I'll take it on...  And hopefully should be able to get to reading everyone's entries in Halloween...  I have made headroom in NaNoWriMo!  A beachhead has formed, so I can read some.

Hello, all. I've been traveling, so I haven't had a chance to post any updates until today. A few things:
First, I've finally finished the rough draft of chapter 3 of "Flesh." I'm hoping to get it polished up and posted before the week is out.
Second, I think I'm done with the "finish two, start one" thing. The number of partly posted chaptered stories I have has shrunk from eight to five, and that's where I'll leave it, at least for the near future.
Third, I have a very short Loud House one-shot that should be ready for beta soon. Nothing hardcore, just an amusing little vignette.
Fourth: SWP1, I have indeed made some progress with the next chapter of “Wishful.” Hoping to have it ready some time next week. Also, did you happen to check out “Day of the Deadly”?

Then I have some good news: I’ve started working on a sequel that will include more action with Rita and a couple of other mature women, as well as some different lolis and a teen or two.

Day of the Deadly by George Glass
You could have even waited until November 1st.
I've been doing lessons on Duolingo. I tried not to overdo it with the Spanish, though; a little adds flavor, but too much seems pretentious.
That's really what I was going for.
I did a little research. Now that Dia de Muertos is a national holiday in Mexico, everybody there celebrates it to some extent, but it seems to be the southerners who originated it.
Thanks! I've seen ofrendas that included cans or bottles of the departed's favorite beverage, and when I first began to conceive of this story, Graciela chugging one was the first image that came into my head.
I figured Fish couldn't just be a total mustache-twirler; he had to have a little humanity to him.
Enrique is used to doing things that way. Actual Mexican Marines who do anti-drug ops wear masks so the cartel types won't know who they are and have their families killed.
Thank you! Cunnilingus isn't my strongest subject, so it's gratifying to hear that.
I do believe we did. *takes the others’ hands and bows*

As I recall Mizore is how you learned about yuki-onna.  And yeah, a bit of research shows that Keito is a sadistic minor villain from the show, and is indeed a jorōgumo.  She even kind of looks like how I described Yua’s in-between form (a woman with black and yellow spider legs sprouting from her torso).  Hers sprout from her abdominal muscles, which is a look I considered, but I felt like it would be potentially gross for the readers to imagine.  Granted, that was no doubt the intended effect with Keito.
I did actually find a sympathetic jorōgumo story after I left that last post.  It seems episode 7 of Dororo features a jorōgumo who, after narrowly escaping combat with the protagonist, is rescued by an unsuspecting human whom she eventually falls in love with.  Also, while Rachnera from Daily Life with Monster Girl isn’t a jorōgumo, she is technically a non-bad spider woman.  I wasn’t counting her before since DLwMG is primarily a comedy.
And yes, anime can absolutely be culturally enriching, especially the series that introduce mythology or aspects of Japanese culture!
    Thanks!

I learned a bit about yōkai from watching Rosario + Vampire. There was even a spider woman in one episode. I guess anime can be culturally enriching.
IMO, looking at the obvious thing to do and then doing the opposite is often the key to great storytelling.

LOL! That may be the funniest first line of a review I’ve ever read.
Turns out the underworld is a real sausage party.
That was a spur-of-the-moment dialogue choice. I know that an expert can reload a bolt-action rifle in less than 3 seconds, but I wasn’t sure whether Enrique, who has presumably been practicing with semiautomatics, would actually be able to do it that fast. So I decided not to try to put a time frame on it.
The whole “man in a woman’s body” thing was something I’d never written before, so a lot of amusing thoughts like that came up. It was still pretty awkward to write sometimes, because I was like, “Marta grabbed him...grabbed her...grabbed them?”
I didn’t either. Ultimately, I just chose sex over gender.
This being a Halloween/Day of the Dead story, I felt like I had to include at least one horror element.
    Thanks for reviewing it!

    @GeorgeGlass reviews After Party!
Cody enjoys the game sometimes.  Like the story says, he’s glad they don’t do that every time they have sex, since he enjoys their more normal time in bed.  He is naturally more gentle and submissive, though.
The “Hollywood royalty” thing was me trying to find a good way to describe just how well she wears her (apparent) age.  I’m glad it worked!
The alien sense of morality is something from the myths I really wanted to incorporate.  I never defined this term in-story, but yōkai is a word that describes a wide variety of magical creatures from Japanese mythology.  The word is often translated into English as “demons”, but that’s horribly inaccurate.  Yōkai come in many forms, but the closest western equivalent to them is probably the Fair Folk from European and Celtic myth, primarily because, like fairies, yōkai have a very strong sense of morality, but it’s different from the kind humans have.
I was painfully aware of that stereotype, and definitely wanted to avoid it.  It seems like in any story featuring a spider woman of some kind (jorōgumo or otherwise), she always has to be preparing to kill and/or eat the male character or something like that.
Yes, sexual cannibalism (the technical term for when the female of a species eats the male during or after mating) is well-documented in spiders, to the point that several Latrodectus species have actually gotten their name from it (widow spiders), but even among those species it doesn’t occur 100% of the time.  The frequency of sexual cannibalism depends on a number of factors, including how aggressive the female is, how well fed she is in general, specific nutrients in her diet and, I swear I’m not making this up, foreplay.
So yeah, I got a little fed up with how ubiquitous this idea was, and wanted a story where the spider woman is genuinely threatening and creepy, but it turns out that while she’s a threat to other people, she isn’t one to the male lead, and that was the genesis of this couple.
Yua is a jorōgumo just like you’d read about in the old tales, a seductive, flesh-eating monster...and yet in spite of everything you’d expect, she adores this boy she’s chosen as her mate.  It makes her a somewhat more interesting character to me.

    Thank you!
I think a lot of it is (a) practice and (b) experimenting with new ideas. When I thought about writing “Wild Side,” I tried to think of what would make it more than just another father-daughter story, and then I thought about their having two levels of communication – the things they say, and the meaning beneath them. It was an experiment, but I think it worked.
Thanks for the review. And keep on writing!

*nods* My work here is done.
There is only one correct response to that.
I like the thought process, and the end result almost has an Indiana Jones vibe, which is awesome.
Oh, that wasn’t quite what I meant; I agree that F/F was the way to go there.  It’s just that there’s a pair of siblings here bonded as intimately as possible during a sex scene.  I personally wouldn’t know whether to add the incest tag or not.  I think you made the right call, since the siblings aren’t having sex with each other, but I do go back and forth a little bit.
No problem!   I decided early on that I was going to review all the entries in this anthology (except mine, of course, as that would get harshly self-critical pretty fast), and as I worked my way through I was genuinely curious as to what your contribution would be.  This was a nice surprise!

You are most welcome, and thank you.
Lana is one of my favorite Loud sisters, so naturally I wanted to begin and end with her. And the rain just seemed necessary for a happy ending.
Most of my stories draw at least a little bit from my own experiences. I suppose that’s true for a lot of writers – maybe even all of them.
Indeed it is. Not sure when it will be ready to start posting; I have a lot of other stories in the works, too, including a couple of other Loud House fics.
Hope you’re enjoying them. And thanks for the comments!

Glad to see Lana returning to complete the full circle… and its finally raining!
The last scene was wonderfully sweet, showing the loving intimacy between the Louds.
Very interesting to see parts of the story were based off your own life!

I’ve just posted my story for the AFF Halloween Party, titled “Day of the Deadly.” When the narcos killed Graciela’s brother Enrique, all hope of getting their village out from under the cartel’s thumb died with him. But on the night when the veil between this world and the next grows thin, there may be one more chance.

    Author notes (Warning: SPOILERS)
Lynn Senior’s murmured comment to the central air conditioner—“You hear me, baby? Hold together”—is what Han Solo says to the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back.
The zebra in Lola’s nightmare is a nod to Phineas and Ferb, in which Candace sometimes sees a talking zebra in her dreams.
Lynn’s nightmare about an evil baseball team wearing clown makeup was inspired by the 1970s street gang film The Warriors, in which one of the gangs wears baseball uniforms and face paint and carries bats.
The bit about a badly ventilated pipe making a banging noise when the water is running is a real thing, which I experienced at my parents’ old house.
(Warning: TMI) Lincoln’s sleep-sex is inspired by a few events from my own life. I once woke up to find myself making out with my wife, who’d had no idea that I was asleep when I initiated it. According to her, I’ve done a few other things like that, which I was not aware of at the time.
Four square and pickleball are both real games.
According to the internet, perennial ryegrass is a recommended lawn grass for the northern U.S. It is said to be hardy and able to endure a lot of foot traffic, which makes it ideal for the Loud family’s yard.
During a typical night of sleep, we go through multiple REM cycles, and each one includes a larger proportion of REM sleep than the previous one. As a result, you spend more time dreaming later in the night than you do soon after you fall asleep. This is why only some of the girls were affected by the sound of the hose pipe each night, whereas many of them were affected by the sex sounds made by Lincoln and his bed companions, which always happened later in the night (at least until the hose pipe mystery was solved).
