Hmm…. what should I do when there’s a tropical storm with my name on it?
-
Go for the trifecta: Watch the Weather Channel while drinking a bottle of Coke with your name on it.

Harness its power somehow? Take over the world? Seems like a good time for a little sorcery.

And today, my main potter fanfic turns 18 years old since the first chapter post, it’s an adult. I swear I’ll finish it!

Extended weekend is over, time to go back to work
-
And here I am waiting for work to freaking call.
-
I do enjoy my job, generally, but it’s still work. So it’s nice to take an extended weekend from time to time, kick back, and do some writing. Ep 14 would’ve stalled me for a month or two if I hadn’t done an extended weekend, instead, 2-3 days to get the action/plans just right for it.

Today I learned that apparently it’s legal to marry one’s first cousin in the UK (per a google search).
-
Hence the aristocracy’s similarity of appearance!
I kinda like how complex it is across the USA
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cousin_marriage_law_in_the_United_States
Like, Utah “ Only if both parties are 65 or older, or both are 55 or older with a district court finding of infertility of either party “

Well, if I wanted crispy squirrel bits, now's the chance, the squirrel must've loved the transformer.
-
Remember, you’re here because your parents got frisky. Sweet dreams!
-
What bothers me more is that my parents are here because both sets of my grandparents got frisky… and they had more kids than just my parents… so that’s a lot of frisky grandparents…
-
Guess it depends on the age they did it at, but yeah, not letting my imagination go there, plenty to imagine before that.

At what point must I stop calling my story “short”, a million words?
-
A minimum of a billion words is short =p
-
What’s scary is that there are a couple of 2M+ harry potter fanfics on the other archive, and mine might join them – simple projection of pre-revision word count and the effect of my rewrite on it. (ie, started with 500k, and my rewrite has transformed 100k into around 900k, so that’s potentially many millions of words, with LOTS of smut baked in).

Tamper-Resistant outlet: 0, Me: 1. Victory! (well, it helped to remove the stupid thing and put in a proper one.)
-
I don’t know what any of that means, but grats! Show that thing who’s boss!
-
This morning, I was almost done with replacing my kitchen microwave (over-the-range, so some minor work required), when the plug wouldn’t go into the outlet, despite having test fitted it earlier. The “tamper-resistant” part is a “safety-feature” to keep kids from putting things into it, supposed to be spring loaded to let in a plug but not a butter knife. Fortunately, I had a spare outlet laying around w/o this nuisance “feature” and replaced it. Seems to me that “child-proof” features seem designed to let the kids in and keep the adults out.

There are those moments that make me wonder… Why is google maps putting the dining symbol on a pet shop? Go for the amazing sensation of goldfish squirming on the way down?

“It'll be fun, I promise!" … I don't know if my MC trusts me or not.

I’m annoyed because it feels like the only thing visiting my “clean” version of my fanfic on FF.net are bots stealing it – I post, and a half dozen bots lift it inside a day or two; at least one a day after that. Feeling like I should simply abandon the clean version, and only pursue the explicit version on AO3. That’d make writing easier, but also jerks around anybody still reading the clean.
-
Honestly, if I thought it would do any good, I’d say to file daily complaints with FFN. Is it being reposted elsewhere? Perhaps you can file complaints with those sites as well.
-
A google search later, some of the ghost mirrors (mostly), thinking they’re redirects for … countries with more restrictive internet policies. Plus a (small) blurb on one hacked website.
But the aggravating part is simply that it drowns out the real readership numbers, because all I now see in the stats is bot after bot after bot slurping up 700k, no humans (about 300k of new material + 400k of the old yet-to-be-revised). Until now, I had been trying to maintain “explicit” vs “clean” versions, carefully marking up my story as I rewrite it (only way, TBH), close to a 3:1 word ratio; but if few to nobody is enjoying the clean, if they’re all enjoying the explicit, then it makes sense to not bother with the clean version given the extra hassle it takes.

Note to self, I can’t keep adding inches to this character’s todger every time he visits the hospital wing!
-
Not with that attitude you can’t =p

I do like to stay semi-realistic with sizes, so no forty feet (unless there’s a potion/spell involved). A few inches is average, and this particular character’s still growing, so he’ll be above average when done.

For those following Jefferey, I’ve yanked episode five, Contempt, and will repost once I revise it.
-
Ouch! Continuity errors happen, and only the author knows. It’s happened to almost everyone who writes a story with more than one book. It looked good for the reader. I’m sure the “corrected” version will be even better.
-
Thanks. Yeah, when I realized I was essentially revisiting the same point, that’s when I knew I had made a screwup. So one solution is to rehash the several episodes into a multi-part mini-series sort of thing, because some of it would be excellent in fostering some of Jeff’s grumpiness …

Well, I achieved success… my halloween story now has a name!!!!
-
That moment you’re rewriting a death scene and realize you should remove all sugar bowls from the house, just in case the perp drops by for a visit…..
-
Sometimes when I write a death scene I start with a preface of dear future fbi agent I can tell the difference between IRL and fiction =p
-
Not sure if that’d matter, if a FBI agent would read it how you’d want it read. In this case, no google search is needed as it’s a rewrite, I already know the method & effects.

My muse isn’t cooperating with Jefferey so not updating that. Instead, it decided it wanted some Harry Potter, so I’m actually working on the story I put into hiatus years ago. The smut version is….well, smutty.
-
I’m definitely splitting up most of the existing chapters. One of them is 107kwords, about the same as the Prisoner of Azkaban, and that’s a single “chapter”! I’ve got two other especially long ones coming in at 93k (longer than Chamber of Secrets) and 70k (just under Sorcerer’s Stone); rest are under 50k.
-
Horror headline that’ll get you below the belt … “Flesh Eating STD”
-
Sigh, that feeling when its a new chapter post and it feels like nobody’s reading it….
-
Wow, just pulled off an old copy of my potter fanfic from a backup CD burned in early 2004. (It’s actually one I was looking for, because I was a wee bit overzealous in subsequent edits.)
-
I’m guessing that I’ll be posting episode six next weekend, but no promises. (This is to Jefferey.)
-
Can we call tomorrow the 25th so we can start posting Halloween stories? We can go back to the 20th later.
-
Welcome to national LEFTOVERS day.

Hate it when I find a good article, useful for my writing, locked behind a paywall. It’s like… I’m not making money on my writing here.
