  1. Switching between VR and reality is a bit of a challenge, so I’m treating it like the holodeck on Star Trek, where it’s just presented as footage, not anything denoting the difference until the archway is called for, or the computer is instructed to do something. Can’t really comment further w/o spoiling things. Thanks for the review! - DP
  2. Luckily, no harm, my main computer’s operational! Almost wasn’t expecting that after it browned/stopped/rebooted/browned out with the soda.
  3. Grrr, so last night, I accidentally spilled my soda cup as I was playing Skyrim, and it doused my computer with the motherboard and video card taking the brunt of it I’m still pulling it apart to assess the scope of the damage (and order any replacement parts, as needed). The good news is that before playing, I had copied the story directory onto my shared data drive (shared between Windows & Linux), and that drive is accessible to my backup travel laptop; therefore, the stories are safe with no data loss
  4. I hate it when I get soda into my computer, this sucks.

Still assessing it, got most non-essentials stripped out, trying to bring it back bit by bit.  If successful, great, if not, I’ll consider my options.

Phew!  Dodged a bullet.  After a disassembly/reassembly, it seems operational.

  5. Just a quick note, I had the topic name changed to make this more of a general gathering/discussion spot for anything StarRebels (or me) related. And in doing so, I think I just figured out the name of Jaimie’s online chat group (in the stories) - DP

  7. I’ve been probably going the other direction, describing my characters older than they are in the story (Likely because my “reference material” is 18+). Minor1 will typically go in just because of the constraints I’ve established for my main story, so any backstory, well, the characters *are* younger, and I don’t subscribe to the notion that sexuality is a gift bestowed on an 18th birthday (as how some other sites/publishers seem to treat it). I also find the teen years ripe with plot altering mechanisms – the rumor mill in schools is excellent canon fodder!
  8. Looking at it from the readers perspective, a sudden change of tags is kinda like bait and switch, IMO, because if it happens after they’ve already invested hours, and potentially hundreds of Kwords, reading the story, only to suddenly have it change. Outside of a oneshot collection, where each story isn’t really related and hence skippable, it could be rather maddening. A reminder on a particular chapter, sure, but I’d rather not make it the first introduction of a tag. That said, as I’ve got WIPs, I’ve had new ones suddenly decide to invade the story, at which point, a chapter-level warning is a good way to let the regular readers know about it (while also updating the story summary).
  9. The one trouble with tags is they kinda become spoilers, in a way, MCD is the biggie, IMO. I’m sure the balance was considered long ago, so I put them in while crossing my fingers that the reader forgets about ‘em before the ending
  10. An author is always free to use “Other” and add a more specific warning.
  11. Main Character Death, and Controversial.
