll provide a link when the time comes. I also wanted to mention that I have a short story included in AFF's Tales from the Shoutbox so if you're interested in checking it out, here's the link http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600107953&chapter=7 that will take you directly to my story but make sure to check out all the other stories from the amazing authors here on AFF. If you leave me a review I will reply to it in this thread also. Okay so on to review replies: Tahn: Yeah I'm sorry, them's the breaks when you become an unofficial beta. Thanks for the encouragement to post it once again. Lisa: LOL I'm sorry, I didn't mean to go walk about for so long! I'm glad you enjoyed the chapter and you're right Shane needs a time out. Justin's parents surprised me too, I was worried I'd have two boys moping around about their families reactions (three if you count poor Zeb). I'm working on a pill for the withdrawal... Well that's it for now, thanks again to Tahn and Lisa for the reviews, you know they keep us writers going! Chapter 21 is up now!
  9. Well tomorrow is our 17 year anniversary, can't believe we've been married that long! They're taking me to the cabin for a surprise. I'm not sure if I should be excited or scared...

If, when you get to the cabin, there's a book bound in human skin and deadites, the answer is scared.

Unfortunately our weekend was cut short due to a work emergency but my surprise was nice. They'd planted 30 lilac bushes around the property, I'm very pleased... Oh and thanks everyone.

  10. You should be good to go then! Thanks for taking the time to do it right, makes less work for both of us then.
  11. Okay here's one that has them at the beginning of the chapter. http://original.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600107682 At the top it says Story Tags: and then the tags pertaining to that chapter are listed.
  12. Okay so far it doesn't look like you have anything that needs tagging. What I would suggest since you did get the incest and minor tags in your description, is that you add additional tags at the top of the chapter they occur in. You don't add these tags in where you have your disclaimer, which yours is good BTW so good on ya for that, but instead you add an author's note to the actual chapter with the extra tags. I can point you to an example if you need to see what I'm talking about. Hope this helps you.
  13. Can you give me a link to your story so I can take a look at what you have if you've already posted it? I'd be better able to help you that way.
  14. You would put het in there you'll also want to tag things like oral, if there's any oral sex given, male or female. Fingering is one that is missed a lot. If you think it's going to happen in the story then you're better off tagging it than getting a warning for not. If you can't get all the tags into the description, it's hard I know believe me, you can put your tags at the top of the first chapter. I'd personally make sure the incest and minor tags get in the description though since they are touchy ones with most people.
  15. Review Replies for The Heart Wants Chapter 19 Thanks as always to everyone who reads, rates and reviews, I appreciate the support! Okay so I’m going to apologize for not updating recently but I’ve just had too many irons in the fire lately. I’ve tried to cleanse my brain of all the things running about in it and have actually gotten a couple of chapters done. I also am taking part in the Halloween Oneshot collection, you can find the thread for it here: http://www2.adult-fanfiction.org/forum/index.php/topic/60996-affs-tales-from-the-shoutbox-2015/#entry381848 make sure you check it out and if you’re a writer come join in the fun! Okay so on to the review replies so I can actually post the next darn chapter… Tahn: Of course I blame you! Thanks for your help reading through the chapters and encouraging me to post them even though they don’t seem up to snuff. Lisa: I love the new Zeb too! Who knew there was an actual sweet person under all that attitude? Don’t you hate it when people do crap that you can’t fathom ever doing? You have to wonder what his mother is going through though… just a little… right? Thanks for sticking with me. Lunar: Sorry, it wasn’t quick! I’ll try to be better. MoTown: I know it’s been awhile since I’ve updated anything. I’ve been running circles in my head and there’s just so much that wants to come out that I’ve been working steadily just not on anything that I’ve been posting or am ready to post. Thank you for letting me know that you noticed I was gone. It means a lot to me that you are looking forward to having new chapters. I should have a couple out in short order here. So that’s all for now, thanks again to all who reviewed! Chapter 20 is up now! CL
  16. So that means she can use the first chapter as a sort of index right and it won't be counted as a non chapter?
  17. CL Mustafic Title: The Glory Hole to Hell (I know, I know but there's actually no sex in the story so even though it sounds like it it's not a porno) Summary: Will and Pete loved each other in a time when doing so could get you killed. Flash forward seventy-five years and you can still find people that wouldn't think twice about doing just that to a couple of 'faggots'. What happens every Halloween night at the abandoned and reputedly haunted house at the end of Loon Lane might not change any bigoted opinions but it will make you think twice about what's behind the next glory hole... Did I mention I also suck at summaries and I blame the above story on Tahn. I suck at writing supernatural stuff and especially horror so... oh well maybe it will be so bad it will be scary?
  18. I actually heard back from them and got a 'revise and resubmit' letter of rejection but after talking to Bronxwench, she's convinced me that's actually a good thing. I'll keep you updated. *sneaks off to revise so she can resubmit*
  19. Okay, I know I've been a lousy updater lately but you'll all have to excuse me a bit for that but that's not why I'm writing this post. I just wanted to let you all know that my quest to get FFH published is still ongoing and taking up quite a bit of my time but I've finally gotten just a bit of good news (nothing concrete but I'm taking it as a good sign). I got an email from an editor that said this: This is just a line to let you know that we're still actively considering your book, but will have to ask you to allow us a few more days before giving you our decision. Our first reader has finished reading it and loves it, but the next stage would be for me to read it myself - and unfortunately I'm up to my eyes in editing something for another author and won't even be able to look at it until after the weekend. I'll do everything in my power to get an answer to you before 3 October, though, and hope you will forgive me for the delay. So for those of you following along with my quest (basically it's for you Tahn ), there's that. So I'm sorry that I haven't been updating much but I guess them's the breaks. I'll just be sitting here in my little corner rocking rhythmically to the insane voices trapped in my head until I hear something more since I can't bring myself to focus long enough to do anything else. CL
  20. Two Valium, four glasses of wine and two Tylenol PMs make for a speedy flight. Ten hours just flew by (literally).

  21. Don't get me wrong, I didn't say I don't care what they think. I like to hear that a story is at least provoking some sort of emotion even if it is hatred for a character or a storyline but I don't let it sway the course of my story. I'm simply saying that I've found that people tend to like a certain type of story and if you dare to go down a different line than they are used to, you can get quite a bit of resistance (or less hits - since that's what this all started off as anyway). If I wanted to I could write a story that follows a formula and would please many of the readers in my genre. That's just not what I've set out to do so therefore I don't. So that's how I see myself as writing to please myself first and if others like it, that's just a boon. It's nice to hear that your work is appreciated but would I stop if nobody told me they liked what I'd written? No. CL
  22. I don't think of it as a popularity CONTEST, but I am definitely affected by whether a story is a hit or a flop. I had my first straight-up flop recently (in that reviewers were explicit about not liking it, and the reasons why), which has definitely made me question some of my assumptions about what readers want to see. Because if I didn't care about what readers thought, I wouldn't post my stories online in the first place (or else I'd post them on a site that has no mechanism to allow readers to respond). I guess I don't see it that way. I've had readers that have been quite vocal about what they didn't like about some of my stories but it didn't change the course of the story I wrote. Hell I got a couple of threats on another site when I started posting a sequel to a story some people sort of liked when it went in a direction they didn't like. Though I do admit that some reader feedback on another story did help to make it better in that I continued for a couple extra chapters to make the ending more complete but it didn't change the story I wanted to write. If I let the readers dictate what I wrote, all my stories would have one big guy, the dominant alpha male (most likely a werewolf because that's what readers want in the genre I write) and one smaller effeminate guy that the big guy wants but doesn't want him but he gets anyway because of the 'mate bond'. *shudders at the thought of attempting to write that story* I couldn't write a supernatural fic to save my life. I just think when writers write to appease the readers, they can lose sight of what got them excited about writing the story in the first place. If I looked at hit counts, rates and reviews, I'd have quit posting after my first two stories (I'll smack anyone that tells me I should have taken the hint. ) and then FFH would never have seen the light of day on this site. Anyway, my advice is to just keep writing what you're compelled to write, post it and even if it's not what you think is a major success (What constitutes success on this site, 1k hits, 10k hits? I've no idea.) if you're happy with what you wrote then you did what you set out to do. CL
  23. Hmm, anyone know if the TSA is going to find it suspicious that three adults are traveling abroad for a week with only one suitcase between them and said suitcase is full of empty duffle bags?

LOL Yeah, that's what I'm hoping they'll say. I do have to admit it was the easiest packing for a trip I've ever done! :D

  24. So cool! I'm so happy for you. I always wanted to see my name on a book but since that hasn't happened, I'm happy to at least say I know someone that has. Great job, it looks beautiful! CL
  25. I have to admit when I first started posting, I was obsessed with the hits, rates and of course back then, lack of reviews. The longer I'm here posting the less I care. I still love getting reviews, of course who doesn't, but I'm less ecstatic about it now than in the beginning. I look at it this way: I wrote the piece already so I've gotten my enjoyment from the project so if posting it can entertain just one other person, I've gone above and beyond what I set out to do. If that one person takes the time to tell me they liked it, well that's just icing on the cake. I'd rather spend my time writing than obsessing over my stats because in the end they really don't mean anything. This isn't a popularity contest, I think the original poster mentioned something about this site being fair about the updates page not being ruled by popularity, it doesn't hurt me if someone has written something that people love and it gets a million hits. I can encourage the other writers here because their success in no way affects my work. It actually makes me happy to see the few people on here that I've come to call friends, succeed in their writing endeavors. And that's my $0.25 worth. (My opinion is way more expensive than DP's because I'm a diva ) CL
