I have a clue what many of you will say on this. But I want to know, anyway! As always, I was on another site and the thread appeared. The writer wanted to know why was it so hard for them to write those types of specifics and what should they do. I told them honestly that they would get a wide variety of responses because everyone is different. People, like me, see no problem when I read a story where "Johnny was 6'3" or even "Sarah was nearly six feet tall". Because I know how tall I am, I can see this measurement and I get a clearer picture as to how this character looks. I suggested that they used themselves as the base and work around that to describe the measurements of their character. Then, another poster told them to do the exact opposite. That knowing specific measurements aren't good for stories; it would slow the story down and wasn't realistic. However, in my opinion, what good is it to know that Johnny was tall when "tall" can mean so many different things to so many readers? In my case, "tall" is anyone 5'9 and up. But someone already 5'9 would go with a higher number. I understand maybe not using actual measurements; not everyone is like me to where I can usually guess within an inch of someone's height just by looking at them. But I feel that readers need a little bit more to work on than "Sally was a short woman"! How do you describe the measurements of your characters, if you do?

Well, I guess I would have to first point out that I am on a lot of sites but this one, along with FFN are the only ones whose focus is majority fan fiction. While fan fiction as a whole is greatly appreciated on this site, it is looked down upon on other sites. It's basically because the other sites are 13 and up and so it's flooded with band and celebrity fics, a lot of them not well written at all (this coming from a writer who needs a beta badly but I digress...). I'm rambling -___- But the whole point is that my regrets have nothing to do with my experience on this site fully. I regret that DC and Marvel aren't fully represented and considered obscure. At least DC is. So, really good superhero stories are looked over. I regret that writers who are in my main fandom only focus on the Trinity (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman), Young Justice or Green Arrow for the most part. I also regret that there isn't much activity in the Final Fantasy fandom. Then again, I am a nostalgic person so it may be that no one is interested in the Final Fantasy series anymore other than myself!

XD XD I just checked your profile! I was JUST about to post about a writer who had some great Tsunade/Jiraiya stories and it's you! XD Long time it's been!
-
I believe I will have to check out your stories! Because, like you, I'm not a true to life fan of the anime. I only watch it here and there and half listen when my brother and hubby talk about it like a soap opera! Also like you, I hated Naruto. And Hinata. JFC; whoever did her English dubbed voice needed to be shot: it was like listening to someone scrape a chalkboard with their nails for nine hours straight! UGH!! Anyway: it makes me kinda glad I'm into a lesser talked about fandom although I do see it in the DC world as well: if it isn't about Young Justice or Arrow or SuperBat, no one's interested! Like, would it kill people to broaden their horizons...? Me personally, I like the crack pairings. So, I may be one of the rare few that probably won't read a Naruto/Hinata or Naruto/Sakura... or even a Naruto/Sasuke fic. Give me something like... Neji/Eno (although to be fair, I didn't like Eno either because she was just a bully for no reason)!

Songs that become plot bunnies.....
KoKoa_B replied to LadyTsunadeSenju's topic in Personal Rants & Journals
I think I have the opposite dilemma! I have all of these scenes and scenarios imagined and then, out the blue, a random song appears. The plunnies go bananas and match said scene(s) with song(s)! So instead of songfics, I get soundtracks! -
That's funny because I was wondering the same thing about a scene I'm about to write! I finally realized why it was taking me so long to write it (aside from the fact that it makes me blush so hard, I can't write it) and it was because of the fear of alienating the little readers that I have for the story! As nervous as it makes me feel, I still have plans on writing it the way I envisioned it. It would sadden me greatly if I was to lose a specific reader because she gets inspired to draw because of the story. But, I would have to just count my losses and move on. Like everyone has said on here: we write basically for ourselves, especially when it comes to fan fiction!

Oh my! I have a ton of lost stories that were all handwritten; my last fiance got a storage unit before we decided to move and he never paid on it. I lost not only every story that I had written/typed between the ages of twelve to twenty but all of my school memorabilia from kindergarten to senior year! Anyway; the one that I actually hate that I lost was one that had no title and no end in sight. It was typed (and man, I remember how I had to go to the only store in town that carried that specific ink every month for that typewriter) and I placed it in a purple binder. I've always been a sportsaholic and so this story was surrounding my favorite college team. Every now and then, I would think about that story and giggle about the little parts that I could remember! I hate that I lost it because it would be 99.99999% hilarious and awful right now but it would be proof of how old I was when I started to really get into writing... and how weird my little mind was back then! I also remember this one that I started writing when I was about nineteen about a figure skater who fell in love with her bodyguard. Someone told me that it reminded them too much of The Bodyguard (Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner flick... just in case you didn't know) which I had never seen, even to this day. I didn't want for people to think that I copied the movie and stopped writing it! Once I became a member on here, I had long since invested in the power of the flash drive and so whatever story I decide to delete from here, I will always have a copy of somewhere!

Hi guys, KoKoa B here! Back in 2012 or so, I posted a fan fiction for Oban Star Racers. I'm now finally getting to its first revision and will begin to post revised chapters! Unfortunately, it's technically not an actual Oban story; I guess you can look at it as being completely AU/AR: the only thing it has in common with the anime is the topic of intergalactic racing! So, there's no Molly or Prince Aikka; sorry! Anywho; the story is being edited with changes to a few of the characters' names (this is actually for the ones who took the time to read it before today; not too many but I'm hoping to change that)! I appreciate any and all reviews and comments and I will also reply ASAP! http://anime.adult-fanfiction.org/story.php?no=600053068

I guess I did jump into that article head first and spent painful hours combing through one of my stories using that list! When I reread it, I saw that much of my own voice was gone. Grant it, my voice sounds like a twelve year old basic fangirl's voice but it was gone nonetheless! It's a good thing I have the original and first revision saved on the hard drive; I used a bit of my common sense and opened a new file to do these "revisions"! I'll go over that list again and not force myself to abide by it in its entirety! Or... just stop having panic attacks and find a beta! Either way; thank you for giving me your opinions!
-
I somewhat figured that. I knew that the article was more geared towards professional writing, especially when I was going over some of the phrases, thinking "if I take that out then the story wouldn't be my own". There were a few things that I felt the author was being a bit too picky on, even for technical writing!
-
I've been M.I.A. for a while... and we'll just leave it at that! A lot has been on my mind and one of those things has been editing/revising stories. I've been a chicken wuss as far as asking for help but someone was nice enough to leave me a concrit on another site that prompted me to further research the "how to's" of writing. Anyway; I came across this article that actually pertains to blogging but I figured that it could be applied to story writing as well. The author lists 297 words/phrases that can be either omitted altogether or revised in order to make your writing stand out. Was just wondering how many of you agree with this list and if there are any other flabby words/phrases that he left out in your opinion. http://boostblogtraffic.com/weak-writing/ I applied this to one of my stories and it cut a little over 700 words in a 15000 word story. There's about seven phrases that I have yet to comb through because they were frequent in the document. A lot of the sentences made more sense once I did this edit but there were a couple of phrases that I couldn't see cutting out or revising, particularly in dialogue. What do you think? Do you think that this author is mostly being a nit-picker or is he pretty dead on?

I participated for the first time last year. Didn't get the goal but I was happy to get a story out of my mind and finally in a document. I'll call that a small victory! I debated not to participate this year because, well, November is such a hectic month for me! But, everywhere I went, everyone was talking about it. It trapped me; I'm doing it again this year! More people in my actual region are serious about write-ins; I'm hoping that those would help out! The closest write-ins last year were more than an hour away...

Asher; thank you for the review! I've never been asked to do a prompt personally so I'm very humbled! It is something that I would have to think about, especially seeing that I have other stories that are in need of updating. I will attempt to work on that prompt but I won't/can't put a specific deadline or time frame on it. I do hope that you check back on here for any updates; if not I can email you. Any more specifics into the story you'd like or do you want me to just go by the Batman/Batgirl prompt?
-
I decided to take a look at some of your work and Candy Hearts was the one that stood out to me the most! I was JUST about to ask was this some sort of parody from the school names alone but decided to see if you had answered that here. You did; lol! I'll definitely have to save this so I'm able to read more whenever I have the extra time. I know that this was set up for questions but I just wanted to give you a comment; I don't have any questions as of right now!

Welcome! This is where you can ask any questions you have for any of my DC 'Verse-related stories I've posted as well as see any review replies from myself. Stories included: DC Shorts Forbidden Desire Speed of Lyght (Part 1 of the Lyght series) Beckoning Lyght (Part 2 of the Lyght series) The Scarlet Tree Infinite Lyght (Part 3 of the Lyght series) So, post and ask away and I'll try to answer/reply as quickly as possible! Thank you for reading anything that I've posted; your views are greatly appreciated! I don't think I should reply to those who've reviewed over a year ago on here; I'm pretty sure that I've already replied to you guys via PM!

This makes me wonder; does it have to be a review you received from here? I received one from another site that I post on which... I didn't know how to take it, really; LOL! I know that I'm not the greatest of writers but a part of me wanted to be really discouraged from the review only because it was revised from the original. They said: "This style of writing sounds very young, like the stream of consciousness of a young girl. But she mentions a husband so I'm guessing she must be at least 20. Did you write this when you were younger?" That wasn't the style of writing I was going for, to be honest so that tells me that I may or may not need to "write more maturely" with this Pokemon fic. Then again, I had no plans for the story to be a dark or erotic one so the other part of me took this as a slight compliment; it's Pokemon for crying out loud! It also made me wonder: I have other stories that the reviewer could have sampled that, in my opinion, sounded older; why did he choose the one that would've been more likely geared towards the younger crowd...? *shrugs* Like I said, it was a revision that was posted; what type of review would they have left if I would've said "screw it" and posted the original? XD So, yeah; it was pretty interesting to say the least!

Yay; I've moved on to a more... adult story... finally... XD! As always, thank you beforehand for taking the time out of your busy schedule to check this story out.
